    Jason Momoa seems like a genuine and honest guy. He doesn’t act like he knows more than he actually does, and he doesn’t say a bunch of bullshit about what he did to train and prepare and how “training got him into the mind of his character.” He just said, “the trainer told me to do this so I did it.” Also, he may not be an avid weightlifter but he’s grew up skateboarding, surfing and rock climbing so he’s been active his entire life so he may not get into the gym, but dude has been an athlete his entire life.

      I've found they struggle with body weight and tend to get fat if they overeat and aren't active BUT unlike most other groups of people they put on just as much muscle as fat and if they're genetically lucky or moderately active they pack on muscle without getting fat.
      My guess is that evolutionarily the most athletic/muscular/biggest people from these societies were the ones having the most kids, food was relatively abundant and they had active lifestyles focused on short bursts of power and effort.
      Basically they became geared towards being big and packing on muscle easily.

      not to mention you have to have some serious strength to lug up that wall on certain holds AND flexibility. i started into climbing, got a taste. now i had to step back and work on some stuff in order to DO it. (a med made my weight jump up so it's effectively like starting a climb with an extra 40lb on not super strong upper body. get reckt.) bouldering specifically. anyway i like that you could take hard work in those two areas and have a place to apply it, and that you have challenges you work to defeating. it's like a practical use for the training and to me that is motivating. :)

    As a climber I thought him using kettle bell swings was interesting because in our training heavy kettle bell swings is considered one of the worst things you could do for climbing. Also, for climbing strong legs that are strong when fully stretched and explosive when in cramped situations. So I’m training pistol squats everyday I climb.

  • @Howitchewstofeel5gum
    @Howitchewstofeel5gum ปีที่แล้ว +18

    You touched on it briefly here, but I'd be really interested in a full video about kettlebells and the typical exercises like swings, get-ups, snatches, cleans etc., maybe in combination with or even specifically focused on Pavel Tsatsouline's advice

    • @1337skillzor

      yea, kettlebell swings are an awesome complementary workout for your "go" muscles. glutes, hamstrings, hip adductors, quads, lats, deltoids, core and even a little triceps, biceps, and forearm muscles. combined with high volume (4-5 sets of 25 reps or something like that) it's a great endurance exercise as well.

    12:15 This reminded me of something one of my buddies I used to do power lifting and spartan race like things with loved. We used to do this workout he called "7's", where the idea was to put 135 on the bar and then do 7 deadlifts, 7 bent over rows, 7 hang cleans, 7 front squats, 7 push press, 7 back squats, 7 behind the neck press. Where you'd do it as one complete set where you're not allowed to put down the bar until you complete all 7 lifts and then the goal was to do this a certain amount of times in 30 minutes, I think like 5 was the goal(maybe supposed to be 7 and we just weren't good enough, this was a while ago so I cant remember for sure). It was a killer, more of an endurance and resilience training workout than actual strength training, but it definitely got the heart moving and was a good "no this doesn't suck, THAT sucked" thing to look back on when we were really sucking during a competition.
