Kyle, I too am a knife maker in Australia. I haven't even been able to get out of my house into the shed because of major Depression for 2 years But I just wanted you to know that watching has really inspired me! And now I have my motivation back and am making knives again and am better mentally. All Thanks to you. Please keep up the great videos you're a pleasure to watch the best on TH-cam...Cheers!
To not get shocked, ground yourself and the machine to the same source. Search "anti-static bracelet". Electricians use these to not cause discharge when working on electronics so as to not damage the electronics. Same principle here. Keep yourself at the same electric potential as the tool. Take the lead from the anti-static bracelet and connect it directly to the grinder/buffer's ground. You'll get build-up charge on the wire wheel just like a brush motor, probably same with the cotton wheel on dry days. You'll can make a slipping lead on the axle and tie it to ground as well. This will keep everything at the same electric potential and you won't get the random static discharges. Hope that helps!
That would have been my answer, except there's no way I'd recommend a wrist leash anywhere near the spinning buffer. Buffers are one of the most dangerous machines in a knife shop without an extra dangly to get caught in the wheel. Would that bracelet work the same if attached to your ankle instead?
47 years old and I just learned what a "~ tilde" is called. Thank you Sir for everything you have taught me, in, and out of, my shop. Really cool video my man
I laughed way to hard towards the end when you went through the blades one by one lmao. Thats a ton of work bud. Amazing work as always tho. That one blue wood is my favorite too. Just gorgeous, but i like them all to be honest. Maybe one of these days I can hopefully own one of these beautiful work of art's. You definitely perfected your craft. Bravo bud
You guys should do an entire video on how to shape a handle like these! It’s not as easy as it looks, and to get that facet to come out, so nice takes lots of skill! I think a lot of knife makers focus on the metal and the blade work and don’t put as much attention into their handle shaping. I am absolutely stunned at the way these look. Great job Kyle!
I waited 18 minutes and 9 seconds for your coffee break. Was worried it wouldn't be filmed! Love the content. You inspire me to get back in my shop and keep trying to make improvements on my work.
Kyle I would have to say the white ivory look is always my favorite contrast with darker blades. Hope you are doing well my friend and am enjoying your videos while I patiently await getting my shop back up and running. Take care buddy and keep up the fantastic videos and work! Sincerely, Evan M.
My favourite is the resin ivory handle because it reminds me of a knife my grandfather bought for me which was sadly stolen in a burglary, it certainly wasn’t as beautiful as your knife but to a 10 year old me it was the greatest ever made. Thank you for reviving a great memory 🖐🏻😊🤚🏻
Hey Kyle, there are anti-static shoes you can buy, as well as anti-static mats. I used to work for an electronic repair shop and that's what we used to get rid of static. The mats are grounded to the equipment you are using, then the shoes ground you to the mat. It also insulates you from the rest of the shop and Earth ground, so you're less likely to be shocked by faulty wiring. Plus you can get steel/crush resistant toed anti-static shoes. Pretty handy.
Isnt there a kinda like gel coating you can cover the floor with, like a paint or poly? I worked in an automotive shop that was previously a computer repair shop or something and the entire concrete floor was covered in it. Couldnt really tell until like brake cleaner got on it and it started to bubble/gel.
That blue handle strikes me the most and I can't believe that's wood?!? Awesome skills and knowledge you have, artisan at its best! Greetings from the Philippines.
Hi Kyle the quality of your works is stunning !!! I’m from France and i’d looooooove to get the blue one !! It looks like a Van Gogh art « nuit étoilée » thank you for the sympathy you bring on your videos Your Damascus forging is amazing
Radio stations use grounding mats on the floor that gets rid of static electricity so it doesn't shirt the computer equipment. So they definitely have a mat to get rid of ur static problem
Take some copper wire and find a good bare metal spot on your buffer that you can hook it to and run it to a ground or outside and stick the end of the wire in the ground and that'll stop it. I've had to do the same thing to mine as well as my 1x30" grinder. Those blades are amazingly awesome and beautiful! Always a pleasure watching you make them. May the forge be with you!! 😊
Kyle - another fantastic video. Yours is the best knife making site on YT. My favorite is the blue, followed by the purple. I'm not a fan of any carbon fiber. THANK YOU.
As a fellow craftsman of a different discipline, watching you create these masterpieces each ith the sme amount of love and care is just extraordinary. I hope I can put that amount of meticulous effort into my projects someday. My favorite is the blue, hands down.
I just saw an ad in the middle of ur vid and it was a drill bit that can drill squares and rectangles. It has some weird fitting on the outside of a normal drill bit. I know you've always done 3 holes side by side the file to get the right angles on all your handles but this square bit could be a game changer. Look into it maybe
Beautiful knives once again! To avoid getting hit by static electricity when sharpening the handles, just use a grounding strap, like the one used when working on sensitive electronics! But a copper wire around the wrist and attached to the body of the grinder does the same Purpose! I'm already looking forward to the next video!
All 5 are beautiful but my favorite is the carbon fiber one at 24:46 close up. You mentioned they were weaves but it almost had the appearance of forged CF because of the swooping angles.
Beautiful work as always. projects come and go but the memories of working with your dad and making the hydraulic press last forever in your heart that NO ONE can ever appreciate as much as you both or take away!
Oh man, I have a hard time picking between the ivory and purple. The contrast on ivory is very cool... but that purple is alluring. Wonderful job as always Kyle!
The white handled one is my 2nd favorite and the one at 25:51 is my #1, I just love how the handle pops, it also works with the silvery to dark contrast on the blade, the pattern is gorgeous, the handle keeps your eyes going and you can look at it as much as you want but you'll always find something in the handle you hadn't noticed before. So absolutely amazing. All of them are.
Hi , my favourite handle is the rough weave version. Ultra cool the way the light plays over it , highlighting the deeper and lighter shades . I’ve become a fan of your videos for a while now , so Hi from New Zealand 🇳🇿 to you and your family. Alan
Sir you are my favorite smith on you tube and one of the most talented artists I’ve ever seen! Thank you for sharing as always and I love the white ivory handle ! Keep the superb craftsmanship !
I like all of them each has its own nice grain, but i think i like the ivory colored one , it seems to have the biggest contrast between the handle material and the darkness of the blade.
Beautiful knives, which is the nicest? They’re all so good it’s impossible to decide! Is that Mum in the background helping out? She must be a top Mum to take such an interest in what her boys are doing. Enjoyed the video. Regards from Down Under.
I love that Black ash burl with blue tint it's my favorite. Definitly will use some the day i start my forge, well probably not for the first year(s) because i won't be able to make that wood justice with my level when i start, but the day i feel good about my blades i really want to try it out, maybe find more yellow inclusions and get a stary night balance in it ! Hell if i can someday become a forge god like you i'd do a star patern/twist damascus for a full stary night theme knife, one can dream and you sure supply dream material for us ! Thank you.
i like when you brake down the cost of things like how many feet of steel and aprox the cost of the raw material. and the press berakdown. those are simple questions that alot of us have and just end up googling it
Hi Kyle, really appreciate your videos. There are also anti-static bracelets you can wear, they have a strap you can tie to your bench or directly to the ground of an outlet to dissipate static buildup

