Dude gives a tour of his home-built turbo-ed Golf, explained how he strengthened its faults through trial and error, then rips through Germany's most famous public racecourse passing fabled Porsches at will. that being said - that first Porsche was out of Range for him until whose Driver was slowing down. Plus the ones he actually passed by with ease where driven by Rookie Drivers wich would not risk their cars for a Race ..

I must have watched a different video.. I see a maxed out golf 2, racing to the max and a few Porsches he overtakes and a few that keep being in front and behind him, probably not driven to the max and way more comfortable. That's not eating Porsches, that's winning a race without telling the others it was one.
@@ruez2kill it starts with a golf 2 costing around 1000 bucks, next to nothing. Parts and time+effort are the factor here, cost not so much.. but then again this is a Golf 2 and not a Porsche, nor will it ever perform like a porsche.
To build such a monster is an impressive thing. To then drive it at the limit so smoothly is next level stuff and the guy is so humble you can't help but root for him and his little giant killer. What a machine!
You can tell he is a good engineer. But also a great driver aswell! He knows the thing inside and out, literally. :D

Before he started recording he asked me to talk a little about the Golf. As usual I talked, a lot 😳. I expected him to cut 90% of it out as it was just me waffling. He left most of it in!
The lap itself was very enjoyable and the Porsche driver had a good chat with me that evening. When I asked why he moved across before the Karussel, he replied "I was surprised to see you keeping up with me and rather than watch in the mirror I wanted to follow so I could see your car moving around" 😃
The Golf has been developed over the last 13 years from a bare shell with me learning along the way and modifying as budget allowed.
Just to add to those who are saying the 911 was faster. I know, the Porsche could go quicker. We all know that ! It also costs way more than 10x the price the Golf has cost me and wasn't built by one guy in his garage so lets keep some perspective here 😉
As for Boba`s incredible MK2 Drag car, that`s built with one aim in mind and that`s to go as fast as possible in a straight line for a short period of time. Mine is built to go round a circuit for lap after lap and those goals are completely different. Put them on the drag strip and Boba would absolutely annihilate me. Put us on the Nurburgring and I'd be quicker. It's not rocket science ;)
Oh and finally. The whine is the power steering pump that was failing and was replaced after this trackday and I usually leave the engine idling to cool after a lap but was distracted by Misha and turned it off too soon.

That is the best footage of the ring I have ever seen. The camera panning around the corners really made the experience that much better for me. 10/10 from me.
This really is an exceptional video. As you mentioned, the pans around the corners along with the image being stabilized, made this the most realistic trip around the ring I remember. I've got my feet up and watching on a laptop, and I realized I was braking and pushing the accelerator as I watched. I'm going to watch it again.

The car went so smoothly around the corners that it took me a while to notice that the speedo was actually in MPH instead of km/h.

The speedo has both km/h and mph.
@@reefhog That's right. And it also has clear km/h numeric output in the middle. However, if you just gimpse it and look at the dial pointing the numbers with most emphasis, you're looking at MPH display. That's the mistake I first made.
My first car was a mk2, 1.6 cl, had so much fun with that car. Bought a rusted GTi and moved over all the GTi parts, got it approved, went through 4 engines, 3 gearboxes, 3 interiors. Got a set of knackered 10x16 compomotive 3 piece wheels from a Porsche 928, restored them and made them fit the golf.
8 years later, using the inspiration and knowledge i got from that car, started a wheel repair and restoration company in Oslo, still going strong today.
I owe everything to that little car and loved the heck out of this video! Thanks♥️

Absolutely amazing rendition of the GOLF 2. It's so cool to see a car that isn't just a bunch of bolt-on parts from a manufacturer. There is nothing wrong with that as all upgrades are respectable in that regard, however, seeing something like this car that has been engineered and tested and upgraded so well by the owner is fantastic. Thanks for sharing this vid.

I have to admit I skipped the intro the first time. Then I read a few comments, watched the whole thing from the beginning and appreciated it so much more. Because now I seemed to understand so much better what kind of car or project this is. The amount of time and love that went into it are amazing, and also the owner is very likable. That was great, always good to see a man use his skills determination and passion to turn the ordinary into something very special, loved seeing the car and having everything explained and the lap was just good fun. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing, cheers 4 that ;).
The driver...he's the Porsche eater - his persistence and push was amazing. Stayed on it.
The brakes were failing the heavier Porsche in the later tight turns. Easier for the VW to pass at late braking stages.

This is tits. I love how enthusiastic he is with it as well. When he said the splitter used to hit the floor at 150, my first thought was, wait a golf 2 doing 150 mph? At that moment I knew this was gonna be seriously cool.
Vmax at the Nurburgring is 163mph on the GPS. A Golf MK2 isn't the most aerodynamic car in the world 🤪 so I'm pretty pleased with that!

