Imagine if these big companies worked for the greater 3d printing community instead of walling themselves off with their patents and greed.

Some do, I see booth sides, there does need to be a "price doesnt matter" side of printing as thats what will push the bounds and create new process that in generally in the long run do trickle down as it becomes cheaper.
One thing with the j5 for sure the more i learn about it the more I kinda understand why they dont let anyone mess with any print settings. and where the filament is 1500 for 3.66kg we are able to print things for medical use no one else can.
And also these chemicals are actually very nasty and misuse and wrong disposal can cause serious health and environmental issues, so they really do need to be at places that can afford chemical waste pickup costs and constant ppe use ect. The cost of the machine and resins is not where the cost stops.
Like for instance if i got the machine and resin free just had to buy replacement parts and pay to dispose of waste I would not be able to afford to run it at home as a personal printer.

      You've obviously never created anything.

It's not walling themselves off with patents. That's how a lot of companies survive. The issue is a lot of these insanely expensive printers really don't offer a lot of benefits for the price and a lot of times quality is surprisingly bad, at least on fdm printers I've seen off 6 figure machines. Horrendously bad quality

Imagine if everyone just worked for free for the good of humanity instead of bettering themselves, like socialism. It only works until you run out of other people's money.

@@willofthemaker there’s a simple solution. Don’t buy it. If the product sucks and nobody buys it, the problem will go away. However, anyone that invents something has the right to be the exclusive seller of it.
