    I'm going to go off of the hundreds of reviews from professional musicians, producers, and guitarists to say that yes... he IS that awesome. It's not his fan base that's hyping him up so much, it's other people in the industry that see his skill.

    Objectively Tim has exceptional clean efficient technique. There's no wasted movement. There are people who can play faster, but faster isn't better. There are people who play mind bending Jazz with compositions that are dizzying, Stanley Jordan comes to mind.
    What Tim is doing is taking guitar in a new direction and that is exciting. He is blending all the music he loves into his own sound. Tim might have started out as metal/prog, but he is far more than that today. I love seeing what he does with each song and how fresh it is. I know plenty of people who don't care for it and that's ok. When Vai was doing his thing in the 80's, a lot of people said similar thing about him too. There's plenty of room for all sorts of music and art.

      @@woolfel jazz and classical are not popular because they are boring to most. How can you argue about something being boring and then mention the 2 most boring genres of music? I can argue, metal bands used to always do an instrumental, they haven't in a while because even dude's that like very technical aspects in their music, still prefer vocals.
      Polyphia is a niche band. They are doing well because their music isn't prog metal like I see it being labeled. Their music is acceptable to play in restaurants, elevators, doctor's offices, and any general places in public. However, I don't see any follow up albums being as well received.
      And then, anyone can clearly see the media is behind them, and then, TH-cam is using the algorithms to push them as a metal band because the metal community is large. Well, they aren't a metal band and any metal guy, like myself, is at that point where we just want to criticize these guys like only we metal guys can...

    • @deductivereasoning4257
      @deductivereasoning4257 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jwlsiee some don't consider rap to be singing. And then, mankind was singing long before they were pounding on rocks, let alone, playing instruments. Vocals IS music, it IS the root of music, it IS why music without vocals doesn't appeal to most.
      This means, if your instrumentals are more popular than your songs with vocals, you aren't that good at song writing since vocals came 1st. I mean, leaving off vocals surely makes it easier to write the music they are playing. No vocals means they don't have to worry about when to noodle.
      How is the much easier way to make a song, a measure of good song writing? ANYONE that can play can write instrumentals, but you clearly need the media's support to push it if you want success...

      You dont actually listen to their music by saying that. Their latest album they collaberated with artist that play a brass trumpet, a music produce who plays on a keyboard and dj set, steve vai, ect, ect. Each of those people play in an entirely differnce music genre than polyphia. The audacity track look up the featured person and listen to their music. Nothing like polyphia music, but tim loves that guys music so he wants to make a blend of polyphia and that genre of music together. Same for steve vai in song ego death and the trumpet player in song genesis. You are basically wrong for saying they play the same thing over and over. No tim blends in what music genre of artists he likes and makes a collaboration track with them featured and its a mixed genre of prog/math rock with whatever genre that featured artist is.

    One thing to consider is improvisation, or lack thereof. The best musicians of all time are fantastic improvisers, and that’s one area where Tim and Scott are severely lacking. And of course, nobody could improvise something as complex as the things they play, but still. I recently watched a video of them jamming live with Steve Vai, and their playing was very underwhelming, in comparison to Steve who is a master improviser. Just something to consider.