The course carbon fiber looks amazing
Blue for me.
White handle
To help with not getting shocked, run some copper tencel, or some sort of copper wire from your machines to the ground of your shop floor....
What was the blue wood called?
Kyle, I too am a knife maker in Australia. I haven't even been able to get out of my house into the shed because of major Depression for 2 years But I just wanted you to know that watching has really inspired me!

Good on yah ~Aussi, may the forge be with you...
I like the dark ones, but the blue one is my favorite, it looks like a Van Gogh canvas.

Rubber soled boots too.
Esd strap for computer building directly grounds you.

As an electrician with 40+ years of experience, I approve of this comment, and highly recommend using this method to prevent static discharge.
Not worth the risk of getting it wrapped up and pulling you in.
47 years old and I just learned what a "~ tilde" is called. Thank you Sir for everything you have taught me, in, and out of, my shop. Really cool video my man
It's okay, man. Not every language uses that character. :)
I laughed way to hard towards the end when you went through the blades one by one lmao. Thats a ton of work bud. Amazing work as always tho. That one blue wood is my favorite too. I love this forging channel, at least he says what, why and how he's doing it I really like that
That blue handle strikes me the most and I can't believe that's wood?!? Awesome skills and knowledge you have, artisan at its best! Greetings from the Philippines.
Hi Kyle the quality of your works is stunning !!!
I’m from France and i’d looooooove to get the blue one !! It looks like a Van Gogh art « nuit étoilée » thank you for the sympathy you bring on your videos
Your Damascus forging is amazing
What's up buddy ohhh yeah!.man!.I miss you so bro and my favorite one ivory blessings to you and everyone 👌 👍
Radio stations use grounding mats on the floor that gets rid of static electricity so it doesn't shirt the computer equipment. So they definitely have a mat to get rid of ur static problem
I prefer the blue handle. Nice to see you do "many" knives at a time, slightly simpler than your normal marathon builds. They are all beautiful 👍.
The production quality just keeps getting better and better. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos.
The resin ivory is nice. With so much going with the pattern of the Damascus, I like the more solid handle color. Truly, they’re all beautiful
Im first, hey I just began into knifemaking and I made 19 inch 5 pound kukri and I was sucsesful because of your tips, thank you!!
It's so cool how you got the damascus to read subscribe!
The blue handle looks like a painting by van Gogh.
Some day collectors will pay fortunes for your creations.
Amazing work, as usual! The resin ivory handle is by far my favorite.
Kyle - another fantastic video. Yours is the best knife making site on YT. My favorite is the blue, followed by the purple. I'm not a fan of any carbon fiber. THANK YOU.
this is the best blacksmith channel on YT, hands down. I do not understand why you aren't at 5 mil subs

