I spent 7 years at U of T getting a BA and a MA, and I second this video. It's a great university. You should take advantage of your professor's office hours and the writing centers at different colleges. It is a competitive school, but that competition will help excel in your career path. @@liannaxiao1651 Those are great questions! For me personally, yes, I did find MA a bit easier and less competitive! But, I think that maybe because I knew exactly what I want to do. Grad school is a different game rather than being a more difficult game. Since the population is much smaller in grad school, I don't think the drop-out rate matters. In grad school, everyone has a lot of passion for their research, but people still drop-out for many reasons. People will usually have a serious talk with their potential advisor a few months before, or after, beginning their program. Daniel Jung thank you that’s really helpful! I’m actually starting my Masters in Teaching program at U of T in September, so I’m guessing it’ll be quite a bit different haha. But I just got nervous from all the things I’ve heard from my undergrad friends about how hard undergrad is at U of T and how high drop out/major switching rates were! Fingers crossed that they’re not trying to weed people out as much in Masters 😅😅
Gr. 12s - last point's really important!!! the program you choose isn't set in stone. You aren't forced to pursue anything for the rest of your academic career, or even life (an example of negative all-or-nothing ideation). Course, program switches are normal and easier than you think!
I'm in 10th grade and I always wanted to study abroad. To be honest, I heard about U of T from Anne with an e 😂 but anyways I knew Canada would be an amazing place to study at. When I snooped around to know how U of T was, I was so scared and frightened from how intense it sounded and how the administration won't care about you and how you'd have no life except studying and stuff like that. I was dreadful of it, and I didn't want to make a wrong descion if I were to apply to it. I'm the only one in my family that's going to college and the pressure is already on me because of that. But this video gave me some hope and reassured me, so thank you so much for shedding some light, and who knows? Maybe in 2 years I'll be a U of T student!!!
hah, i’m in the same situation!! i’m just way younger. all my family dropped out of high school, and really wanna see me succeed. i’ve always been intrigued by studying abroad and really wanted to go to canada or the uk to study. i was a bit intimidated by the rumors as well but after watching videos and reading multiple articles i believe that if you just try your best and focus on studying it should be an amazing experience and one to remember
My son just graduated from Chemical Engineering. It’s the best investment we ever made! He was offered his first job before he even graduated in the middle of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic when people are losing their jobs or having a hard time finding one. Now, he’s even earning more than me (and I actually thought my pay was already great!). But, thank you UofT!!!
that's amazing to hear! if you don't mind me asking, where did he get offered his first job? I'm curious since I'm a first-year in chemical engineering and would like to know more about coop/job opportunities
I completed first year in ufot and ugh it’s not easy! After exams everything just HIT ME LIKE A BUS 🚌 if anyone is planning to go to uofT, even the Mississauga Or Scarborough campus, put in the work, u will never have a breeze experience and pls take advantage of office hours, I didn’t take much advantage of it and I regret it, they do help and any student can swear on that! UofT is a great school and if you plan to go there, take advantage of opportunities and definitely having friends is helpful to help one other! You will find friendly and helpful people and create great friendships! PUT IN THE WORK EVEN WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE GIVING UP because first year goes by fast! this is my advice as a student that finished first year❤️
This is so accurate! I just finished my first year. I was also indecisive. I switched around courses so many times and even changed from social science to life science. I always looked at UofT as this big scary place. It is big- but there is so much flexibility and support. This is especially true because of how the university is divided into campuses and colleges. It feels a lot smaller once you’re there.
I appreciate your honesty and transparency with debunking the murkiness in the U of T atmosphere. This is certainly not one of these videos in which people try to sugarcoat or mask the real challenges with lofi hip hop running in the background, by trying to make everything look pretty and sunshine. Please keep it up. Truth may be hard but at least we all get a chance to hear the truth rather than be protected or shunned from it. Best of luck in your second year and beyond and awesum job with this video. It’s to the point, no bs and honest.
This was really helpful-can't thank you enough!!! I heard a lot of the rumours that you basically receive virtually no support in U of T so that point really helped demystify things.
you have no idea how much I needed this video. Almost everyone says U of T is basically impossible to get through and I’ve been stressing over saying yes to the offer for like a month now. Thank you so much this made me feel so much better 💛
Graduating this year from UofT, I decided to switch from the downtown campus to the UTM campus, best decision ever. Such a great experience. Also switched from Waterloo to uoft , boy am I grateful.
