It's not a wrap, it's been resprayed in their paint shop.

You know it's a fair review when Alex has to admit he's not even sure if he'd go for springs or not. Only adds to my appreciation of Carfection.
He Kept referring to springs, but I thought it had a 2 way Nitron set up

The stance looks so much better and I love what they have done with the colour. So glad it is not yellow.
They did build it. They made a Yaris GRMN for Japan, but in ‘22.
Very sophisticated and nuanced take… better than most. When I get mine, in Australia, I’ll be getting a 255kW, 470Nm, induction, exhaust, chip combination… then deciding what to do with suspension. I suspect there’ll be serious coilovers, but I want to retain wheel travel, hence ability over rough, even dirt, roads, because this is Australia!
It’s not sophisticated. It’s a crude tuning piggy back box bolted onto a new engine. The ramifications for reliability down the road are complete unknowns, regardless of what Ian Litchfiled says. He has merely bought a third party box in.

Like the A110, the base model is less capable, but better 😊
Bear in mind that Akio Toyoda literally said the car was for us to complete. The original suspension was not what he envisioned as ideal, but what he thought was suitable for the starting point. Thus, in no way has Litchfield detracted from the path by making these changes but rather - they are on the intended one :)
Also the original suspension was limited by budget. That's the big thing worth mention

Lichfield were an importers who did some impressive work modifying Subarus, GTRs came later. Dunno why I'm commenting that but there you go.
The standard GR Yaris is fantastic on tight, rough UK B-Roads, the supple suspension and travel soak up the bumps brilliantly. The Litchfield car looks to be more of a tarmac-spec rally car, so still a rally car. :) It's great to have these options available.
I have a Circuit Pack GR Yaris with KW V3 Coil Overs and can attest to this. It definitely soaked up those bumps better before!! But it looks so much better now and feels a tad more planted on well maintained roads. The stock suspension is superb and I'd not change it if it weren't for the looks. And if you live in a country with bad roads I'd never do it anyway.
@@sveeny My GR isn't turning up till next year! I seriously like the stance of the lowered suspension. 40mm is a huge amount and did I mention I loved the stance, but yeah bumpy english roads. But I hear the Litchfield version is pretty good mannered on our crappy roads. So Im really torn. Lichfield also now do a proper remap and not a chip, so i will definitely do that, despite loosing the warranty (two year with Litchfield in not the same as 10 from Toyota). But it's a weekend car, so I think I can go with the lowering too.
@@invisiblekid99 Awesome! I just suggest you try to test drive one on those british roads first. Mine is absolutely crashy even on well maintained Swiss roads... Hope your GR will be delivered soon!

@@sephiros9883 Well, technically you guys in the NA market will get the GR Corolla which gonna have the same engine & drivetrain with the engine producing a bit more power to accomodate the Corolla's bigger heavier body

I am so pissed this won't come to the US. I want to pick up a more practical daily and this is the perfect thing. Very small, unique exhaust note, AWD, hatchback, and a stick.
Stand out review for me - and there's been so many GR Yaris reviews, Alex seems to always manage to bring sonething different. Reckon I'd go for the full litchfield treatment though

A bit of lean is fun. But agreed the power mod is needed, like the GT-86.
Litchfield and Syvecs are working on a centre diff controller….full control over how much power is sent to the rear. That’ll change how this little car rotates around a bend on the throttle. Clever stuff!
This can already be achieved by a motec ecu kit
@@marcusbrady5011 it’s only as good as the Calibration. I wouldn’t know where to take my motec ecu to be setup for a GR to be honest. At least with Litchfield they can do everything in house if you want.
@@adamkelsall3942 watch motive DVD's video about the motec kit, the guy goes into detail about how the gr systems work and what they've able to program for performance changes.

Yeah but we wanna see that masterpiece of an engine in a tight package like this, not just a big 4-seater that is about 600kg heavier than a GR Yaris

Great review... I'm thinking I'd go for the power upgrades and lowered seats and leave the suspension.
However, I'm wondering if the lowered seating position also takes a bit of that rally wobble feel away?

Do Litchfield still have their own M2? I’d love to see a proper review of their Nitron suspension on an M2 competition.
I'm wondering how well it will go on over bumpier poor condition roads. I'd love to see a timed race on a bad bumpy surface between a Litchfield suspension modded only GRY and a stock circuit pac one.
Nitron equipped GRY gives far more confidence (having driven it and I own a stock one)

Biggest issue for me is how terrible it sounds outside, I wish they altered that as well.

Great review! Interesting thoughts on the suspension. Only had a 30 mins test drive but if there's anything to improve, perhaps slightly 'cleverer' damping? Will leave that alone for a while. The green I'm going to shamelessly copy (with a simple wrap though).

I think the BMW i8 is the most powerful production three cylinder car in the world although it is of course a hybrid and also now out of production. Great review as always.

Funny that, I came from a Nissan R34 gt4 I sold a few years ago and regreting selling it and wanted a car that gav me the same joy. I bought a gr Yaris Rallye
Who cares about playfulness, i want my car to be as capable as possible, to be able to go through corners as fast as possible. That is why Litchfield Yaris GR is much better than stock one. Even though that does not satisfy me, i wish that hot hatches were made as capable as track focused supercars.

The question I ask in these situations is, "if the tuners version was the original and vice versa, which would I prefer?. This looks like am example where Litchfield's is more of a sorted road car, where as the original seems more bespoke. Having not driven either my option of course is completely invalid :)
I have one and as it is its fun and rolls a little, I have always wanted a rally car, not a track car, Litchfield has made a car that Toyota have in development now, you may see it tracking round the Nordschleife this WE

And manufacturers don't release sensitive data about the engine!

@@JasonV8S550 thanks. I get it that it’s just a tune but having local support is invaluable. I had a tune on a BMW a few years back and it bricked on initial installation. Took some support from the tuners to get it resolved. I’m glad it was installed by a local tuning shop and not me!

They’ll be saying nothing because the GR Yaris has already been launched and reviewed. It’s not Toyota’s fault that Sweden is slow
I know it's in a slightly different price bracket, but the Koenigsegg Gemera has their 600 hp, 440 lb 3-cylinder 2l TFG engine, so maybe Sweden is not slow...
