    • @DanKaschel
      @DanKaschel 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      I think you're misreading the situation. His first instrument was violin. His knowledge of classical theory is quite comprehensive. But he didn't learn to think in chords like a jazz or contemporary player would, he learned to think in notes and phrases (like a classical player would).

    • @stanislemovsky5590
      @stanislemovsky5590 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was looking for someone mentioning Tosin. He's the guy who made this style popular, even if in a more complicated, metal-influenced version. Tim basically toned it down to a sort of avantgarde pop. As he says himself: He's taking relatively simple, but unusual chord progressions and arpeggiating them in that style that, to me, clearly bears Tosin's handwriting. And I don't mean that negative at all, I'm always happy to see avantgarde styles influencing popular music, and it's unsurprising that Tosin would have an influence.

      I used to do that when I was touring a lot. I couldn't do it for every show, but on a 3-month run I might get 10 lessons. I totally ripped Randy off and it's the smartest thing I ever did. If you can afford it, it's 100% worth the money. People teach their philosophy, in a manner of speaking. You can tell how a person thinks about music from the way they play, and getting lessons from a lot of different people will expose you to not just a bunch of cool tricks but also a lot of different angles to approach music from. It's really cool to tap into those veins of thought in my own playing. Sometimes I want to play really singable melodic parts, sometimes I want to have fun with phrasing, sometimes I want to do geometry, and on and on. It gives you not only techniques to explore, but entire mindsets.
      tl;dr get lessons from a lot of different people if you have the ability to do so

      Sometimes I get the feeling that theory was a purpose cause to keep creativity at bay. Go back in history and all the greats either didn't know theory or read music. They simply played what sounded good. Victor Wooten scratched the surface in his book. I went back to watch many blues and flamenco players Robert Johnson Wes Montgomery.. Paco de Lucia Diego del Gastor et al...zero theory zero schooling. Sadly the money making machine took over and so many stuck on theory...it is helpful but just slows many greats down...imho.

    "Is this Fmaj9?" Tim: "I have no idea." I love this guy. He is just throwing himself out. Learned how to make it sound like what is inside no matter how they call it nor how they use to do it. This is the essence of great creativity and progress. There are two ways:
    1. One can be confronted with something bad and decides to dedicate his life for the solution to make it better
    2. One can just do and follow his instinct no matter how things are done to achieve a different goal which probably is better.
    It is that Tommy Emmanuel kinda thing where you accidentally or by circumstances found your obsession and decide to dedicate a life to it. Not wasting time in theory lessons and stuff like that but getting it done. It takes a huge talent both in the instrument and also in teaching yourself by critical self-criticism with constant work. I can not show more respect for the personal achievements and the relevance for our species than for these guys. If parents won't waste time to just keep their kids busy but would clearly aim for finding each individuals obsession and if education would more enable individuals to just do it the whole civilization would turn into a kinda nice environment for human beings. As soon as the current madness faded. So to say.

    Tim Henson is just a monster on any guitar… I’ve been playing 30 years… granted I’m a singer.. I play very well… and sing better than I play guitar… but this kid makes me wanna practice more and more … he’s just amazing! Wow first time I heard him my jaw dropped! ❤

    Very funny. Tim is awesome. When I first started following the band. I expected someone arrogant but instead learned what great people they are. Funny and pretty down to earth when they talk to people. He doesn’t hold things as far as techniques like some secret. He is completely open about how they do their music. It just seems everything they do is about bringing their fans into their circle. I have a lot of respect and appreciation for them. I always walk away with the feeling that they love music. Yes it’s what they do and you would expect musicians to love music. But I would argue for some it sometimes just feels like a job for them. Polyphia just always makes me feel like they have just started a couple years ago with the level of passion and energy they put into what they do. To be this far along in their careers and still feel the way they do is amazing and interesting. They are the type of band that will continue to evolve I just hope it’s music I will enjoy as much as what they are doing right now.

    the reason this doesnt get more views is because of the thumbnail.. just looks like fake clickbait. if it was actually a wide angle shot of you sitting in the room together it would be way bigger.

  • @leotritt9809

    Bro Tim used his ears and fretboard so much that he never cared for the chord names, he just went by sound. That's incredible. Polyphia's music is also a lot different. Tim didn't learn or listen to the old songs like other guitarists so his original music is a ton different from others.