@@salsaglitter5976 hey! Honestly it wasn't too bad but you should constantly do readings a week before your lecture (i.e. chapter 1 a week before you start, chapter 2 you start on week one, chapter 3 on week 2) so that way if you ever are too busy, at least you'll be on top of your readings. Classes are decent but you'll have profs that like to use trick questions so be very particular with the wording and answer what you think is best. Have your workload evenly spread out over both semesters such as having 2 hard classes and 2-3 easy ones each sem so that way you aren't overworking yourself. Check "rate my prof" for opinions on profs when choosing which classes you want to take. Most of your questions will be in the syllabus so definitely read that before emailing profs (they hate repeating themselves). Labs (bio and chem which are mandatory for neuro) can sometimes be overwhelming so read up on the content beforehand and be sure to ask your TAs and profs any Q's you may have bc they're there to help. UofT is known for trying to weed out ppl in their first year so it WILL be challenging and you will feel like crap because it's such a change from hs but as long as you plan out your day, are on top of your assignments and always ask for help, I don't think you'll struggle too much. Also, if you're interested in looking for more opportunities in the neuro field (or any field as this is a general tip), reach out to profs that you think have similar interests to you. This is very helpful when you need reference letters for school later on or if you're looking for jobs related to your field of interest. I graduated with honors after having a pretty crap first year so there's always opportunity to grow and get better over your uni journey. Good luck!
@@natalieeeeeeeeeee97 thank u so much for replying!! That was so extremely helpful ! Also, are the people studying neuroscience pretty competitive? Are there tons of people majoring in it or is it a smaller amount?
@@salsaglitter5976 because neuro is a newer field (only really became a "thing" maybe 20y ago) yeah it's competitive. In terms of UofT, you end up applying to the actual program after your first year (you'll hear more about applying to POST when the deadline opens) and once you make it (based on the requirements they have like GPA, minimum score in psy100, etc), then you get access to classes that will be more related to what you're interested in. In terms of people majoring in it, I think it's a decent amount. It's not as large as bio/health sci/chem but it's not as small as smth like forensics. In that sense, it's slightly competitive because it also is a mix of a large number of disciplines (bio/Chem/psych/physics/philosophy) so you'll have a lot of people taking neuro classes or people interested in neuro that aren't 100% neuro students. Job wise, like any health sci or Life sci program, it's expected for you to pursue a master's or PhD program because you can't do much with just a BSc. Any more questions, let me know 😊
I graduated from UofT mechanical engineering last year. One thing I found useful is the workshop at student success centre which is available to any program. Other program also have their own workshop too. I would recommend going to some of those to learn about studying technique, note taking tip, etc.
I feel like one of the most important things to note is that, if you want something you need to actively try and get that. In high school, teachers are more likely to tell you about opportunities and clubs but in university if you want a job opportunity or friends then you need to try to make them and try to talk to your professor about them. (edit: also take people's horror stories with a grain of salt, because your experience in any university is dependent on what you do. also try to be on good terms with the TAs because they are the university equivalent of tutors)
thank u for this video ive been putting off accepting my offer from uoft bc I keep hearing things like you wont make friends and the environment is super cutthroat but I'm about to hit accept now so 🥺❤️looking forward to your future videos!!
thank you SO much for this video! uoft has been my dream school for a few years and i got accepted but started to doubt myself when i saw so much negative stuff especially on reddit. one of my biggest fears is the lack of community and difficulty in making friends that i was hearing about. but this showed me that not all of that is true. super helpful thanks sm!!!
NicolesVlogs thanks! i have a quick question if you don’t mind: how did you find the work load for life sci and which classes did you take? i’m in life sci but still VERY undecided so idk if i should take bio, chem, calc and all those usual courses.
