  • How can we recreate the Lovevery The Helper Playkit for HALF of the cost? By making it MORE Montessori aligned with comparable dupes! The Helper playkit for 25-27 months can be tailored to your child's unique interests by using what you have at home. As with the Companion Playkit, we must be critical of whether the $120 price tag makes sense for our unique Montessori home. The Helper playkit feels much like a filler playkit from Lovevery, with beautiful items that may surely interest our child, but will not necessarily provide all of the engagement and exploration that toddlers are looking for at this age. We can easily swap some items for what we have at home, and instead focus on providing our children with activities tailored to their unique interests. Follow your child!
We're returning to the "Make your own Montessori inspired play kits" series and taking a look at Lovevery's 'The Helper' Play Kit for 25-27 Months. We find activities would have been great to have several play kits ago and definitely several that we can recreate at home for next to no cost. Our Lovevery dupe Montessori-inspired play kit allows your child to work the exact same skills, while reserving a budget for additional items that can support their growing interest in gross motor skills, pretend play, and language explosion!
As always, whether you choose to subscribe to Lovevery, another play kit service, buy these on your own, or DIY-do what works best for your family! Please remember that whatever you choose for your family is absolutely fine as well :)

I have to say I am actually really glad that we got this kit. The Muffin book is one of their best and we read it nearly daily (plus it finally had our toddler start being interested in joining in the kitchen). The connect 4 type catcher is a huge hit - every kid that ever visited us, immediately is drawn to it. Even after over a year, our daughter is still playing daily with it - plus it really helped her to start color sorting. Our toddler really likes the flowers but they were an absolute hit with our baby - it's her favorite teether 😆 that's all we kept.
The sink regularly resells for over $70. I got really lucky though, there weren't any others available the week where I sold it and so I was able to sell it unopened for over $90. Our daughter has been having access to the sink since 18 months old and when she shows unusual high interest in water play, a box with water on the balcony is more than enough. So I was sure from the beginning that the sink would just lie around, rarely used. I also sold the puzzle for over $30 - so we essentially had the toys we kept for free 😉
Anyway, thank you for explaining why the puzzle wasn't working for our daughter - I'll look into that Melissa and Doug beginner pattern set.
Oh and the paint is not "not messy" for us, since whenever our daughter has anything with paint, she will paint all over herself on purpose 😆 so when we paint, we go all the way messy and if I don't want the mess, it's chalk, Crayons, pencils, etc. But yeah - definitely not an on the go activity in my eyes either. And I didn't count the paper but it was really little - our daughter asked for more paper after less than 15 minutes the day I introduced her to the kit. Plus, it's really small for a toddler to draw on (she is used to me putting paper from a paper roll all over the kitchen table for art). We prefer one of these LCD doodle for on the go (she always chooses that over the no mess over those wonder markers or water wow).

This kit was the biggest hit so far. The puzzle was the first puzzle our son liked which is weird because he Hated puzzles before and it really just made it click for all the other puzzles we have. But yeah I was considering canceling love every but then forgot and am really happy because he absolutely Adored this kit. He has access to the kitchen sink but really really enjoys this one and calls it “his sink”.

Oh yeah I do think the routine cards aren’t great for us. We don’t have a place to display them and we already had routines in place with rhymes and songs.

Always love hearing your experience with the kits! Hey, even for $30, I'd say the items you kept were totally worth it then 😅 I've always found the resell value of their items...interesting. It makes sense on the items that are more unique to them and not easily replicated but I must admit, I'm surprised by the sink resell value!
Their books are generally great! I think the only book I'm not a huge fan of is, unfortunately, the only one I ever got from them. I do wish they offered the option to purchase JUST the books. I'd be interested in exploring that.
I thought the papers must be small, bit I didn't think quite that small 🤣 Funny you mention chalk as a less messy alternative-Stella finds ways to make that, hands down, THE messiness activity we have! I haven't explored the LCD doodle, that's a good idea to check for any upcoming trips actually. The pre-made water wow images are also not a hit here but the wonder markers are still working well for us!

