  • Poor posture, rounded and pronated shoulders, and poor biomechanics of the shoulder joint causes this painful condition. These 2 exercises will help in opening the compression and narrowing of the joint space to help take pressure off the bursa.

Thanks so much Dr Mandell for not only showing two exercises to reduce the pain of shoulder bursitis, but also explaining quite clearly what actually causes the pain. I really thought that I would be stuck with this pain for months, but after following your advice for 2 days I'm already feeling much better and virtually pain free.

Within 10 minutes of doing these 2 simple exercises I can now raise my arm above my shoulder. Can't thank you enough for this FREE advice, going to check out your other videos.

I am up now 12:45 am trying your exercises because the pain in my left shoulder won't allow me to sleep.
I realize I sit at the computer a lot (adjunct professor and writer of books). I also slump using my cellular and tablet (sometimes merely sitting up in bed watching T.V.) as I use these devices.
I use to always carry a heavy duffle bag mainly on this shoulder to and from work.
This pain is recent, but already from just a few minutes I feel like I can some rest.
Thank God for leading me to your video. I have a set of 3 pound weights I can use as per the 2nd exercise demonstrated in this video.
Thank you for caring to help others.

I got instant relief from my shoulder pain by doing the first exercise! I had a shoulder dislocation over 40 years ago and have always guarded my shoulder, in other words, didn't use it much and have been very protective of it. Over the past 10 years the pain has gotten chronic and has started to really get me down. I have been to chiropractors for treatment, sought out massage therapy which helps a bit but doesn't last. Lately, I have been trying different exercises that help, and have been praying I would find one that would help; now I did! I found the magic one that I have been looking for, it takes the pain away instantly; I can't believe it!!! Thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much, Dr Mandell!!!

This is great, I normally do alot of work on my rear delts and external rotators but i still get flare ups of shoulder bursitis. This is a description of my problem for others with internal shoulder pain. I am a commercial fisherman with limited resources. While fishing I started throwing my gear out past where I normally do. Also been looking down at my phone a lot while on shore. One or both of these things caused my shoulder to be in very severe pain. Located inside the joint and up my neck but mostly in the shoulder. Scared to death after two weeks with no recovery. Called My friend who has had lots of surgery for shoulder and rib issues to ask her about my pain. (We share a similar chest deformity where bone pushes out where collarbone meets) She said it was likely my neck. Which let me to this channel, after watching about ten videos. I wasn't able to find my exact problem in those videos so I did a few of the exercises the doctor talked about. One night something I did worked, being I did so many different things I had no idea what helped. As the days went I started trying one exercise at a time making the pain only worse. Built a neck brace from clothing to sleep that kinda helped. As I went back to the videos I noticed the good doc has a insane amount of videos. So I temporarily gave up and went to the doctor. Made a journal of my issues as recommended in a video that I gave to my doctor. Because I am limited on money i only asked for meds to help with the pain.(no opioids, drug abuse history) the doctor gave me a refill on meds I already get but stopped taking last year. (Gabapentin 300mg, IB 800mg, and Amitripryline 75mg) now desperate thinking my personal doc just pushed me away, probably for good reasons. I came back to this channel and started watching again. This time I also wrote a very short message in the commits with vague descriptions of my problem. Asking the doctor or anyone else that could give me help finding a video in this channel about my shoulder. Didn't really expect a reply. The doctor has already done so much making these videos for us and I thought I'd just sound lazy or retarded not being able to locate the video. I knew he already made something in his vast library. Even though the video was older where I posted my question I did recv a reply saying to check bursitis. Bingo there was my pain, now with a name and a healthy way of dealing with it along with a possible cause.
Guess what I'm saying to everyone. Don't give up, keep watching and digging for help. It's all here you just have to be patient. Subscribe and like before you commit and be sure your message is very clear and to the point. Don't expect a consultation in a chat. Be respectful of people's time and keep watching. Use key words with motivationaldoc in your search. Not only will you find your specific problem. You can also find dr orders about bad habits (so to speak) leading to the problem. The type of foods you should eat and exercises to do. Share the video too... it helped another person I knew when they followed the link I gave on FB.
    Make it a great day!

Many muchos. These two simple articulations have helped immensely as I prepare to undergo a procedure next week to replace my right hip due to a botched hack job a surgeon did to repair a broken femur.
I have to wait 3 months post-op b4 the surgeon can perform a procedure on my left shoulder rotator and the bursitis discovered in an ultra sound.
Cannot believe that shoulder surgeons do not instruct patients in this simple technique to greatly reduce or eliminate pain.
Buy yourself a wheat grass shot, on me.