Amrita Brar so first sem I took chem, math, a seminar course and sociology (dropped bio: i talk about that sort of in my first month of uni vid if you’re interested☺️) and id say chem was definitely a heavier course. Math for me wasnt too bad bc i did ap in high school. This sem im taking some diff courses (not rlly life sci) which i talk about also in my first year recap video if u wanna see all the courses, but briefly, id say life sci courses are pretty heavy in workload compared to high school and chem is more work than bio (pre lab and post lab take longer too), bio theres lots of readings but not everyone rlly does it so its more chill than chem id say. It does depend though on how much knowledge youre coming into your first year with. Idk if that helps aha sorry im not like too sure how id describe the workload haha ://
NicolesVlogs i just watched your first year recap vid and i totally relate to you talking ab dropping science courses. i’ve always taken those higher level courses in hs too but while they’re interesting i find i have to work a little harder in those bc writing and social science just make more sense in my brain lol. but that’s good to know! i have an interest in environmental studies and am hoping to minor in french so i think i’m gonna try to take a mix of life sci and social sciences courses along with my vic one courses. thanks!
I started UofT as a life sci student. Changed to geography/environmental studies after my first year. I have to say, everything you said is correct. I remember sitting in con hall for bio with 1000 other people my first class and just felt like I didn't belong. First year courses are filter courses and I obviously got filtered out. Most of my friends though stayed in the program and have gone to do amazing things. I graduated a while back and went back to campus in 2015 to walk around, I was proud to have gone there and that I made it through :)
I'm from Chile, the next year I going to move from Chile to Canada and apply for university, my first option is UofT thanks for sharing your experience 💖
Hey! Just wanted to thank you so much for this video! I got admitted into Life Sciences at Erindale/Mississauga (I'm still waiting for the response from St. George), and this video was really helpful!! Thanks again!
@@mi793 hi! It really depends on what program you want to apply to at the end of first year. Currently specializing in psychology so I only had one required class. It’s definitely hard because of online and most of my classes are recorded ones I watch whenever I want but as long as you stay motivated and keep up with all your reading/lectures, you’ll be good!
thanks for this! i’m in the process of accepting my admission. i’m from the states and choosing b/t u of t and some us schools and i feel like i haven’t gotten an honest opinion about u of t until this.
thank you thank you thank YOU for this video!! I applied to UoT psychology so ill be at the Mississauga campus. Hopefully I will get accepted. Praying everyday lol. thank youuuuu :) and good luck in sociology!
Thank you so much for this video. Honestly it’s been on my watch later for a while and I thought “why not just watch it now?” (even though I’m currently procrastinating lol). After watching this I feel much better about everything. I had so much anxiety and fears that I was gonna dislike UofT and possibly be the dumbest kid on campus but it’s actually not that bad (for now at least). I am definitely that student who isn’t terrible at sciences, but enjoys them so it’s makes me feel good that someone who actually goes there felt the same way I do. The imposter syndrome is starting to settle in but I’m trying to accept that fact that I got here by hard work and not just a fluke! This video is really wanting to make me reach out to my Profs and Ta’s as well. They seemed scary but I think I’m going to try to get some extra help. Thank you again!!!
Hey Erin! That's SO GREAT to hear! :) You got this! It might be a little rocky in the beginning, but I'm sure you'll manage well. Reach out to me if you ever need help or wanna chat about anything!
love this video!! I'm newly admitted for the Social Science stream...thank you so much for the video!! hope you're safe and happy at home! lots of prayers and love from korea
Thank you for posting this! I got into UofT Life Sci back in Feb, and have been stressing so much about my decision but this really helped! Do you have any advice/tips for dealing with Imposter Syndrome? I’ve been feeling it throughout high school so i’m kinda worried haha
camille ! Hey camille, im glad it helped u out☺️☺️ and i think for dealing with imposter syndrome you kind of just have to remind yourself that you are capable! You got into the program so that means you are supposed to be there no matter how misplaced u might feel. Its def difficult but try not to think about how people around you are doing/acting because they may seem alot more put together but really this is a new experience for ALL first year students so everyones is just figuring their way out. Comparison is probably the largest factor is what causes imposter syndrome so try to just focus on your own work! It really does come with time i think though 😊 hope that helps and congrats on your acceptance!!!
god thank u for this 🥺 got into uoft social sciences (university college) and idk if i'm ready to go there sfjkdl + my ubc decision hasn't been announced yet so i'm having a hard time deciding between going to uoft or a local school or to wait for ubc or whatever ahhh + i'm so scared about making friends if i don’t stay in res bc i'm not that outgoing n shit idk but thank u so much for this vid
cat g HEY BB, im so glad it this helped u out! Everythings gonna work out so dont worry☺️ im not the most outgoing + a commuter but still made friends! Best of luck and thanks for watching🥰
@@scoob1670 Heyy I got into New College too! I'm in Math and Physical Sciences though. Btw there's a group chat on messenger for UofT class of 2024. I could add you, if you want!
