👉To promote autonomy. A low shelf brings your child’s playthings to their level, inviting freedom of choice. When your little one can select their own activities, they internalize that their ideas are valued and that they’re capable of leading their own discoveries.
👉To maintain order. A Montessori space is uncluttered and orderly to support the development of your child’s concentration skills. If the room or shelf becomes cluttered, your child may get bored or frustrated with their surroundings.
👉To encourage purposeful play. The shelf is an anchor in an environment where the activities offered on it grow with your child. Intentionally preparing, maintaining, and rotating the shelf’s presentation of playthings and activities, sparks your little one’s interest in purposeful play.
