  • The shoulder is held securely in place by the ligaments, capsule, and muscles that surround the joint. Whenever these structures are weak or injured, shoulder instability and dislocation can occur. Shoulder dislocation is a common injury in contact sports. If enough force is applied to the shoulder when the arm is in a vulnerable position, the humerus or ball can pop out from the shoulder socket. This is called a shoulder dislocation.

Yov Soto I know you didn't ask me. But I'll answer anyway lol. I personally didn't have the surgery done, but i do have a grade 2 labrum tear with dislocations.
Ive been exercising it continuously for the past 4-5 years and I've not had any problems with dislocations or pains/ tears. But i have been very careful with my arm not doing any crazy movements without warmups but still, i can shadow box and hit pads quite comfortably. Also exercising it is not going to stop it from dislocating again but it drops the odds of it coming out. Let me put it this way, if your injury is still very fresh you have about a 70% chance of it dislocating again in the following months. (So its important to rest). But with a committed exercise routine your odds become something like 80% chance of stability. So you'd only be at 20% risk. At least they're my odds 🙂. But of course you have to always be careful.
Best of luck friend i know that horrible feeling of your shoulder giving out.
EDIT: I just realised that i never answered your question fully. After strengthening the joint for a couple years i don't see why you shouldn't be able to lift heavy again. I'd recommend having someone spot you for the first couple times. Or alternatively you could look into other shoulder joint friendly exercises to work out your chest & shoulders. Look into Jeff Cavalier from Athlene X TH-cam channel. That dudes awesome. He even has a couple vids on this subject.

Popped it back myself a couple of minutes later (most require a Specialist to do that, and actually it is not good to pop it back yourself even if it hurts, as it could cause several tears that would hurt even for months, which otherwise would not), and tried rotating that shoulder back and forth, not knowing that it was a dislocation, which caused it to dislocate again (yes, twice within just less than 1 hour).
got an MRI which showed that there had been a couple of tears on the rotator cuff (I guess), and did my best to believe that it was not a dislocation, and continued my fast bowling (Cricket-right arm) as usual after a couple of weeks on the Sling and a few more strengthening exercises.
since then, I have had 5 dislocations in total within a span of just 3 months, the latest one being on the 22nd of December 2020, while bowling.
again, spent 1 good week with the Sling, providing it with the best rest that I could, started strengthening exercises (all baby steps) using Resistance bands mainly, starting from the 3rd week, and almost by the mid/end of this January, I started playing again, light bowling (had to change to Spin though), and light batting (left-handed). in terms of batting, I only found the Upper Cut a bit difficult or hurting to play (I mean who even plays that now, except R Sharma).
in regard to sleeping, I have been sleeping all my life turning downwards, so the risks to me of dislocating while sleeping are almost none.
most importantly, have also been able to carry out my favourite workout (CHINUPS, not Pullups) as earlier, although not at the same pace, still, I manage, meaning earlier I used to do like 25 to 30 reps/day, but as of now, only around 15 at most.
adding to it, as of now, I probably am bowling at my full strength (SPIN requires ideally no effort, except for turning and hence, almost no impact on my non-bowling hand-left).
so, despite not having surgery, the workouts that I am now able to do as usual (although, not at the same pace or reps), include Chinups, Pushups, a little bit of Punching.
for instance, the one thing that I loved doing the most was fast bowling, and now I had to give it up and replace it with Spin (as per Cricket bowling, the only bowler I found out to be successfully bowling following a dislocation on his non-bowling arm, and then several surgeries is only Andrew Tye).
there are literally thousands if not hundreds of thousands around the world with missing body part(s), and a dislocation would be ideally nothing (clearly not the end of the world even if you are an athlete) if you could adjust your movements accordingly, and if you do not, it could also make your life a bitch (my dad's had around 25 dislocations since his 1st when serving at the Army nearly 4 decades ago, as he had not put in much effort into rehab).
finally, the only treatment that I got was using a mixture of many Ayurvedic raw materials that was recommended by a local Ayurvedic practitioner, who prescribed them mentioning that they would end the nightmare for good, and the reason why it recurs was that during a dislocation, apparently, whatever those ligaments or liquid-like cartilage things tend to release or fall out of the socket, and once that happens, it will continuously happen (sometimes even after Surgery) following each wrong movement. so, did that treatment for a couple of weeks, and it may also be a major reason that I have not had another dislocation (wouldn't even want to imagine, its that depressing) so far, although, I couldn't really compare the levels of cartilage on my shoulders through a proper scan (ideally an MRI).
the takeaways: providing good rest (although I believe I did not provide enough), proper strengthening and rehab (it's hard nowadays if not impossible though, given this COVID), good nutrition (obviously), particularly good carbs (I ate like a shit ton of Manioc, and my Cancer cells are also now probably gone for good, lol), most importantly not doing anything that you think could lead to a dislocation, like over-stretching, especially throwing, and etc.
following a dislocation (with or without Surgery), the main thing that you have to put into your head is that that particular shoulder is never going to be the same, and so are your movements.

I deal with it when I over-use my shoulder with a large range of motion. Or sleep in a position that's known to let the Shoulder give out easily, I'm not sure what to do. It's not like it happens persistently but it's happened over 20+ times now. I'll be sleeping then my arm will come to a point and then give out, causing my shoulder to lock up and with slight ease I'm able to move back into my shoulder and it'll be painful for that first couple of seconds and I'll pass back out. When I'm conscious and it happens it's because I carelessly threw my arm up over my head by throwing a ball or lifting it the wrong way.

I think I partially dislocated my shoulder last week in a drunken fall, but it didn't pop out.
I had a graze on the palm of my hand so I must have landed on that, but my shoulder felt like somebody had slammed down on the top of it with a large hammer. Pretty much every muscle around my shoulder was sore, and it swelled up a lot, and the ball/cup was sore as well.
I could barely move it for a day or two afterwards, but it seemed to get about 10% better every day.
After 8 days now it's pretty much back to normal except for some swelling remaining, and the top of my collarbone is a bit sensitive, like somebody tapped it with a little hammer..

My shoulder dislocated 5 years ago and ended my boxing career due to a street fight. First doc I seen said I needed surgery but the second doc we seen said to finish rehab because he said surgery is only need if my shoulder constantly keeps popping out. I finish rehab quicker then expected and rushed back into boxing. One day I felt my shoulder pop out but then I felt it fall back into place. Here and there when my shoulder would be in vulnerable position I would feel it slightly about to dislocate. Found out that is what u call shoulder instability. A Few years past and haven’t felt or had any shoulder instability and now started to slowly working out again. My shoulder feels stronger than ever but still gonna start off slow this time

Man as someone who gave his soul to that game if i could tell you one thing I promise you it is not worth your shoulder. College athlete 2 years ago, these days I am fighting a mental, emotional, and physical battle with shoulder pain everyday. Name every single thing you like to do, instrument, driving, typing, weightlifting, EVERYTHING... and then ask yourself if a couple years of football are worth losing everything else. Trust I understand the love of a game, and you will do as you please, but I wouldn’t wish a life as limited as mine (at 25 years old..) on my worst enemy. Godspeed to all, keep fighting.

My right shoulder is killing me, I can feel and hear cracking sound that my right shoulder make when I move it and I also feel weaker. This doesn't happen with my left shoulder. When I lift the dumbell, my right arm get tired twice as fast as my left hand. I also dislocated my elbow a bit, I was working the tyre punch bag and I blocked it with my hands with the wrong technique. Told my mom bout this but she's like don't care at all. Anyone know how to fix this at home? Going to expert sounds expensive.