The one thing that I should have known before coming to U of T is how to plan out my journey. Now in first year, it's hard to do that, but to some extent, I still should have done some planning beforehand before kind of going all over the place with what courses and majors, minors, and other things I wanted to do.
The only thing or part that would make life difficult or learn is if you like the content. if you hate it might as well drop the course 🤣 the info will take 3x as long to learn than something you like. good luck XD and still no friends at uoft so for me the story still holds true 🙃 for people who have no friends.
April 26, 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic around the world and Canada on Lockdown. Despite of this pandemic, my son who still has 1 final exams in Engineering this week and is yet to attend a “virtual” graduation ceremony this coming June 2020 WAS OFFERED A FULL TIME MANAGEMENT POSITION IN A BIG PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY. The University of Toronto is a tough school, but in the real world it’s graduates are highly respected and admired. I’m in HR of a top law firm, and we know that UofT grads generally have lower GPAs. But, we know the difficulty factor of this university. I attribute my son’s very first job (and just 1of 2 that he applied in the middle of final exams) to UofT’s stellar reputation!
Wow! I’m a transfer student from Taiwan, and I have been admitted to arts sci (life sci) a few weeks ago!!!!!!! Though I’m still waiting engineering offer lol. Thanks soooo much for the video, I can’t wait to go to UofT!!
Hey, so I just got admitted into UofT Sc , I just want to thank you for making this video because it's really puts things into perspective , since I've accepted the admission , to be honest I'm a bit at ease . So thank you once again.
Alice Wang heyyy thanks for watching! Ngl i dont rlly remember exactly but i did take AP math, and my high school average was around a mid 90 ish i thinkkk
I did my undergrad at uoft (life science) and I'm doing a masters still at uoft. My main tip would be to research the different majors. If you want to go to grad school make sure you pick a major that will provide with more research opportunities
Amalia Caballero would you say you found your u of t undergrad harder or your u of t masters program harder? In terms of competition, drop out rates, grades etc
Also graduated from UofT life science, I had very stressful four years and transferred to Biostats for my master. People need to think twice before coming here, cuz outcome is not positively related to how much time you spent.
OMG literally debating I dont know wtf to do... I applied to UofT and McGill as like whatever right? I live in BC btw. But then i got accepted...... but I havent gotten accepted by UBC yet sooooo...... also I got into Life Sciences with ''membership'' into Trinity. I heard some nasty things about it. What's your take lol!?
Burak Ozkan Hey! Congrats on your acceptance :) and soooo im in Trin, and tbh the colleges are not a big deal at all haha its more just during Frosh week you do it with your college and then after that its kinda like no one rlly cares about the college youre from Lollll
wait really? I have 1 day left for my decision I'm tor between uoft and queens life sci (Bacholor of sci honours for queens), itd be great if you answered why. you making me nervous man
Hi! So, I got into UofT but I have an EXTREMELY bad work ethic and I procrastinate HORRIBLY. I really want to fix these bad habits and become a regular studier because I know I won't make in at UofT if I don't. Do you have any advice for someone like me? How did you learn to adapt to UofT for the better?
scoobydoobydoodle heyyy for me it rlly came with trying diff things like studying at diff times of the day to see when im most in the mood, trying methods like pomodoro (I recommend this one), or even studying with friends so u hold each other accountable! It does come with trial and error I think, and tbh im still in the process of figuring out what works best for me! Procrastinating is also not always a bad thing haha sometimes i needed to feel that urgency u feel when ur running out of time to get my work done LOL. Hope that helps a bit!
