Ten years ago seeing her slide BMW's & Ferarri's around a track still gives me at 26 as much joy as it did as a teen. Then just recently I came across her electric series on Fifth gear and it was overwhelming happy nostalgia. To find out she has her own TH-cam is been AMAZING. 10/10 driver, 10/10 presenter. Great to see you presenting Vicki after all those Fifth Gear stories years ago - we in Australia also love our performance cars of which I’ve owned a Subaru WRX GC98 and XT Turbo Forester STI - Toyota have done a remarkable job and given us rocket with their typical reliability - Subaru have a legitimate competitor to measure against now and I’d be more than happy with the Yaris as my daily fun driver - John in SA

I like the idea of the front and rear LSD and a proper handbrake although the lsd is a bit of a pricey extra, the weight saving is good too, even with a respectable HP output and a light small car to start off with a 3 cyl engine will have to work hard to pull the car along. The only thing i dont like is what a lot of manufacturers seem to be doing & feeding the engine sound into the car, i like most of the options but that can get in the bin. It looks to be a great car, hopefully some people who buy them will look after them rather than thrash it & run out of talent on a public road.
You're the only reviewer of this car that I've seen who has made this car slide. If memory serves you were a pro (rally?) driver before you became a reviewer. There are a fair few stultifying reviews of this car (looking at you What Car), I like that you brought it alive with your genuine enthusiasm.

When in 1st set my eyes on this car .. immediately fell in love wt it. Looks and its technical bits. Placed a booking way back in nov 2020 even when toyota malaysia hadnt announced it was importing any. Finally they did. I was one of the early ones to get it. And it hasnt disappointed at all. Excellent production and execution. The whole team on this have obviously worked hard to deliver Vicki at her best, well done all. Now the car, oh yes this is an excellent pocket rocket 🚀 I think it’s def going to stand the test of time. Future classic written all over it. I love a triple too, my Yamaha XSR900 is a triple and with a decat straight through pipe sounds naughty. Great torque on a triple with a nice top end too. Out of interest what lump has the rally chaps get in their Yaris?
Thanks for the awesome review Vicky. This car is for petrol heads. It seems to have the right appeal. I love the way it distributes power through the wheels with the different modes.
This is where Subaru should have been going instead of making heavy weight cars (we know they can do it, the 2003 STi Spec C 17 inch was only 35kg heavier at 1350kg than a CP GR Yaris at 1315kg).. The GRY has a lot going for it, a fairly limited run, its engine has overcone some of the issues of Direct Injection (mainly carbon build up behind the valves), a decent, compact AWD system and a decent price (for example, a Golf GTi is pushing £40k and a Cupra 300 is £36k) and the 5 year warranty. What I don't like, sound being fed through the speakers, poor front visibility due to console and mirror positioning, the "modes", 3 settings rather than fully adaptive (considering who Toyota owns, they could have done better). Now, the biggest issue I see with the GRY is none of the above, but the hype its been given by those reviewers, the flocks of younger drivers with not much experience of different drivetrains, shown how the super handling and grip will stop you flying off the road in all weathers, its a bit of a myth. AWD will bite the unaware hard (several yt vids prove this already), and for an 8k deposit plus £300 a month, its going to tempt the (poor) rally drivers to believe they are better than they really are. This isn't Toyota's fault in the main, but the reviewers only talking about the positives. This is a great car for an experienced driver, but it could be an expensive mistake for a novice who has fallen for the AWD (and torque split) hype.
Will be even more limited numbers if these get written off. It is however quite hard to get it wrong in a GR, you've got to be doing something pretty stupid to end up in trouble

@@maxharris4208 , I’m in Australia. Of the 1500 or so sold here there are currently 63 available for sale with less than 1000km on the odo. Toyota did a special deal here and a lot were bought purely by flippers. They’re now finding that they weren’t the only ones with that idea, so they’re gonna have to either wait or lower their prices. Won’t be too hard to get one, and it’ll still be a good bit less than the current RRP.
@@stephenpeacock2627 do you own one then? In real world, road driving, it's just as much fun but also more comfortable, has HUD, sat Nav, parking sensors and a couple of other bits. Most people don't have the driving ability, skill or opportunity on the road to truly gain any real benefit from the Circuit pack - although many, mistakenly, think they do! 🤣
Good review by someone who can really drive and has driven many cars. I mostly dismiss these hot hatches out of hand as they are simply too complex to make a sane buy for the long run. But, this one is a Toyota, a real one, not a rebadged Subaru or BMW. Real Toyota’s, even the fast ones are well engineered and durable. This is how I like my cars to be but not how most cars are. I think it probably is worth 30k.

This video just serves as another reason (and there ARE many) that Toyota can and will (if it wants) build superb performance machines on its own, which makes one believe even more that the real reason the 5th gen Supra was co-opped with München, was its need for hybrid tech... and look at the X5 hybrids sell. Anyway. Many interesting facts not heard in all the zillions of videos on this car. Well done, keep up the work!

Toyota..in their global wisdom...have focused the release on the Circuit Pack model, to the uk where the petrol car will be banned from sales in 2030. And have AVOIDED all the car markets in the world where this car would sell like proverbial HOT CAKES!!!!
@@Mexxx65 - Toyota haven't, UK get option of normal, convenience pack or circuit pack. Some potential buyers in UK are put off that they can't have both convenience & circuit packs on same car. Most UK buyers opt for the circuit pack as Toyota have some excellent finance offers.

Reminds me of the South African Toyota Conquest RSi from the 90`s, a little hatch that punched way above its weight!

Hope you ordered it last year...I ordered mine in January and hope to take delivery in January 2022. The wait is frustrating but will be worth it.

@@Mexxx65 I think more of having it go thru safety and what not. Government regulations still hurt some models when you attempt to sell them in NA.