Just been diagnosed with Bursitis following 2 x ultrasounds and await an MRI result. I have had pain for 3 months and at times it is crippling. On the MRI slab yesterday was the first time i had laid flat on a hard surface for months. The pain was so bad I had to halt the MRI and was unable to get off the scan bed, they had to help me up whilst the pain continued. The pain was building over the course of about 10 minutes at which it became unbearable. My shoulders and upper torso were going into a spasm as I tried to lay still. I was told they had enough images and I await the result. As a 50+ year old I have never experienced pain like it and I have suffered a number of broken bones and other trauma's.
I'm hoping that the MRI results will give me a definitive diagnosis then I can start to work on getting back on track. These exercises seem simple enough and I even tried them whilst watching the vid. Liked so i can find it again. 👍

Couldn't lift my left arm above my waist without sharp pain emanating from my shoulder to my elbow. Had to use my other hand to lift the arm and relax the arm completely when I did this in order to lift it. Once my left arm was above my shoulder there was no pain, and I could move it around freely. It was severely limiting my mobility... :-(
Pain is gone today...I can't believe it! I've been doing your exercise as often as possible during the day, and at night, along with Aspercreme and ice on the area in the A.M. The only thing left is a disconcerting clicking noise, emanating from the left shoulder area, when I move my left arm around alot, particularly when I try to move it behind my back. Feels like bone moving across bone. Can't thank you enough for your wonderful video, it's been a G-D-send!!! :-D

Thanks This makes so much sense and immediately makes a difference. I realized that I was spending 10 - 12 hours/day with my shoulders rotated forward at a computer keyboard or driving. Not a good thing to do to my body. Bless you.

Make sure you strengthen your rhomboids and stretch the pecs/chest muscles.

I'll continue to use the two methods as its now sore from being out of place for almost 2 months inflamed I imagine. Will warm up using these two methods as well before working out. But the nerve wrecking pain I use to get is gone very relieved as its been worrying me sick.

After two months of extreme pain, I finally visited my GP, who referred me for an X-ray and ultrasound. Bursitis was the diagnosis. I don't want a cortisone jab without trying less invasive methods. I will try these excersizes and report back. I'm getting to the end of my tether with this.

Ant Corke I just had my cortisone injection earlier today for the same diagnosis. It was very inflamed and been suffering with constant pain daily for 6 years now. I was worried that the injection would be extremely painful but in fact l was very surprised to find that it wasn't painful and straight away l felt coolness of the arm as soon as the cortisone started to go down my arm. They did say it would be painful once the anaesthesia wears off, it's been 8 hours and still waiting for that pain hehe

Thanks for educating me in Layman's terms, Doc. I think a combination of rounded shoulders and heavy bench pressing caused my inflammation. I'll plan on laying off the heavy weights and remind myself to keep my palms facing forward.

Thank you Dr. Mandell....I just had a MRI of my neck and shoulder..waiting on results... I think I have an impinged nerve in my neck that's causing shoulder and upper arm pain. I do not want surgery, ugh! So I will start doing your exercises, thanks for sharing!

After my shoulder injury refused injections form my pain management Doc, who then sent me the PT....PT showed me the external rotations...I also use shoulder stretching pulleys at home when released from injury! Shoulder pulleys help with the external rotation, you can stretch or work your shoulders with these pulley!! dont forget the doorway stretch can give you the external rotation while pushing your chest forward. I have been subbed to motivationaldoc and athleanx.

Thank you, Doctor! I was listening to the Rife frequencies for bursistis and doing these exercises. I'm feeling fast relief, thankfully. My husband is a D.C., and I think he's getting weary of my asking for ultrasonic treatment, (unfortunately, I may have waited too long to ask for treatment that would have taken care of the bursitis more quickly), lol.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE INFO. I HAD A LEFT FROZEN SHOULDER FOR 1 AND 1/2YR. NOW I'M ON MY RIGHT FROZEN SHOULDER (OF COURSE CAUSED BY BURSITIS & IMPINGEMENT OF THE SUPRASPINATUS, AS WELL AS CALCIFICATIONS ON THE HEAD OF THE HUMERUS). FOR SOME REASON THIS SHOULDER IS MUCH WORSE IN PAIN AND RANGE OF MOTION AND HAS TAKEN A LONG TIME IN DEVELOPING AND IS TAKING A LONG TIME IN RECOVERING. I'M NOW INTO 1YR & 2 MOS. WITH VERY LITTLE PROGRESS, THEREFORE I CAN PREDICT THAT I HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO AND THAT IT MIGHT TAKE 2YRS.
YOUR VIDEOS W/ SELF MASSAGE, EXERCISES & STRETCHES HAVE HELPED TO KEEP THE MOBILITY AND LESSEN THE PAIN.

Correct your pronation/rounding of the shoulder. Mostly all bursitis is directly related to pronated shoulders. Strengthen rhomboids/retractors and stretch the chest

The first stretch that you demonstrated has helped me avoid going to my Dr. for another steroid injection. My left shoulder had gotten so bad that I could not lift my arm at all without severe pain. Recently in my right shoulder, I felt that the same thing was happening. Once I started to rotate my palms out and stretch, I felt relief within a few hours. Bursitis is no joke, Thank you for the video, hopefully I can be pain free from now on.