Hello! I just got accepted to UofT and the Life Sciences a couple days ago. Thank you for sharing all of this information. The course work is something I was really worried about, but reading the comments and hearing you discuss it made me feel a lot more comfortable. I'm good at science but sometimes I struggle a bit here and there. Is there office hours or other ways to get help while taking the courses? I'm also a dual citizen but currently living in the States and my grades are a mid 90's range. What would my average be around at UofT? Thanks again!
Hey laura, congrats on your acceptance:)) Yes! Every prof has office hours and those are really useful for asking any questions or even sometimes just going to hear what other students ask if you dont have questions yourself (depending on the prof they run their office hours differently). I cant rlly tell u what your average at uoft will be because it REALLYYY depends on the person. It depends on how easily u adjust to the uni teaching style and (u probably read in other comment replies but) study habits.. i think though if you’re interested in science(which is a rlly important factor) and u had mid 90s avg, youll be fine but again, it rlly depends on each person and how they adapt to the new environment so i cant promise anythingggg sorry but hope that still helps!!😄😄
My beloved alma mater: a fantastic research university but extremely competitive and not always cozy for someone who does not come from Canadian culture...
DDS here. I don't know how this video ended up on my feed but not much better to do during quarantine. I like to give advice for young undergrads especially in the area I studied. Life/medical sciences. I hope I can be a bit of help some how. What do you want to do after life sciences at UofT? Medicine? Dentistry? Pharamcy? Masters then either one of those? or PhD? Your end career goal needs to be very clear especially entering life/health sciences related. You can't just attend sciences because you like sciences. Real world is much different. Getting a job with just a life sciences degree will be very difficult. If you have questions please do ask.
OMG Ashley i need this vid SOOO MUCH!I literally have a tons of questions lmaoo. Im going to UT LifSci psychology in Sept, do you have any suggestions on the course selection first year? Any hard courses of professors I should avoid? How do the double major system work for freshmen? Sry for firing so much questions at you lol. ;)
if you want to know more about professors, you should check our rate my prof because some of the comments are quite useful and specific (while others just say that the professor sucks)
I'm not Ashley lol, but I did take PSY100. It's a very interesting course and covers different areas of psychology. The tests are also very straightforward if you understand the concepts (all multiple choice). My prof was really good, but I hear other profs are even better, so I think you are in good hands. You can definitely pass just by attending their lectures. Would recommend, but just know that there is a LOT of reading, and they are necessary to do in order to do well (~85%+) in the course.
This video honestly calmed me down a ton! I watched so many other videos talking about UofT as almost impossible to pass and I am still thinking about my choices. Have one more year left to graduate from high school and it is all happening so fast. Does anyone have any experience in doing Chemical and Physical Sciences?
Biochem and orgo chem labs are not really hard, except inorganic labs which were 7 hours long and are the hardest labs any undergrad would do at UTSC. Trust me its a real pain
Ahhhh so much to take in!!! Quick question though: I've accepted my uni acceptance (yay!) But I was sent an email about webinars and where to start and AHHHH!! I'm overwhelmed!! So my question is like how did you start off? Like any tips for integrating into uni? And how did you tackle webinars and such? Ahhh I'm sorry but thank you your content is helping me ^^
hey! i think the first thing is to slowly read through emails but honestly i didn't read some of the emails because it was overwhelming haha. There should be a website that shows you what programs are, how to select courses, etc, so look through those :) I also have a few other videos on this channel about my first year that might give u more insight :)
Yaa dw too much! Ppl in first year are all looking to make friends so my advice would he to be open and try talking to ppl in class or joining groupchats on fb, etc :)
Hey! Just wondering, I applied to UofT and currently waiting for a response, what was your average score in grade 12 if u don’t mind me asking? Just to have an idea
Ahh Uof T LifeSci is my dream, thank you for your help! When did you get your offer? I still haven't received one and most of my friends have already :(
Isabella De la Torre Hi! Sooo i got my offer in March last year, but Ik they do send out a bunch later in April too so dw too much! I have a friend who got his offer in May!
Isabella De la Torre I'm waiting for the same program! My other friends who applied got their acceptances back in January and February so I'm slightly worried but I emailed them and they said they're expecting the majority of admissions decisions to be made in April.
Thank you for making this video. I've been debating whether I should apply next year but I've been worrying that I'm not smart enough for it or that I wouldn't be able to handle it. This has really helped though and wanted to ask if yoj applied anywhere else also because I read that you couldn't or something and wanted to know if i could keep my options open.
