I think that it would be best before getting intimate with someone to let them know if you are trans, NOT for fear or danger of reprisal, but because there's less chance of hurt feelings on either side. It's NOT an excuse to harm someone, but it makes sense to discuss it before getting sexual.

I see plenty of these kind of tragic endings, and usually the accused found out way too late in the relationship, or meeting that the person they were talking to was actually not a woman. Just say when the flirting begins that you are trans, because if you are proud of who you are (as you should be, like we all should trans, straight, in between etc), then you should have no problem saying it when someone is flirting with you.

Sadly I still veered in a terrible direction but I've been sober now for 32 years. 24:31 Well that’s a beautiful sentiment. But. It’s such a shame that Lisa’s drive “to do right by her child” didn’t kick in earlier, ie while her child was alive and spiraling. *My comment is NOT based on the matter of transgender status.. we can remove that factor from my point entirely.* Because her child, trans or not, was clearly struggling and on a very destructive path as a school suspended, violent fighting, shot 6 times, teenage METH addict for goodness sakes. Red flags were a-flying and gave Lisa multiple opportunities to “do right by her child”.
    This is beyond tragic.

Nikki had an addiction to meth, had been suspended from school numerous times for fighting and being violent. Nikki’s mother should have been more concerned with what she was up to and tried harder to keep her out of trouble. I feel if Nikki had been upfront about being trans, she may still be alive today. Also if she was on drugs and a violent person, it’s hard to really discern what actually happened. I’m not saying murdering someone is okay, especially just because of how they identify. But if someone was high on meth and attacking you, that IS self defense.

Regardless of her addiction, the parenting she received or didn’t, her revealing her identity that night DOESN’T give anyone the right to end her life solely because she was trans. Everyone saying, “well she should’ve told him before.” “This is why you tell people before.” Of course she should have done that, but she didn’t and she’s gone; even if she did it doesn’t mean this still couldn’t have happened.
