  • Adhesive capsulitis, commonly known as frozen shoulder, is a condition characterized by the stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint. This occurs when the connective tissue surrounding the joint becomes inflamed and thickens, limiting motion and causing significant discomfort. Early intervention with targeted stretches is crucial in managing and potentially reversing this debilitating condition. These stretches work by progressively enhancing the range of motion, maintaining the elasticity of the joint capsule, and reducing scar tissue formation. When initiated early, stretching exercises can prevent the shoulder from becoming further immobilized, thus mitigating the severity of the condition. Additionally, these exercises improve blood flow to the affected area, promoting faster healing and reducing inflammation. Regular practice of these stretches not only helps in maintaining shoulder mobility but also alleviates pain and stiffness, contributing to a quicker recovery process. By incorporating these preventive strategies, individuals can manage symptoms more effectively and enhance their overall shoulder function, thereby improving their quality of life.

As a license massage therapist that knows the importance of stretching, I love that you make these videos to show people they can self heal or prevent injury. People do not realize we need to stretch daily to keep the muscles healthy.

I hope your frozen shoulder heals soon Dr. Mandell! I had one about 8 years ago. It took around 2-3 years to 100% fully heal. It started to free up very gradually after the first year. I can confirm that all the exercises you describe are spot on. Especially the bad free arm hanging/swinging motions. During the slow healing phase, whilst doing this gently with a 5 or 10kg dumbbell I would get random pops as the connective scar tissue fibres snap! I came to realise that with each joint pop, I was getting more mobility back.
As well as swinging the arm, whilst it hangs try lifting and lowering the dumbbell by bending the elbow and also twisting/rotating it back and forth whilst hanging it vertically. The inertia of the dumbbell helps to release the tense fibres. The pops are a good sign the therapy is working. Swimming regularly (breaststroke) helps also. With frozen shoulder it is very important not to immobilise as this just makes it get worse. The worst thing you can do is put the arm in a sling for days (even though it temporarily feels better) Good luck. Peter.

    It works!!!
    Stretching
    Massage
    Cold Laser
    Tumeric and Natto.
    Shoulders are working again!
Took an entire YEAR folks these exercises and stretching every day...
The natto broke up the scar tissues!!
If I can't sleep from shoulder pain, get out of bed and do the stretches ( ya can't sleep anyhow) that was the trick!

I spontaneously raised my hand before nearly crashing my vehicle such was the pain. None of these exercises helped. Only some extremely painful injection at a radiology clinic. I swore the f..... at the Doctor because the pain was unbearable. Then it disappeared, never to return. I don't remember what he injected in my shoulder but it was a big needle and it was extremely painful. And it worked!!

After more than 2 months of left shoulder movement pain, the finger walking solved it in less than 5 minutes. Thank You!

Can you please make a video for mouse shoulder pain? Mine has gotten so bad as I have increasingly worked more hours online. I stand a lot but it doesn’t seem to help

Hi, this is unrelated to this video but what could be causing a crackling sound in one ear when running or jumping?

I have dislocated shoulder, since 2007. Every night I have to used a sling harness so it won't get dislocated whenever I fell asleep. I've loss count how many times it got dislocated. Couldn't afford to undergo surgery even if I badly wanted too. Godbless, thanks for the info, Philippines🙏👍🇵🇭

I'll try these. I had a shoulder injury that is now hurting. The Dr wants to replace it but says he can't see why it's a lttle stuck.
