Thanks for sharing your story. I can 100% relate to yours. I also went to uni after completing IB diploma in high school, and was very shocked from my GPA grades in my first year of uni. Anyway, thanks yoobin for telling your story to us, it really inspires and motivates a lot to me. I never shared about my story to others because I thought it’s very embarrassing. I would NOT advise a high school student to enter the Arts and Science program at U of Toronto. Grades should be proportional to how hard you work and that is not what happens at U of T. I had a professor in Biochemistry who gave an exam that he said would be multiple choice and short answer. However, when the test paper was handed out it was 3 major essays (nothing like he said it would be). Hi , Do you know about the ones program, for 1st year students? Would you recommend one to take it? What exactly do they do in the ones program? Is it an extra course /class from your classes??
Sorry, I'm not very familiar with this program, but I do know that it's a series of seminar based courses that focuses on many different disciplines. I think it would be a cool course to take to broaden your personal knowledge if you have the space for an elective in first year!
i think it might exist in some courses but i’ve never experienced it in any of mine. the only deflation that may be happening is the instructor changing the level of difficulty of exams to help keep the course average at an “average”. unfortunately i can’t speak about the grading schemes compared to other schools because i’ve only attended uoft.
Uoft I heard is pretty difficult so I heard, but if you got good time management and a good schedule you can do it. But maybe any other university other than uoft. Maybe YorkU i heard it’s not that bad also ryerson it really depends on what you want but uoft is pretty difficult.

WTF. So you took the MINIMUM FULL TIME COURSE LOAD...let's be real here, you grades were class average and NOT failure grades. Blah blah blah, covid hits...your marks jump high...duh, so did everyone's marks in high school and university. Me, cheat online...NO!!!! (crossing my finger). First year is always your best year. Second year is the worst and then you try and reach your first year marks...but for you, it seems covid happened just at the right time. LOL. Wish it happened back in 2007 for me. That online learning could of raised my GPA to a 4.0 instead it's a 3.4. All this time, I was thinking your were about to be put on academic suspension. You did fine girl, you just aren't medical school material but you did really well compared to what most UofT students consider 'bad'.
yeah i really liked the writing style open book tests during covid rather than the multiple choice for memorization. and you’re right, it wasn’t too bad but im just sharing how i overcame what felt like a big setback to me :)

I think it would be a cool course to take to broaden your personal knowledge if you have the space for an elective in first year!
there is this perception about how there is this big grade deflation at uoft and how hard it is. What do you have to say about this??
i think it might exist in some courses but i’ve never experienced it in any of mine. the only deflation that may be happening is the instructor changing the level of difficulty of exams to help keep the course average at an “average”. unfortunately i can’t speak about the grading schemes compared to other schools because i’ve only attended uoft.
Would you say that UofT courses are much more stressful than IB courses or are they about the same
Which uni would you suggest to apply to?
Uoft I heard is pretty difficult so I heard, but if you got good time management and a good schedule you can do it. But maybe any other university other than uoft. Maybe YorkU i heard it’s not that bad also ryerson it really depends on what you want but uoft is pretty difficult.
Caveat Emptor: Financial debt will hinder your options.
How did u go u of t was not full funded and what is expect from you
In Canada is too easy for us in china to get a 4.0 GPA we have to get at least 94%🥺
Nice
