    I took math and sciences all throughout high school and started my first year at UofT in the sciences. I was mainly in it because of familiarity and to please my parents but I was not passionate about it at all. So instead, I ended up enrolling in classes that interested me and I intended to switch majors the second year. Even though my first year felt incredibly difficult and lonely, I absolutely fell in love with what I was learning (like it literally would give my heart butterflies!). My favourite class was the SMC Cornerstones to Social Justice seminar and the most emotionally draining class I loved was POL101. I finished the year with a 4.0 and then switched to a Political Science degree at another university (whole other story!). Anyways, five years later and now I am headed to law school and living my dream! My first-year experience at UofT was a huge defining moment for me that I look back on fondly, and I know it will be for you too. You have the potential to excel at ANY subject, but your success will be so much more meaningful when you find that motivation and excitement from it! So do not be afraid to go after it even if it is something new. I am wishing you the best of luck on your journey and sending you positive vibes!

    As someone who just finished her 4th year at UofT, this video was so accurate and you provided some great tips!
    Although I would say, office hours are SO much better when they're one-on-one with your prof/TA! It's far less intimidating and most of the time the profs are very nice and understanding (at least in my experience). And another tip I would add is to make sure your profs know who you are! Especially if you're in upper year and planning on applying to grad school, it's so much easier to get a recommendation letter from a prof who knows you. But even as a first/second year student, if the prof knows you, chances are they are going to remember you!

As someone who went through the life sci program at St George, lot of what you touch on here would have been really helpful when starting out - especially on being open to switching subject posts. I just stumbled onto the channel and I gotta say I completely agree with the point where you said that nobody has their life together. I'm just finishing my first year at U of T (my last exam is today!) and I hardcore relate to a lot of the stuff you talked about. I took soc100 with Tepperman (and I think you did too based on your syllabus lol) but I simply did not vibe with it. I def feel like imposter syndrome is a huge thing at uni, especially at U of T - I'm minoring in Classical Civilizations and I feel SO dumb when I go to tutorials because I haven't had as much experience in classics. I also totally agree with taking first year seminars - I go to Vic but I was in St. Mike's One program and it was probably my favourite class in first year. I hope you get into the soc specialist and have a restful summer before we head back for second year (hopefully)!

    I was in your position 3 years ago Nicole dw. I'm in social sciences and also go to U of T St. George. It really stresses you out with what you want to do, how you want to change the path, and other things related to it. I was the same and it was so stressing and it is still stressing for me after 3 years. I am always anxious for any assessment that comes at me now. But I hope that you will be able to continue your other 3 years with passion and hopefully you are not stressed later on ❤🙏 Good luck with choosing your programs, majors or minors 2nd year and forward~~

    • @NicolesVlogs
      @NicolesVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think frosh is really chill like everyones trying to make friends so its not like weird to ask people for their snap or insta, and to just hang out with people u don't know too well and what not. Depending on your college, there are diff events and some are parties, but there are also just like floor parties or frat parties that happen during the week (i'm not the biggest partier though so i only sort of went to 1 that wasn't frosh run) There's tons of opportunity to meet people and just have a good time, it's all about how much u put yourself out there!

    Hi I love your videos! Thank you for making them. I also aim to apply to UofT next year, so do you maybe have tips on how to get in and the minimum requirements in terms of grades and community services etc... I’m not like a straight A student so do you think I have my chances to get in?

    • @NicolesVlogs
      @NicolesVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Emma M heyyy! Sooo itll rlly depend on the program u apply for, but for life sci there’s no supp app so they dont look at community service however doing community service is always super great just in general ahah and also it could help u apply for various awards or scholarships so i aways recommend doing alot :) In terms of grade, it will again depend on the year and program but dont be too discouraged if youre not straight A bc there will be programs that still accept as well as diff campuses have diff entrance averages so i recommend still applying! If you’re applying next year I’m assuming you’re in grade11, so I’d say theres still lots of time for u to try to raise your marks and im sure youre very much capable. It’s rlly all about work ethic so I recommend trying out diff study methods such as pomodoro method, to see what will help u stay focused and motivated! Sorry my answers kinda vague but Hope that helps🙌🏼🙌🏼 best of luck with everything!

As an int. student, I do believe it is somehow possible to get to UofT, but, for now, the tuition fees are just tremendously high for me. So need to figure out whether to complete college degree in Toronto and earn some money, so that I can afford it, or move back to my home country to study at university...Absolutely love Toronto, but I am so confused about my life right now...

There are campus groups specific to certain cultures or ethnicities so there will be opportunities to get involved and meet people! it's all about how much u put yourself out there :) the transition in terms of environment and culture might be difficult at first but I think if u remain open-minded and prepare yourself that it will be a change it'll hopefully be a good experience :) good luck with everything!

    Hey!!! i love ur videos, they’re really helpful! I’m in grade 11 starting to think about uni and UofT life sci is def one of my top choices! however, i’ve heard so many horror stories and it’s rlly making me nervous. I was just wondering what ur high school average was and what it is now in ur first year at Uoft? (if u don’t mind sharing) I just wanna have an idea of how university marks are cause everyone keeps saying it’s a drastic drop. I have a 94 average typically but i’m afraid that’s just not enough!! also, i am hoping to later attend medical school so i would need to keep up a very high gpa!

    • @NicolesVlogs
      @NicolesVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      kylie correia hey! Thanks for watching☺️☺️ glad its been helpful. Sooo my high school mark was similar to yours, Around mid 90, and my mark dropped around 10-15% id say (depending on course as of now but havent fully finished finals so idk my final mark) i do know the mark drop depends on each student bc everyone is coming from diff high school backgrounds and some high schools are harder than others to get good marks. Im sure you’ll be fine bc u seem like youre actively researching for unis so im guessing youre studious aha. I think its mainly about the work ethic though because in uni its just more work in shorter time so u need to develop good study habits (which is super helpful if ur able to do that in highschool) :) hope that helps!

It’s possible to not only take the usual life sci courses but also courses totally unrelated to sciences, eg commerce courses right? • @NicolesVlogs
      @NicolesVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Victoria Hung hi there! There’s definitely pros and cons of both campuses. I do know that St geroge is more research focused while like u said Scarborough has co-op, so it depends on what u think is more important for you! There definitely is opportunity to do get involved in work at st. George though it may not be co-op, you can do ROP, or work study. I think also depends on what kind of setting you want. St. George is in the city so theres alot more going on in terms of events or opps outside of school too. But Scarborough seems like theres a stronger community aspect. • @NicolesVlogs
      @NicolesVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm honestly I didn't do any preparation additionally to what I learned in high school and it wasn't like TOO bad, but it DEFINITELY would help with dealing with the workload. Even just knowing what you learned in grade 12 really really well, reviewing it, understanding it perfectly can be really helpful because often times I found that I got stuck on things that I had just skimmed over in high school that I didn't bother to fully understand. though I don't think its like mandatory to do this prep (as I didn't haha) it doesn't hurt to be more prepared. I don't really know any resources particularly for uoft courses sorryyy maybe check reddit lol