Thank you for sharing! How interesting between both of you, the two different experiences with the puzzle! 🥰 I've found that sometimes a more complex item triggers an interest, but then we sometimes go back to an "easier" version to master a skill before we can master that item of interest.
Stella has been having the same reaction with all her little set ups as your son! This table is Stella's, NOT mom's. And this chair is Stella's. And this step stool. And potty. And kitchen. All Stella's. Absolutely not mom's. But sometimes dad's 😶

@@MariaandMontessori I thought the same thing. Especially since our daughter was also for the longest time uninterested in puzzles. For her the puzzle that "did it" was the Melissa and Doug chunky farm puzzle - since that one she has been really into it.
Same here 😆 always "hey, that's [my daughter's name]" 😆 and daddy 😆 I could write a book with all the things he is allowed to do with her and I'm not 😆

Agreed about this playkit. I saw it coming up next and couldn’t justify most of the big items.
    - tempera paint kit: we have crayons, those Melissa and Doug water coloring pads, a magnetic drawing board, face paint, finger pint, etc. I don’t think my child lacks for coloring opportunities! It’s kind of redundant
    - play sink. We made our play kitchen’s sink into a functional sink, complete with a drain and a plug. That is way more engaging. Our pump is USB charged. Seriously who buys batteries these days 😂
    - felt flowers: I haven’t found anything on the market I like quite as much. And I know my child likes flowers (I’ve also heard many people say these flowers were a dud for them as their child didn’t care for flowers at all. And they’re kinda useless if you just don’t like flowers!) so I got it from the aftermarket
    - puzzle: I also like this one a lot so we got it used
    - routine cards: haven’t needed it. My child loves routines!
I do disagree a little about the savings of DIY, if you are not a crafty person to begin with (which I’m not. If you are, and own the tools, your calculations are probably different!). I tried to make vocab cards for my child a while back and spent several much time and money buying materials, going to different stores, cutting, laminating. It took hours and I didn’t find it fun, and I have a lot of other stuff to do. And the end result wasn’t nearly as nice. I spent $20 dollars on some Montessori vocab cards and it was way better. Beautifully printed, way more durable than what I could manage (my kid drooled all over the cards I printed out and they became discolored. I didn’t own a laminate so I tried to do it with packing tape. It was a disaster)
As time IS money, for the most part I don’t find DIY to be worth it for me. I easily spent $40 on materials alone. And the couple of hours I spent working on it while my child napped, if you assumed my hourly wages, would be nearly $200.

Sure! Everyone's "tolerance" of DIY vs financial investment will be very different! Routine cards are an incredibly personal thing (both whether you need them or not and the type of routine you're even trying to get down!). Out of all the other types of DIYs I've recommended for the playkits, printing out some pictures of the child doing specific tasks is probably the least involved but for that's also why I always include fully pre-made options. And that's why the kits exist to begin with, isn't it? There's scenarios where even watching a video like this and looking around for alternatives is not a financially sound decision either and that makes the time saving aspect of the kits worth it 🙂

Always love these videos! I have been seriously considering dropping our Lovevery subscription starting at two for exactly the reason you mentioned in the beginning. The timing of items just hasn't really lined up with my daughter's interests lately. They are either too early or worse, too late.
In Jane Nelsen's positive discipline class, she recommends exactly what you said - taking photos of our kids acting out the steps in their routine. It makes it more personal for them.
I definitely agree and wish they sold the books alone. Surprisingly though, the books have been hit or miss with my daughter.
All that to say, hope you keep doing this series!

Thank you! I was actually just thinking of posting a question in the community tab on whether there's still value in these! 😅 So it's helpful to hear that 🥰 We already have most everything in their next kit and I think..most of you do as well, but it will be interesting to see how the pricing compares.

Hi Maria & family - I hope you are all well.
I’ve just found your channel & I wanted to let you know what an amazing resource it.
Your perspective & suggestions regarding the LOVEvery playkits is really refreshing - I’ve watched all of the videos in the playlist twice! I hope you continue to add to the series, as I for one would welcome your thoughts on later kits. 😊

I thought the same. My son is 22 months, but I prepaid some kits and just contacted them to skip this one.

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I've been curious about their skipping option since the discount is contingent on prepayment. Do they simply refund you for that skipped kit or is it held as a credit? 🤔

Hi Maria, thank you so much for your videos, which have really helped guide me through our little girl’s life so far! Just wondered if you have a link for the number counting posting activity that you show on this video? The lid is blue and has the number written on it with the correct corresponding number of holes to post a peg into… thank you! I’ve checked your Amazon store and can’t find it there…

Hello! That is the tumble down counting pegs by TAG Toys (www.tagtoys.com/product/tumble-down-counting-pegs/) They're not on Amazon and I've hesitated to share it because of the price. It's a phenomenal material that, personally, I do find to be worth the investment, but it's definitely pricy. I have been continuously checking to see if anyone sells something similar, but they seem to be the only ones with that item. If you can find it for resale somewhere, I would very much recommend it!

That being said, there's a few "dupes" on Amazon these days that are small and the layout of the numbers isn't exactly "right" but the price is much more affordable. amzn.to/3U0m5xV
