You nailed it. My husband and I were in South Korea in November. We had a private tour, so it was just us and a guide. We just happened to visit a small town having a festival and were encouraged to dress in hanbok. My husband ended up dressed as a general. We were the only non-Koreans there and people were extremely welcoming. We only ate at Korean restaurants where the guide ordered for us. We tried everything. On a boat trip around Jeju Island a Korean woman came up to us and asked for my camera, so she could take a picture of us. She did a great job. Two weeks after leaving South Korean my husband had a massive heart attack and died instantly. It was a traumatic event as I did CPR, trying to save him while the paramedics were on their way. While looking for a picture for the funeral service I came across the picture the woman had taken. It showed my husband as I will always remember him. @@linda.s.gisladTotally agree that respect should be given to anyone regardless of age. I'm also 67, well until September. I'm grateful for the internet that we have so much information at our fingertips. I'm Greek American living in Greece, though I've gotten used to the metric system, I'll say google helped especially at converting recipes. You can search anything...my phone had a problem and I found the answer online. I bought a bread maker here that had various languages but didn't have English, so I searched and found the English instruction manual. Going to the library was fun because I loved reading, but of course had limits.
Wise points to think over. They can also apply to other countries and other cultures! Just be respecting, caring and sweet to any nice people anywhere on this planet and you may make easier connections.
Dan, 안녕하세요. I wanted to say thank you for your time and effort in making these videos. I am traveling to Seoul for the first time this year with my bff, and your videos have been going a long way in helping me prepare and put my mind at ease. Through my friend, and favorite group, I have been learning alot about Korean people, culture, food, and beauty, and it's been incredible 🥰. So thank you once again, and I look forward to more content. Also congrats on over 100K subscribers!
congratulations on 100k. I feel as part of one's language learning, it's so important to learn about the culture. I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to knowledge and I like learning how things came about too. I hope that people become more respectful towards people and their culture. Let's all respect and support each other because at the end of the day we live on the same planet but live differently.
Hi Dan, thank you so much for the videos. You inspired me to visit Incheon a few weeks ago where some lovely things happened. I went to have lunch near Jayu Park and was enjoying a hangover soup in a restaurant. Halfway through my meal, an Ajumma, who I hadn't spoken to at all, decided to pay for my lunch! Now that I've seen your video (1st point) I think I know why she paid for my meal. The other nice thing was when I was looking at the Tri-bowl, another Ajumma who worked at the Tourist centre started chatting and she took me out for dinner too! Incheon is definitely a place to visit. Thank you for all the travel tips Dan 🙂
New subscriber here. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I've been in love with culture my entire life and I hope to save up and visit Korea and Japan in a few years and have been trying to find hands-on, trustworthy sources to learn not just the language, but the culture as well as while I think I've got a good grasp of the basics, I'm still woefully ignorant of a lot of the nuances. I appreciate the honesty you bring to your videos and the boundaries you place and I hope to use the knowledge I learn from you, and other generous creators to fully enjoy my, eventual, experience in Korea. It's been such a fun journey so far to learn all there is to learn and I very much look forward to more informational, and fun, videos from you. Your work and your dedication is appreciated.

Hi Dan, I trust this message finds you in good spirits. Congratulations on crossing 100,000 subscribers 🎉🎊 I wanted to take a moment to express my recent fascination with the captivating portrayal of Korean culture in Kdramas. Despite their fictional nature, these dramas consistently highlight values of decency and integrity, often in contrast to certain depictions in Western movies. The characters in Kdramas frequently embody admirable morals and principles, making the viewing experience truly enriching and inspiring for me. I dream of visiting Korea one day to fully immerse myself in its rich culture, witness its stunning beauty firsthand, and indulge in its delicious cuisine. Your videos are not only highly informative but also a source of joy for me, particularly with your eloquent English and remarkable accent. Keep up the fantastic work!😊
Danny, you are an amazing person. I've recently gotten hooked onto K-Dramas and Chinese dramas. I have many Korean friends here in California who've shared their favorite local dishes with me that I've grown to love. I'm Hawaiian, Chinese and Portuguese. Being from Hawai'i, I grew up eating all types of Kimchi and can't get enough of it. This segment is my first introduction to your channel. I believe that everyone should respect and honor people of all cultures, especially our elders. I've learned many basic words and phrases, and my friends enjoy me using them. Mahalo plenty for sharing your information with us.🌺🤙❤️
I only watch k dramas as well. My entire family thinks I'm so weird. I'm Irish and Cherokee Indian mostly. I love the fact that the families stay together and help each other. They certainly don't do that in the U.S.!
