    another pro is that uoft has so many work-study/on-campus job opportunities from research assistant, to tour guides, to administrative work and more! it’s not only a academic focused environment but also has a focus on making money while in uni and getting more experience!

      You don’t join, you apply. It’s highly selective! I knew I wanted smaller class sizes to ease myself into university, plus I liked the prestige of being part of that type of program. The Vic One History and Political Science stream was exactly what I thought my majors would be, which is why I did it.

    Hey I am applying for Humanities (focusing on history) at UofT St. George for fall ‘24. Do you remember when you received your acceptance to UofT? I applied quite early in November and I feel like I have a pretty competitive average but I haven’t got anything back yet. Also have you enjoyed history at the University? Thanks so much!

      Hiiiii, I heard back late February! I do know some people who heard back in late January, so I wouldn't worry at all as it seems they send them out at different times depending on where you're from and when you applied maybe. And your second question - I have enjoyed studying history so much, I've taken so many interesting history courses from Latin American history in the national period (rather than the colonial period), Vietnam at war (from the French presence to current day), law and history courses (Crime and Punishment in Early Modern Europe has been my favourite thus far), and a class on historiography in my first year, just to name a few!

And yeah, as a commuter, you won't get the full Trin vibes, but you'll still be part of the community. Make sure you go to Orientation!!!!! Hey this is Nasheta from Bangladesh.
    I got into UofT in Trinity at St George for fall’24
    I am someone who is not comapatible in crowds and also have strict financial obligations. And as far as I have heard that St George has classes with students like 1000 or more 🥹 that’s quite overwhelming
    I got the 100K international merit scholarship in UofT and also got 100k Dean’s scholarship at Queen’s.
    I am very much confused which uni should I go for 😭?! Please help me out!
    I have heard UofT is depressing specially St George and is very hard to maintain gpa.

    • @bela.at.trinity
      @bela.at.trinity  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Nasheta, congrats on getting such amazing offers!
      In terms of classes with a 1000 kids, I haven't heard of this, but sciences do tend to have huge classes so that is something to expect. UofT will give you a better education and more opportunities, I myself chose it over Queen's. However, if you aren't a fan of crowds, I'm not sure you're going to thrive in a big city like Toronto. Queen's is in a smaller city/town that is much calmer. It also has a much smaller international student population and is not multicultural like Toronto.
      Every person has a different experience at UofT and I could not be happier with my choice, but some hate it. It really depends on what you study and you as a person. Hope that helps in some way :)

      I can relate to you in so many ways becuz I have also been a high school topper and it’s kinda depressing when I see people like me say that after getting into UofT you can fail as well ( It’s daunting to me for another reason is that I can loose my scholarship if I don’t maintain my gpa 😭)
      I’ll be doing astrophysics major and will work hard if it takes but my concern is , is it true that it’s pretty hard to build connections with professors at UofT since students are just like a number in those huge classrooms which makes it hard to clear your concepts?

    Excellent video. Hmmm. LOL. You managed to insult my two cities. Hello from lovely OTTAWA. Proud to be born in la belle ville de MONTREAL. When I was a student in the 1980s, there were only two choices for me, prestige-wise. U of T and McGill. In those days, Mcgill was referred to as the "Princeton of the north". In my mind, it was at least as prestigious as U of T. But, I HATE completing forms, in those days, paper. So, I although I kept glancing at the U of T application package on my table, I knew I would get into McGill, so let the deadline for U of T pass. McGill, it would be, I thought. Also, my father had studied at McGill. I was also living in Montreal at the time. Luckily, I was accepted to McGill and studied poli sci as prep for my plans to eventually go to law school. Ironically, I did do my MA in poli sci at U of T later in life (after a few years doing nothing jobs and during a period when I was taking the LSAT many times). I enjoyed the more focused MA studies much, much more. I would not advise anyone to follow this one application strategy for undergrad these days. Waaaay too much competition. My son applied for math with the intention to apply for a stats POSt once at U of T, knowing he would also want to study history. Thus, a double major in stats and history. He applied for history at McGill . I thought it would be easy admission to McGill . I wanted him to balance what I thought would be a more competitive admission process for a STEM subject - math -at U of T. Although tagged as a math kid , his true passion is history. He had exceptional grades in high school in history and 5 in AP history. Not so. He got rejected for McGill. I was thinking .... 'WTF.!!!!!!!?????.. Surely, it is an easier admission process for history at McGill than a STEM program at U of T , I thought. I felt bad as I had advised him. This type of thinking is erroneous. In retrospect, I can only guess at the reasons why he was not accepted at my alma mater. Perhaps there are more "I hate math. I suck at math " types, leading to humanities/ social science programs being more competitive due to more applications. He did not apply to other Canadian universities. Luckily, he got into U of T (to Trinity no less. You are right. BEAUTIFUL). I hear your Ivy League story. He applied to several Ivy Leagues colleges , but only ones that are "needs blind" i.e do not consider ability to pay/income in making admission decisions and normally offer funding for all those accepted, regardless of nationality. Rejected for: Princeton, Yale, University of Pennsylvania and .. even Cornell (advice, apply "early admission" to Cornell as opposed to Yale for better chance of acceptance to an Ivy League). It bothered me more than him, these Ivy League rejections. But as you noted, everything works out in the end. Although he go a 4.0 GPA in first year and made the history POSt, he struggled due to mental health challenges. He has established his supports at Trinity and in TO. It would have been AGONIZING if I had to sit here , in Ottawa, and worry about his health with him studying across the border. As it is, we are going to visit him in mid-February. Easy 4.50 train ride away from Ottawa.

      I'm not sure I would say I insulted them, they are lovely in their own ways, but as I said, they were just not for me. To each their own! My mother was a student in the 80s as well and it was McGill, McGill, McGill for top-notch Canadian education. It is an excellent school, it just seems like I turned out to be a Toronto girl at heart!

      @bela.at.trinity I meant that tongue in cheek. I was happy my son ended up at U of T. Although quite shocked that he did not get into Mcgill, U of T was my first choice for him. Now, with all this stuff going on about tuition for out of province students, McGill will, sadly, not be in the top choices for many.