The blue burl reminds me of Van gogh's stary night. Beautiful knives.
Say Hello to your dad as well, Kyle! Love the work you both do!
OO i like the white kinda corian looking one. It would make a great gentleman's table knife for smoking cigars with the friends!
I like the blue one the most.
You do really good work my man.
The amount of uploads is insane for the craftsmanship that he put in these builds
Beautiful knives once again! To avoid getting hit by static electricity when sharpening the handles, just use a grounding strap, like the one used when working on sensitive electronics! But a copper wire around the wrist and attached to the body of the grinder does the same Purpose! This blue one is my favourite.
Blue. And the Damascus is pretty good especially for a W’s billet.
The blades are amazing I think my favorite one is the blue, but the carbon fiber ones always shine up nice but they are all looking great.
Stunning collection, Kyle!
Blue maple one has my heart. All your craftsmanship is amazing bro. Super talented . Love your videos
You make the most prettiest knives ever there were knives.

It would be the ivory for me it’s got a nice classic look about it beautiful knives
Oh man, I have a hard time picking between the ivory and purple. The contrast on ivory is very cool... but that purple is alluring. Wonderful job as always Kyle!
Beautiful work Kyle! I like the white handle against the dark Damascus and the the blue burl wood handles.. Beautiful stuff!.
Nothing to say apart from WOW they are all fantastic but there is something about the blue one i love , you are an artist .

That blue handle reminds me of the Starry Night Van Gogh painting.

Hi , my favourite handle is the rough weave version. Ultra cool the way the light plays over it , highlighting the deeper and lighter shades . I’ve become a fan of your videos for a while now , so Hi from New Zealand 🇳🇿 to you and your family. Alan
If the Smithsonian Institute has not contacted you yet somebody should let them know you're work needs to be there. I like the blue wood.
I love them all but the blue is my fav
A anti static wristband like the ones used for PC building would keep you from getting shocked
Sir you are my favorite smith on you tube and one of the most talented artists I’ve ever seen! Thank you for sharing as always and I love the white ivory handle ! Keep the superb craftsmanship !
I appreciate your expertise with all equipment, especially the micro adjustment sledgehammer! Those all came out great. Hard to choose a favorite!
I like all of them each has its own nice grain, but i think i like the ivory colored one , it seems to have the biggest contrast between the handle material and the darkness of the blade.
The simulated ivory is gorgeous
Beautiful knives, which is the nicest? They’re all so good it’s impossible to decide! Is that Mum in the background helping out? She must be a top Mum to take such an interest in what her boys are doing. Enjoyed the video. Regards from Down Under.
I love the coarse carbon fiber! I know it might cumbersome but a grounding wrist strap would stop the static electricity.
My favorite is the first blue one you did!
Wow they turned out spectacular! Dang!! 🔪🔥🔨🦾
Man first time you uploaded this I loved it. Watched it again and learned more again. ;)
The "Starry Night" handle is stunning.
Blue handle for me! Amazing work as always!

The blue handle and I love the Damascus patterns , excellent and tedious work Kyle 🙌👍

Thank you.
I really like them all, but if I had to pick I would say the blue box elder burl.
I'll give 5 stars to all 5 knives
Starry night is my favorite one!
i like when you brake down the cost of things like how many feet of steel and aprox the cost of the raw material. and the press berakdown. those are simple questions that alot of us have and just end up googling it
The tight carbon is my favourite as on camera it compliments the Damascus Twist pattern really well.
Hi Kyle, really appreciate your videos. There are also anti-static bracelets you can wear, they have a strap you can tie to your bench or directly to the ground of an outlet to dissipate static buildup
Hey thanks John. Got them, just rarely use them. Merry Christmas
Dark handles...FOR SURE! Awesome craftsmanship as usual Kyle ❤
Purple was my favorite too
Digging the white handle!
Все рукояти хорошие, мне очень понравилась синяя рукоять.
Si tuviera dinero!!! Los compraría todos!!!
That ivory handle 😍
That etching montage was hilarious
stunningly beautiful knives!!
Very nice work! To avoid electic shock, just stick to your skin a wire with tape and conect it to ground wire... forge is strong with you!
Pop it's in a press is okay but rolls of the big bubble wrap in a sheet metal roller is amazing.
That video production was fan-frickin-tactic!! Nice edit! And the resin ivory was my favorite
Love the Burl handles!