Really enjoyed this ! I love that Korean culture respect the Elders a lot, I believe this should be a must everywhere !! Thank you Dan for this video and 축하해요 for reaching 100,000 subscribers !🥳 J'aimerais t'entendre parler plus souvent en Français !! 😊
true, I recently see how youth hates the Elders because they had more opportunities then we, and I don't like this. Its not their fault how economy is now and they deserve some respect for working many years and raising us.
I am 67 and will probably never have the chance to go to Korea, but for the last five years or so I've been a big fan of K-Drama and would love to see all things Korean. I especially like the way most parts of an animal are used in Korean food, it's both sensible and respectful to the animal. I would love to try it but I'm a long way from a Korean restaurant. I love the courtesy and respect shown to each other. I think I appreciate it more because I'm an older Londoner, though London has never really been known for manners. ;¬) I'm gradually learning as much Korean through K-Drama and singing along to Korean music, as I can, and surprise my family sometimes with Korean words and sentences, and music playing in my car. It's a lot of fun and might even help keep my brain a little younger for a while. :¬) Dan I really like your videos and find them entertaining and helpful so I hope you will keep making them for a long long time. Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers, and I hope you get many more.
Please go to Korea or wherever your heart wants to go :) We only have one life, and doing things we like is imperative. As an encouragement, read "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho - maybe in Korean!

Thanks again, and hugs from France 🇫🇷 !
My wife and I are planning to go to Korea in Jan / 25. She is a massive Fan of K-dramas, and recognizes many of the actors already. So now it's my job to.learn as many Korean norms, culture and language to get there and not commit social faux pas. Gotta watch all your videos, mate!
This was a beautiful video! I have such affection for Korea and Koreans. All these little tips made me feel as though I was given permission to feel the way I do! During a time when love and admiration of another culture can be considered cultural appropriation and angrily looked down upon, it’s heartwarming to know that many Koreans understand and may even approve of foreigners who have great respect and adoration for their culture, and feel blessed to be able to take part in some of their traditions, foods and language. I think it’s another way of spreading the love!
Your videos are beneficial; thank you for taking the time to research and post them. I agree; taking the time to research and understand the culture and people does help, as well as learning simple words and phrases. Korea is such a beautiful country, and I'm thankful I was able to experience it firsthand six months ago. Everyone I met while I was there was kind and helpful. I felt safe everywhere I went especially since I took a solo trip. However, I will admit two weeks is definitely not long enough to visit, so my next planned trip will be longer. I look forward to when that happens. Also congrats on reaching 100K subscribers!
Yay🎉 i passed the test!👏🏾👏🏾 I went to Korea in March 2024 and did the majority of these you listed and i feel thats why i had a blast with the locals. Especially at the markets. They were my favorite! I can't wait to visit again!!!🫶🏾✌🏾🫰🏾💜🙆🏾♀️
Thank you for this video. I started taking Korean language classes about six months ago. I've got a long way to go before I can comfortably hold a back and forth conversation. But it's comforting to hear that most Koreans would appreciate the effort. I studied French in highschool and college. But when I took a trip to France about ten years ago, most Parisians refused to speak French back to me when they figured out I was American (when I was translating information to English for my traveling companion). I'm not fluent, but I know enough to get around as a tourist. And my reading comprehension is decent. People outside of the cities were a lot nicer and complimented me. Still, it kind of soured my experience after I had made so much effort to be a respectful tourist.
Hey, all good advice. Just to tell you: I love Korean food, tried to learn some words, like the old style dressing and music, like old people, and am neat. I'd probably get along fine again. I worked there a long time ago for a while, and it was a great experience. I know South Korea has changed a lot since I was there; but I wish all Koreans the Best. It's a beautiful country, with beautiful history/culture/people. I'm from the States, and it was the last place I ever expected to work; but I guess I was lucky. I've never forgotten it.
