    Hey Thomas, that’s looks a lot of fun. I’ve never seen you grin so much driving a car! Would be perfect for UK roads: small, light, agile, comfortable yet sporty, fast enough to be able to use it, plenty of grip for our rainy climate! The price is less than I was expecting for such a specialised car, albeit it’s small. I think demand from enthusiasts will be high. Kudos for Toyota for building such a car. Your explanation on the Torsen (not "Torsion" 😉) differentials was quite a bit off.
    A Torsen differential can not do torque vectoring, for that you would need a laterally mounted, electronically controlled multi plate clutch and acceleration/deceleration gearing (see Mitsubishi (S-)AYC or Honda ATTS/ Honda SH-AWD).
    Only thing a Torsen differential can do is "limit slip" of one wheel. That means, if one wheel is slipping, a portion of the torque that goes to the slipping wheel can still be transferred to the non-slipping wheel. An open differential would send all off the torque to the slipping wheel instead.
    This also means, if one wheel can transmit no torque (e.g. if it is lifted or on ice), the other wheel can not transmit any torque either, even with a Torsen differential!

I have a Mini JCW with the optional Pro exhaust and it sounds absolutely Mental, the pops are crazy it's so much fun, this is what the GR Yaris needs.Really does put a smile on your face when you engage it using the Bluetooth button. Anyone who has the Pro exhaust system will tell you the same,it's a must. When it is engaged,a solonoid valve opened allowing gases to flow straight out.

    Hmmm, I was sceptical at the beginning but more and more convinced while watching. Also I think there is some after-market tuning potential on motor power, weight (e.g. seats -> carnon, rims -> forged instead of cast aluminum or even carbon or magnesium, exhaust -> titanium or inconel, prop shaft ->carbon, battery -> replace standard lead batteries by LiFePO4, maybe not everyday use) and tires (in terms of grip etc.).
    I am seriously considering this as my "rational" = (affordable, usable) 2nd car......

    The only Yaris worth buying and great to see a manual gear box and normal hand brake.

    This is going to be a €58,000 car in Ireland. If it was priced fairly here I would consider buying one, but our stupid taxes have put it so far out of reach...

    It’s $55,000 here in nz only $1000 less than the golf gti but with half the usability. I don’t see it selling well here when the polo gti is $15000 cheaper for the same kind of specs and 5 doors .

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Polo does not have the same kind of specs in any way, in terms of the diffs, fanatical weight-saving, huge brakes, forged wheels of the Yaris etc! :)

    I think this is the best example of a German approach to life. I love this channel. But I’ve just watched guys drive the same car in silence on the limit on track. Thomas mentions stability, speeding tickets and seat support.

    If I had one I'd definitely be fitting an aftermarket exhaust system this one really doesn't sound great also the back seats would be gone and a proper rally spec rolecage fitted

    Is it just me who thinks that the new Yaris is actually a facelift of the Toyota Aygo and not of the Yaris? Love the car though.
    Toyota very good job as always.

    Great review, Thomas. This is my dream car from now on. I already have Toyota Auris I 130HP and it has quite good performance but this car is just crazy. The only thing I'd do in this car is to wrap it in matte blue. It would be a killer.

    Excellent review. I am so sad that Toyota decided not to offer the GR Yaris in North America. I would definitely buy one in a heartbeat. We might get a Corolla derivative with the same drivetrain, but sadly a higher weight.

    this video really highlights the importance of the performance pack especially the LSDs. in Aus, the standard model is $45k ($5k discount for the first 100 cars sold), performance will be $55k. trying to decide if extra $10k is worth the performance pack.

    • @nigel.w
      @nigel.w 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO, performance/track pack is essential, even if you will never take it to the track or drive it on dirt roads. GR Yaris without it is not really a proper GR anything and will depreciate much more and be much more difficult to sell on later.

    This car may become a iconic years from now. Similar to the mini did years ago. Using the hand brake turn or eturn is much fun. Hey Thomas, learn how to achieve the perfect Scandinavian flick in this car would be awesome watch on a tight bend.

    You forgot to mention that the rear end comes with independent suspension as opposed to a single torsion beam of the regular Yaris, very important for the handling of the car.