1st year UOfT concepts are equivalent to 3rd year learning concepts at other schools. But the trick is as a first year student, you will not know and just have to learn it and fight it out lol.
Hi! np :) and UTSC seems pretty great in my opinion haha. I was actually considering going there for mental health studies but ultimately chose st.george because I was smth more broad. I did like the idea of smaller classes and less busy campus and I do have a friend at utsc and she says she thinks its definitely more chill than st.george in terms of workload. I think each campus has its own pros and cons though
I hated UofT, I was lonely and stressed and miserable and halfway through I realized I should have gone to a different school with a lower suicide rate
i feel shitty bc im in my 3rd year going into my 4th and i only now decided what to double major in.. like im gonna apply for POST this year.. im so behind
Hey! I got accepted to both utsc and utsg for public health but idk which one to pick! im a very social person that wants to experience a downtown vibe because i heard utsc was like you never graduated highschool. I need utsc for the coop program tho!! :(
Hey sarah omg i get your struggle that was the same exact problem my friend was having when thinking about coming to UofT. If you do choose downtown, i'm sure you'll be able to find other opps to get involved in work if you seek it out (because there's so many things downtown both in and out of school), but then again the co-op program sets things up for you so it's more like secure.. I think it depends on how much u need the co-op.. I do have a First Year recap video up where i talk a bit more about UTSG so take a look if u need a bit more insight but I'm sorry idk too much about the co-op program. :(
Nope I live off res, and no unfortunately no entrance scholarships but there are scholarships for current students too.. not sure i apply for those though haha ill have to check
ahah I guess the level of difficulty really depends on the program, but there is definitely the rigorous reputation! Definitely consider applying though :)
So, I want to go to this school, but considering the situation at hand, I'm not sure if I would be able to attend because I'm living in the US. What would you say?
I am currently an American and am graduating from uoft this year! Continuing grad school in Canada (at Western). I would say that if you’re American it’s easier than a lot of other countries. I think that the hardest part right now would be getting your student visa, but if you’re accepted you could probably get it at the border (I got mine at peace bridge) and they’d probably be able to give you one as long as US citizens are allowed in Canada!
There is no way I would recommend going to UofT for undergrad. The difference in the amount of work you need to do in order to succeed between high school and UT is staggering.
Are there any other recommendations ?? Because through internet, I can't tell with which UNI my ship will sail successfully and should not sink instead. So help mee
@@aakansharathore8714 It's difficult to answer this question without knowing more details. What do you want to do after you finish university? It all depends on what major you are choosing and how much work you are willing to put in. Assuming we are looking at Canadian universities only I would pick (in broad terms) a school like Queens, McGill, and perhaps Western. I believe that over there one can obtain a much better balance between academics and social life. You will still need to study reasonably hard but you are more likely to succeed.
@@michaela.5363 Sorry for the late reply. Your reply indeed was informative and I would surely take up into consideration what you said and will think about it. Thank you:)
Hi! Approximately how many hours did you study/do work for every day! Thank you this video was really helpful Im in grade 12 rn and want to go to med school in the future but I don’t want UofT to ruin my GPA
Srishti Khadilkar hey! It really depended on the day haha some days with lots of class I didnt study at all or maybe like an hour or two and some days with only one class or smth i studied like 4-6 hours? Definitely also depends on if its midterm season or not. Im still trying to figure out a system to keep myself productive each day but its a work in progress.. sorry theres not like one clear cut answer😔
This is probably the worse one. You do require to memorize formulas and basic keys, but learning to adapt them into scenarios is probably the most important thing! :- )
iTzSpicey my bf did kin at uoft and it was difficult to say the least. He ended up graduating with high honours and was a top student from his graduating class. That being said, he managed to get into one PT masters program in Ontario (off the waitlist) mostly due to his gpa. However, it seems like uoft undergrad prepared him well since he is currently at the top of his class! If you’re planning to go to grad school or a professional program, go to an easier school because a high gpa at uoft might be a meh gpa somewhere else if you catch my drift 😅
Hey I'm planning to join UoT in Fall 2020, and I'm planning to join Physical and Mathematical Sciences Program at New College.
