I spent 2 hours doing the ear, it is incredibly complex when you have never done it before but one thing I already understood before watching any video was to always make sure you have the same amount of faces to bridge them together. It just felt right to do it and it is indeed right.
Wow, you are amazing! Your 2.5 minute tutorial was more helpful than several hours of professional courses and big TH-cam channels. You explained everything so clearly and concisely that I learned more from you than from anyone else. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and skills with us. You are a legend!
Aligns with what I already know about retopology in theory. In practice, I'm impressed by how simple you made it look. A full body retopo tutorial will be greatly appreciated. P. S. I subbed you. 😁
Okay, so I want to add one more thing, as far as I know, blender already comes with a retopology add-on built in. By enabling that, you get the x-ray effect, the magnet tool is turned on and a shrink wrap modifier is applied all at the same time. This add-on is much better than doing everything manually. Try it once!
Super helpful tutorial. Other tutorials are longer and good in their own ways, however, many seem to fail illustrating the importance of form and vertx alignment.
this looks amazing... but without the $6 for 'snapping', I don't think the add-on is worth it. The live trace tool is a gift from heaven itself. Completely worth supporting the creator just for that alone.
Now I just have a question. After proyecting it and all that stuff do you apply it to the high res figure? If so, could you pose it, once a skeleton is applied, completely casually? Or would you need to apply it after so you could pose it. I've just tried this last thing I mentioned and it's an incredible slow process pose it that way.
No the best method would be to retopo once you've already sculpted all details e.t.c, Then UV Map your new retopo character, bake the details from the high res to the retopo one. Then from there you can use the Retopo in making the rig and animations. You can watch some of Fly Cat's videos, he/she goes through these processes
He made it look so easy. In fact, it's clearly not... Nothing here is automatic, everything is manual time-killing hard work (Which sometimes most of us will not have time). And also no need for that add-on at all. Turning on snapping and shrink wrap will work fine.
Thank you so much for the best tutorial I have ever seen. I do have a small issue though, does anyone know why I might not be making loops? Topology-wise my model looks correct, but when pressing CONTROL+R to add a loop cut, half the loop is perfect, but then it goes off in a different direction, not making a perfect loop cut. How do I correct this? Is it to do with what vertices are joined?
I'm having trouble merging the vertices. I turned on auto merge but no matter how close i move the vertices to each other they don't merge. (using 3.3)
You need to edit the merge distance, increase it to merge vertices even farther. The distance setting is right below the Auto Merge Checkmark, or in options settings in the Tool section of the N tab
Newb here, so when you are done with the retypology and you’ve added the shrinkwrap. If you wanted to add a face rig all you would have to do is target the shrinkwrap from the face rig in order to move the face easily with the face rig?
I am sory my speaking english not good, i question how if modeling 3d carakter with referensi 2d karakter? Using rotopo ? Please tutorial 🙏 , i am newbie in blender
Thank you for the tutorial! Would be cool to see how you would handle retopologizing more exaggerated proportions - round small eyes close together at the top, looong nose & wide mouth at the bottom. I've found that most tutorials on characters address either realistic human or stylised cartoon character, which although having somewhat exaggerated features, the distance between is grounded in realism If there are any tutorials already out there please share :)
I bought draw X Ray to try it out. It has some limitations with older Blender versions. I did get Draw X Ray 3.8 to work with Goo Engine 4.1.1. If, any of that makes sense. :D It does seem like a lighter version of Retopoflow that might not bog down my potato computer. Also. The auto merge feature wasn't working until I went Tool - Options - Auto Merge (Check). Then Threshold (The Line below) Increased to .015 and above or, whenever you start to see the vertices first snapping together.
This is an old video, draw x ray is not needed anymore. you can just go to mesh edit overlay settings on the top right (while in the edit mode) and enable retopology. :D
Say... I'm gonna search this anyways and I may even have gotten it answered by the time you reply but... how do you "snap" the rotation of the edges/how to do you change the angle of the edges in a more... natural looking way? I know the R-bind exists and have used it, but it fucks up the size of the edges, and I'd like to kinda... constrain the edges? Anyways, I know you probably didn't use anything like that in this video, but damn... its like you're a god or something with making all the faces "trapazoid" shapes automatically for any and all face/edge loops...
Love your tutorials, man. But I don't know how or why this keeps happening, I follow tutorials to a tee, but still something always goes wrong. I turned on Auto-Merge, increased the threshold, but the vertices still just don't want to merge with each other. It's impossible to find a tutorial that doesn't end with hours googling to find out I sometime three months ago accidentally hit a hot-key that turned something off
@@mjstew4453 Sometimes, restarting Blender can fix some issues. But in this case, I think the problem was that Pixelica's character was a lot smaller than mine, so I had to play with the merge threshold to eventually make it work. Following the numbers from the video won't work, with all factors considered