This reminds me when my Korean friends were super surprised and very impressed I choose 해파리 냉채 as my favourite dish and how I love spicy cold noodles 🤣 I got told I am more Korean than some of them, just for that haha I also got called cute everywhere I went and visited 🤣🤣 It was very funny. I had such a great time and I can't wait to go back to explore Korea more! You always have such great and useful tips Dan! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos and sharing them with us 🫶
Good to see you posting more. I was there in 2017 and was already in to Korean culture. I was there to see the historical places first. Those I spoketo where very impressed of my knowledge and being in awe of the historical places. It really s incredible being in places you see in historical dramas. Knowing its been around for hundreds of years. Love kpop but still cant get into the older music though!

1:40 To answer this question, I'm pretty sure it has to do with food being so scarce back then, thus today 잘 먹었어요? Is a way of asking someone's well being (usually amongst people you're familiar with already)
Finally an analysis that sounds like it is grounded in facts and in the recognition of complexity. Situations are never as simple to explain as many people make them. Nothing is simply black or white. I feel I now have a valuable understanding of what is going on in South Korea. I also learnt new terms and something new about the other cities in the world you mention for comparisons and clarifications. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Hi Danny. Thanks so much for this video. I am so glad I found you! You are adorable and clearly embody Korean principles. I love the things you shared and as you mentioned, many are true of other cultures as well. I have only met a few Korean people in person and I love that you are a “real” local Korean that I can learn from. 😄 I love watching Kdramas (that I discovered about 10 years ago) and I would like to visit there someday. Since you asked, I would love to hear everything about both Korean traditions and current living. Also everything about favorite foods. I am also really interested in family folk music and songs that little kids learn growing up from toddler through grade school. I know K-pop groups are becoming very popular also. I think all the things you mentioned I've pucked up frim watching a high number of K Dramas over last 5 years ir so. It was good to get confirmation though as you don't know what is accurate and what's not sometimes. For example I'm sure there's not a lot of throwing glasses of water on people, as often portrayed in K Dramas.i do love some of the older classics when it comes to music. Some trot, pansori and older pop such as Kang San-eh. Love Kim Bum-soo and Ailee. A lot of asians also have higher metabolisms so its less of an issue but it does pose a shitty social standard for those that are less fortunate and dont have high metabolisms.
My point was eating well does not mean eating a lot or overeating. It’s more like enjoying the food. You can search anything...my phone had a problem and I found the answer online. I bought a bread maker here that had various languages but didn't have English, so I searched and found the English instruction manual. Going to the library was fun because I loved reading, but of course had limits.
Thank you, Danny for a very good final message! Please, spread love and kindness, so badly needed in the fast growing industrialized world.
I laughed so loud when you said, "I don't know any Korean slang. Oh my gosh, I'm an ajussi." LOUD!
congratulations on 100k.
I love korea so much and especially traditional outfits and architecture! and i love Gugak music a lot as well💜 congratulations!
You deserve having all those subscribers Dan. Congratulations!
I only watch Korean TV Drama shows and I’m planning on visiting one day, I can’t wait to eat Tabbokki
Same!!! I can’t watch anything other than Korean shows on Netflix.
It taste good but is very spicy.
i think u mean tteokbokki, lol
Same! I haven’t watched anything in English in a year, which is when I discovered Korean dramas! They are the BEST!!! I am so fascinated with Koreans now and Korean culture.
Congratulation to your 100.000 and much more sucess to your fabolous channel, interesting videos, charming you! Yes, all items you say suits to me! I am totally in love with Korean culture, food and language. My professional K teacher lives in Seoul, we have class 3-4 times a week, he is a very good singer too. As an author I have 2 novels in progress, one takes place 2018 in Seoul, the other 1192 in Goryeo. I will come as soon as possible to sightseeing Korea. And visiting Zaneuk ... with my teacher. Hope one day we can meet us there! 감사합니다. 곧 봐요! 💝Love from Austria, Europe
Hi Dan,
I trust this message finds you in good spirits.
@@melodytownzen3914Koreans love white people
I've lived here in Korea for almost a decade now, and i think this video is sensationally accurate.
Excellent advice!
Well I do promote respecting people who should be respected, respecting everyone, without knowing who they are is a big red flag
true, I recently see how youth hates the Elders because they had more opportunities then we, and I don't like this. Its not their fault how economy is now and they deserve some respect for working many years and raising us.