Is it still road legal or do you have to always go to track days instead of tf? I imagine in Germany it isn't, but back in the UK you can drive it on the road still?
@@Zygersaf If its road legal in the UK you are allowed to drive it in germany. There was a case of a brit in a (roadlegal) light tank crossing germany and all the police did was escorting him. That will change with Brexit though as its no longer road legal in an EU country.
@@Zygersaf it is insured, mot and taxed so I can drive it on the road. But honestly, it's just for shaking it down and checking it's OK . It's not comfortable at all!

Guys, I'm disappointed! After watching several of Mishas recent videos, I keep seeing comments asking for data overlays. I convinced him to put the overlay on that I created from my datalog and nobody has commented 😂

I would like to say that differently.
I love watching these Frankenstein builds over watching the endless stream of supercar content on TH-cam. In my opinion, hand build nuggets like fx the Up!, the Škoda and this Golf are relatable and far more unique. That also reflects in the amount of views.
Most off his vlog's are off those car's you don't like,90% expensive car's, then odd car like this 👍

bcs its a 2.0 V16 its better than the VR6 engines (yeah the sound is better in a VR6) but 2.0 V16 is powerfull and you cant destroy the 2.0 V16

I really appreciate this car build. One man on a very modest budget (for car standards) built himself a machine that can put moneyed pretenders to shame. A man in a garage with a hammer taken to the extreme.

Brilliant bit of development of a humble car by a proper petrolhead-tremendous work Nigel, I love it. I have never driven the Nurburgring-but I have ridden round it on a Ducati and it ain’t an easy circuit to learn-but you obviously really know it-great car, great driver.
Respect, well earned. Even by Porsche drivers. Love the comment 10x less cost than the factory Porsches, 10x more initiative, 10x more fun and hard- work-for-the-love-of-it achievement. And a Porsche beater all day long for that.
Not only does he drive it like the Police are chasing him, forcing Porsche's to move over is a real giggle. The noises and bumps (and probably smells) remind me of my old pals MK11 Escorts they raced up back in the early 80's. Real old skool, happy days Nige (you nutter)!!!!! I'm still smiling!
The VW is a great build with so much potential but the Porsche let him pass so he can follow him, the VW gave the Porsche a great run but a the end, The Porsche flew by him at the last straight, still a great car, he mentioned that only produce 440 hp, he can get a better engine with 800 hp and leave the Porsche away but that much power is more dangerous than fun, AND fun is all about, I wish I could own it and live nearby and race it every weekend, that will make me the most happiest man on earth
One of the best things he did was leave the Golf CL badge on it.

AND, yes, without the 'extra passenger' - he MIGHT have caught up with the Porsche...wow, and WOW again!

Thank you! I am pretty proud of what I've achieved. Sure, I've made mistakes along the way but I've learned from every single one and ended up with a MK2 Golf that comfortably laps sub 8 btg and is great fun to drive.

Imagine, you've just dropped six figures on your hot new GT3RS track toy and decide to take a tour of a the Ring to celebrate your purchase.
You get out on track with this funny old VW hatch right on your heels as you accelerate down the back end of the straightaway and into the first section.
"Heh, that's cool, guy must've thrown a turbo on it. Mighty quick, but I'll show him REAL German engineering come the first corner."
And so with all the confidence that a big wing and the reputation of the crest can provide, you dive into the first few corners, not a sound coming from your tires as you casually throw it in somewhere in the middle of the rev range with a grin and an easy flick of the wrist. Suddenly, you hear the howl of four cylinders using every last centimeter of the RPM gauge, the squealing of tires and the screeching protest of brakes accompanied by the whining of bodywork being rubbed raw by the asphalt. You look back and in your mirror is that same funny little hatch, glued to your ass and looking for your left.
With a contemptuous snarl, you mash the throttle and hit the course with everything you have; and while you might gain separation in the straights, for some reason this 30 year old little VW is pressing one of the most fabled factory track machines. And eventually, you have to cave, the blinker comes on and that funny little hatch screams by; try as you might, the only time you're able to get around the little VW again is in a drag race on the back straight, something completely out of the element of the dethroned German king of the track

Nothing comes close to this guy who set the world water speed record in 1978 with his backyard-built boat - a record that HAS NEVER BEEN BEATEN even thoughit is now 2020!!!!!

all racecars are like that and drift cars and rally cars.. they are all complete dogs until you are doing what they are made to do, i have a e36 that i have loads of money into and explaining to a chick you picked up that having no door cards, sound deadening, the screeching of the welded diff and the bone braking suspension is all in the name of improving the car hahahah then you do a few skids with them and the quality ones get it xD

I’ve built a 400+bhp mk2 cl in 2014. Thing scared everyone that dared to join me on the passenger seat. It wasn’t built as a dedicated race car though. Sold it 2 years ago. Still miss it sometimes. Mental car.