Basically, for UofT imagine that you are a tiny fish in shark infested ocean, but the sharks are actually nice.
lol yuppp
why did i think of finding nemo
@@NicolesVlogs its like harvard xD

Ahhh im so glad it helped u out and Best of luck with everything! You got this!🥰🥰
hah, i’m in the same situation!! i’m just way younger. all my family dropped out of high school, and really wanna see me succeed. i’ve always been intrigued by studying abroad and really wanted to go to canada or the uk to study. i was a bit intimidated by the rumors as well but after watching videos and reading multiple articles i believe that if you just try your best and focus on studying it should be an amazing experience and one to remember
I'm in the same situation omg
Woah I have the same dream and literally felt the same way! Maybe in 3 years I'll be a U of T student too!
@@asmaluthfy2619 samee i feel like we should make a gc for ppl who dream to be a uoft student what do you think?
PUT IN THE WORK EVEN WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE GIVING UP because first year goes by fast! this is my advice as a student that finished first year❤️
YES YOURE RIGHT :) thank you for this!!
YEAh you're so rightttttt! also im super glad to hear that you found you wanted to switch to life sci :) that's great!
Thank you!!
I just graduated U of T. This video is largely representative of my experience. I appreciate the video!
yay i'm glad! and Congrats on graduation! :))
Going into fourth year at U of T and still feeling imposter syndrome 😭
E. Lau aw man😭
I'm a 4th year student from UTM (Satellite campus) and I am still feeling imposter syndrome. I don't think that changes :(
This was really helpful-can't thank you enough!!! I heard a lot of the rumours that you basically receive virtually no support in U of T so that point really helped demystify things.
Stacey Kasirye Hey Stacey Im so glad it was helpful!! Best of luck with everything☺️☺️

Graduating this year from UofT, I decided to switch from the downtown campus to the UTM campus, best decision ever. Such a great experience. Also switched from Waterloo to uoft , boy am I grateful.

Which program?
Graduating from Neurosci at UofT after this sem and I definitely agree with these points
Good luck on all of your exams
Natalie L happy graduation!(despite the circumstances) and thank u😊😊
How difficult is neuroscience at u of t? I’m a high school senior thinking of studying neuroscience so what can I expect?
Jo Ka hey thank you for the info!:)
Ashley Chan Yess so true👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 thank you!!☺️

thank you SO much for this video! uoft has been my dream school for a few years and i got accepted but started to doubt myself when i saw so much negative stuff especially on reddit. one of my biggest fears is the lack of community and difficulty in making friends that i was hearing about. but this showed me that not all of that is true. super helpful thanks sm!!!
Amrita Brar AW yay! Glad it helped and CONGRATS on your acceptance, excited for you!!🥰
NicolesVlogs thanks! i have a quick question if you don’t mind: how did you find the work load for life sci and which classes did you take? i’m in life sci but still VERY undecided so idk if i should take bio, chem, calc and all those usual courses.
NicolesVlogs i just watched your first year recap vid and i totally relate to you talking ab dropping science courses. i’ve always taken those higher level courses in hs too but while they’re interesting i find i have to work a little harder in those bc writing and social science just make more sense in my brain lol. but that’s good to know! i have an interest in environmental studies and am hoping to minor in french so i think i’m gonna try to take a mix of life sci and social sciences courses along with my vic one courses. thanks!
Amrita Brar ooo sounds like a great plan👏🏼👏🏼 good luck!😊😊 and thanks for watching🥰

Ahhh thank you for sharing! :)

Hey laura, congrats on your acceptance:))
Yes!
Oo also besides office hours theres other help centres like math help centre, or writing centre, etc ☺️
NicolesVlogs thank you so much!! i really appreciate your response. looking forward to your new videos 🤗
Laura Pollock youre very welcome! Thank YOU🥰
My beloved alma mater: a fantastic research university but extremely competitive and not always cozy for someone who does not come from Canadian culture...
@lopen nhioloipi he means that even tho toronto is so diverse, UofT is racist as fuck 🚫🧢
If you have questions please do ask.

if you want to know more about professors, you should check our rate my prof because some of the comments are quite useful and specific (while others just say that the professor sucks)
First year profs are generally decent so idk if I'd say to avoid any in particular, also you apply for majors around March of first year!