6:56 you sounded REALLY British when you said "Little words" there haha! Respect from the UK 🇬🇧
I think I appreciate it more because I'm an older Londoner, though London has never really been known for manners. ;¬)
I'm gradually learning as much Korean through K-Drama and singing along to Korean music, as I can, and surprise my family sometimes with Korean words and sentences, and music playing in my car. It's a lot of fun and might even help keep my brain a little younger for a while. :¬)
Dan I really like your videos and find them entertaining and helpful so I hope you will keep making them for a long long time.
Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers, and I hope you get many more.
That's the perfect time to go! When I'm 67 I'm packing my bags and taking a long trip to S Korea and other South East Asian countries. 😅
I’m 69 but I still want to visit there.
Go for it…I’m from UK and will be 60 this year , a trip to South Korea is definitely on my bucket list.. I can’t wait😁
Please go to Korea or wherever your heart wants to go :) We only have one life, and doing things we like is imperative. As an encouragement, read "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho - maybe in Korean!
I will be 80 next spring and will be going to South Korea with my daughter. We are both into kdramas and BTS, I love the culture and am trying to learn some of the language. Maggie from England
축하해요!
Thank you for another enlightening video.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I'm adding this to my 'visit Korea' playlist.
Dan in a suit! In celebration of the 100,000 subscribers? In any case, congratulations. Glad your channel‘s thriving.
I thought he was going to a funeral!
yes in celebration ( but actually was wearing it for an event and filmed this when I had time)
Ohhh! I just discover your channel, Dan, and thank you very much for this soooo useful video! A Korean TH-camr in France taught me the clapping used to cheer up Korea 😃
I always stand for Korea and Korean culture… I even present conferences about the links between Pop Culture and K-Pop to promote Korean culture beyond What people know about K-Pop, cause Korean culture is amazing!
Awesome! I hope you and your wife k-fan couples teams!
They all like white skin
My first video from you, and I find it really informative 🙂 I like to learn about cultures in other countries 🙂

“Someone who takes good pictures”…I didn’t see that coming 🤣🤣🤣
I love korean food ! I love trying new things to eat and not to mention your culture is such a nice one!
😊thoroughly enjoyed the 10 questions.,
You have shared some great and helpful information . Thank you.
Very informative thank you really enjoyed it ❤
Hey, all good advice.
Thanks. I obviously have some studying to do before I travel to Korea this autumn.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos and sharing them with us 🫶
Congratulations on 102.000 subscribers!!🎉❤❤ your channel helps me with understanding Korean culture since I want to move there someday 🇰🇷😁
Well done video. Thank you for talking about people appreciating the cultural values of Korea.
Korean food is THE BEST, I don’t know how I ever lived without it and now I eat it all the time. Love your Brittish accent 🫶
Korean food is so tasty but I draw the line on chicken feet (Dakbal)and Kimchi!
@@kebbiew.8359 wait what ....no kimchi? 😨
Thanks so much for the info. I especially appreciate you asking people to be kind in the comments. That's very sweet. 🙏🏼
Thank you so much you’re so good at explanation.
Thank you for this post!
I love your tip for taking a full shot ❤
This is the easiest tip i ever heard 😊
Love this video. Thank you Dan. I think this can be applied to visiting all countries. ❤
Please make a part 2 of this video . I want to learn about the physical aspect of this subject. Controversial is fun 😊
I never knew about 'iced' amercano until I watched Korean tv shows!
Same! I noticed Korean TH-camrs drink and K-drama shows on Netflix often. I don’t know if americano is good. Americano exists in Starbucks in my home Arizona.
Congratulations on reaching 100,000 viewers!

Congratulations Danny on 100,000subscribers!! You are so great at what you do, and I, for one really look forward to your content! I think when I was in Korea, I tried to do a lot of the things you suggest. I did not learn any old songs or take great photos! However, many Korean locals would offer to take our pictures and that was great! And I’m in love with food! No problem there! A good topic!❤❤
Hope you make more about Korea🙌Love it🙏Thank you for all this information.
Congratulations and 100,000 subscribers I’m happy for you 🫶🏻 you rock 😉💕
You are a very good speaker young man. As a guy who would love to come to Korea for a long period someday, I really appreciate your videos. You have earned a new subscriber 😊
Congratulations on 100k Danny. So awesome.
What a fabulous video reallly loved it. Hello from London keep up the good work
Woot! Congratulations on the 100 thousand subscribers! I really liked this video too. More like this one please. Manners are important in any society. Even walking down the street, I'm sure, lol. Anyway, good job! Whatever you think of as you wander.
