I am making Firestorm Damascus! This long process took me two days to accomplish. The most labor-intensive part is twisting the damascus pattern. Doing a tight twist like this can be complicated, and a lot of things can go wrong. If you twist too much, the whole billet could split in two. I made this Firestorm Damascus Billet for @NFTI so he could make a finished knife, so check out this video if you’re interested in seeing that process. • The Coolest Knife Blad...

Gorgeous pattern. Also, the cinematography for this video was a little different than in the past and I'm really digging it. The up close views and slow pans really help tell a compelling story with how the steel comes together to form the final piece of metal. As always, well done everyone!

Every step you take, is "necessary". _If_ you want to continue producing this level of work.
Don't downplay the extra attention to detail, that easily sets you apart from the masses.
And your ability to showcase your work is as phenomenal as your blade smithing.

I love that you squared yours off and ground it to an almost finished surface by before continuing with the build.

Hey Bryan our one off custom knives each have a particular geometry at the blade edge for a particular purpose. We optimize this aspect of our knives. Dad’s chef knife geometry is different for each style and intent of use. We currently use exclusively use carbon steel. We have several high end production kitchen knives in our test kitchen and dad’s outperform them all. Not all knives are the same. Heat treat also comes into play.

Ur stuff just popped in my feed. Started with EXCELSIOR. Gorgeous build especially the bluing. So rich black. Idea. May be pointless but it'd be a cheap experiment and may yield something neat. A bunch of ur Damascus cutoffs welded together for random patterns. Completely unpredictable but maybe something neat would happen idk. I've never made Damascus, don't have that skill/tool set, but I've always been into knives and firearms and have scratch built a few of ea h, and the journey is half the fun. Great work.

Really, the difference between a £30 knife and a £300 knife is the time spent by all the people involved, not just on this particular blade, but the time spent mastering their trade.

Gona be a sweet pattern. If your gona do more twist patterns just make yourself a hand crank lathe, then just weld a sacrificial piece on each end and put it in the lathe and hand crank it till you get the desired effect. Waaaaay easier than trying to do it that way and trying to keep it straight and even.