Would recommend, but just know that there is a LOT of reading, and they are necessary to do in order to do well (~85%+) in the course.
wow ur editing is so good
omg thank youuuu
@@NicolesVlogs ahhh!! Thank you!! I'm kind of worried about friends as well but I think it should be fine ;^; thank you for replying back ^^
Yaa dw too much!
Something I needed lol thank youuuu
ahh glad it helped :)
My cousin just got excepted into UofT and she wants me to go to it as well
Ahh Uof T LifeSci is my dream, thank you for your help! When did you get your offer? I still haven't received one and most of my friends have already :(
Isabella De la Torre Hi! Sooo i got my offer in March last year, but Ik they do send out a bunch later in April too so dw too much! I have a friend who got his offer in May!
I got my life sci offer the week before we had to choose. Keep on waiting!
@@NicolesVlogs thank you :)
@@MatthewHoHiWorld thank you sm!!
Hey! I'm glad it helped. :) I applied to UTSC, and ryerson!
1st year UOfT concepts are equivalent to 3rd year learning concepts at other schools. But the trick is as a first year student, you will not know and just have to learn it and fight it out lol.
The intro 🔥 😍
thank youuuuu
cool! what app you use to edit ur video?
Hi! I use final cut pro x :)
This is a great video! I do have a few questions, is there any way i could possibly ask them anywhere else?
Aisha Aziz yeah sure you can message me on instagram @imnicolein if you have insta!
Thank you for this! what do u think about UTSC?
Hi! np :) and UTSC seems pretty great in my opinion haha.
Thank you so much for the advice!
You are so welcome! :)
Hey just curious what marks did you get in high school? Specifically grade 11 and 12? Also what career are you trying to get into? Cool video btw :)
heyy i think my average was in the mid 90s and not sure yet about career tbh ahah
@@NicolesVlogs that's really good tbh haha did you apply to mcgill? also what city are you originally from?
Nope i lived in aurora but moved closer to toronto so i just applied to schools in toronto :)
@@NicolesVlogs oh okay! do you live in dorms and are you planning on staying on res all 4 years? did you get any scholarships?
Nope I live off res, and no unfortunately no entrance scholarships but there are scholarships for current students too.. not sure i apply for those though haha ill have to check
UofT seems quite hard, I've heard from others but I'm considering to apply there next year
ahah I guess the level of difficulty really depends on the program, but there is definitely the rigorous reputation! Definitely consider applying though :)
So, I want to go to this school, but considering the situation at hand, I'm not sure if I would be able to attend because I'm living in the US. What would you say?
honestly it's hard to tell... we can only hope that it'll be settled by then :)
Thank you:)
Could you make a video on how to get into U of T? Pleasess
She says stuff that makes perfect sense and then asks if it makes sense
Oops LOL haha im glad it does
I found it harder to make friends :(
NicolesVlogs thank you so much! This really helped!
Srishti Khadilkar Ah im so glad it was helpful!☺️
UOFT MEMORIZE EVERYTHING
This is probably the worse one. You do require to memorize formulas and basic keys, but learning to adapt them into scenarios is probably the most important thing! :- )
Got accepted to UofT for Kin, but would MUCH rather go to Laurier or Western
iTzSpicey my bf did kin at uoft and it was difficult to say the least. He ended up graduating with high honours and was a top student from his graduating class. That being said, he managed to get into one PT masters program in Ontario (off the waitlist) mostly due to his gpa. However, it seems like uoft undergrad prepared him well since he is currently at the top of his class! If you’re planning to go to grad school or a professional program, go to an easier school because a high gpa at uoft might be a meh gpa somewhere else if you catch my drift 😅
wow i love that video!
I'm glad!
Hey I'm planning to join UoT in Fall 2020, and I'm planning to join Physical and Mathematical Sciences Program at New College. I was just wondering is the difficulty level really high for this program and is it true that the average grade at UoT is a C minus?
This was a great video btw, thanks for all the info:))
Sera 306 heyyy sorry but idrk too much about the math program or about the average thing.. i think ill have to wait and see how my future years go/talk to more ppl haha but congrats on your acceptance and thanks for watching!!