I am so happy I found your channel! I've subscribed. I am a huge fan of K-dramas, and have always been impressed with the culture, especially the respect that is shown. I am 72 and wished I had a better memory, so I could learn more of the language, while watching the shows. I do recognize many phrases when they are spoken though, which makes me happy. Thank you for having such a wonderful channel, especially for K-drama lovers like myself.
Hey Dan, congratulations on 100,000 subscribers 👏. Thanks for sharing. Love Korean food and culture. Hope to visit someday 😊
He has the calmest presentation & demeanor I've seen on You Tube lately
Danny, you're looking business-chic in that suit of yours. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🥈👈🏻 Congratulations, my dude. 🇺🇸🤝🇰🇷
Love old korean music. I also had a list acquired from watching all of these k-series and movies - list of primary characterized- dame as yours: good food, nice to elders...etc. I have grown to love your culture; music and handsome, pretty peple
I'm sorry I could never "eoljuka", I'm Italian and iced Americano it's not even an option for us 😔✋🏻
actually for us it's the opposite, we drink hot coffee even when you're burning outside ahahahah
yeah I'm Portuguese and stick to espressos☺ but looking forward to visiting SK
Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers. I remember when you first started out👏👏 Seems just like yesterday ❤❤
CONGRATS ON 100k!!!
1:40 To answer this question, I'm pretty sure it has to do with food being so scarce back then, thus today 잘 먹었어요? Is a way of asking someone's well being (usually amongst people you're familiar with already)
Congrats on 10k Great video
Finally an analysis that sounds like it is grounded in facts and in the recognition of complexity. Situations are never as simple to explain as many people make them. Nothing is simply black or white.
I feel I now have a valuable understanding of what is going on in South Korea. I also learnt new terms and something new about the other cities in the world you mention for comparisons and clarifications.
Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Happy to be part of the 102,000k since day 1. ❤
Just another great video from Dan. Can’t wait until I visit my favourite country (Korea) at the end of this month for the 4th time ! Thank you so much Dan for all your insights in to life in Korea.
Congratulations again on reaching 100,000 subscribers. Well deserved. Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed it. One of my favorite athlete is Son and I watch him play every week. Continue the great work.
Hi Danny. Thanks so much for this video. I am so glad I found you! You are adorable and clearly embody Korean principles. I love the things you shared and as you mentioned, many are true of other cultures as well. I have only met a few Korean people in person and I love that you are a “real” local Korean that I can learn from. 😄
I love watching Kdramas (that I discovered about 10 years ago) and I would like to visit there someday.
Since you asked, I would love to hear everything about both Korean traditions and current living. Also everything about favorite foods. I am also really interested in family folk music and songs that little kids learn growing up from toddler through grade school. I know K-pop groups are becoming very popular also. Take care and thanks again. I will subscribe right now and I look forward to seeing more of your videos! 👍
Thanks for the info end and I really enjoyed the video♥️
This is so interesting! I’m learning Korean right now, but I’m also REALLY keen to learn all about the culture, history and traditions and customs. Watching this video makes me feel like I’m already on this path of learning!
No.6 is very accurate. Want to get noticed by your favorite artists, particularly the male idols, at a concert/fanmeet? Wear a KFA jersey. It's worked every time.
I am going to South Korea next year for a few weeks then getting a cruise from Incheon and am looking forward to exploring all the cultural sights and wiuld love to dress in hanbok but wasn't sure how this was perceived, so I'm very happy to hear your views on this being okay. 감사합니다
It's a little ironic that Koreans like people who eat well but also likes people who are really skinny.
eating well is not really related to the physical appearance of someone. But I do agree the pressure to be ‘skinny’ is quite real here
A lot of asians also have higher metabolisms so its less of an issue but it does pose a shitty social standard for those that are less fortunate and dont have high metabolisms.
@@ThizisDanny It just doesn't make sense at all.
My point was eating well does not mean eating a lot or overeating. It’s more like enjoying the food. And the pressure of losing weight is more on ourselves? people won’t tell me to lose weight but I somehow want to. I think these days it’s a like different. People don’t like ‘skinny’ people but more ‘fit’ people..
@@ThizisDanny ""people won't tell you to lose weight"" i find that hard to believe, but okay. You know some things better than i do, so i'll just leave this at that
Thank u Dan!! great video and super advice. I am Portuguese so definitely relate to the food part😄
