Sweet Psoas Release

- There are a number of modalities to release the psoas muscle including massage, manual manipulation, somatics, Neurogenic Yoga and TRE; I find this method to be the most accessible, pleasurable and exceptionally successful. The psoas muscle (or muscles - there are 2), are the deepest muscles of the human body affecting structural balance, muscular integrity, flexibility, strength, joint mobility, breathing and organ function. As a muscle, the main job is to support the spine and balance the pelvis on the legs. But this muscle is more electrical and fluid than bio-mechanical. Attaching to the middle spine at the same place as the diaphragm, the health of the psoas is influence by the breath (and visa-versa). It also responds to stress by creating the primitive startle and fear response in the body. Sitting too much puts the psoas in a state of contraction, limiting its fluidity and ability to release.
You will need a slo-mo ball, playground ball, or some type of vessel that holds air, is approximate 6-8" and your spine can "float" on. (If no ball is available, I tested a gallon size zip lock bag from the quarantine prop kitchen with success!)

I feel so incredibly relaxed! Thank you Megan. I have been doing so much to heal my body;yoga;Pilates; weights; to no real progress. Your classes have been incredible for me. Allowing myself to enjoy the movement instead of having a type A response to getting a good yoga or strength Pilates in. I am being patient with myself. I was hoping I could do a private consult with you. I am from South Africa! Would love for you to come here and visit. We live close to the Kruger National Park. Come and visit and teach ❤
That is an amazing invitation and thank you. Perhaps some day…you are doing just what you need for yourself and it doesn’t have to look or feel like anything, except what it is. Bless you for that self knowledge and compassion. I am available for private yoga therapy on zoom. (And this is one of my all time favorite practices!) I used to do it several times a week. 🙏
Thank you for your care and wisdom in curating this work for us all. Truly nourishing and so much to explore in this. I can't wait to do it again. I think this may become my default practice for stress release. 💓
Thank you for sharing your positive experience. Subtle but deep in my experience. I had a ritual
For awhile where I would do this practice on every full moon 🌕 🙏
Megan, i just found you today and watched your low back and psoas release right before this one. I'm crying so hard from the release. I have so much trauma stored up and so thankful to have found you! You are so calming, gentle and compassionate! I needed all of it! Thank you so much! I saved a bunch of your videos!
Dear Stacie, thanks for finding me and connecting. This is my favorite approach to work with psoas and such a gentle way to explore ourselves on the inside. I am happy to help. Peace, Megan
@MeganMacCarthy ohhhhhhhhhhhh girl, you are saving my life! I had such great anxiety last night and had insomnia so listened to your 2nd meditation video on loop from 2am till 5 am! Your precious calming loving comforting voice allowed me to relax and sleep finally!!! Will watch more videos tonight! Bless your beautiful heart and mind!!! Love you!!! 🪹🍄🐥🦋🥀🥀🌼💃🥳🧘♀️🫡♥️😘🙏👣🌻😊🍃🌺🪷🪺🍁🧚😇

Dear Megan, I found this yoga ‘exercise’ (you may hardly call it exercise as it is so gentle and calm) and it really moved me. Your directions are easy to follow. Thank you for warning us that it is not a competition 😉. I feel a bit emotional right now, but I guess that is okay. Thank you so much.
Hi Barbara, i appreciate you sharing a bit about your experience of what I like to call a practice. The smallest movements can create the greatest healing. Peace and light, Megan
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the contribution and connection. I did this one on the full moon for years… which was yesterday 🌝
Thank you for this very beautiful class❤
I just felt so beautifully relaxed by the end of this class and then about an hour later I completely withdrew into myself and felt very emotional. I am still feeling it now ( 3hours later )
Dear Jane, enjoy the relaxation and replenish yourself. This is one of the most intimate practices I do for myself 🙏
Dear Megan, I did 3 days in a row of exploring both psoas and neck & shoulders with a few of your videos, and as I always have been everytime I explored with somatic movement, I find myself fascinated with the shift! However, last night I went to visit a friend I hadn't seen in a while and his cat Gaïa 😉 has never come towards ANYONE, yet, last night, she actually climbed up on me as I was expressing with my friend and getting teary. I got a whole body 30°F increase that started in my SOULar Plexus, I literally got sweaty after 5 minutes. And overnight, I woke up because all of a sudden I felt like I had gotten punched in my abdomen. I have never felt my abs being so tight...
I attribute this to the body/subconscious mind resisting change. This body has experienced doing Ironman triathlon 3X, last one was in 2017 and since then it's been quite the multidimensional dance!
Would this inspire you to talk about or bring up SOULutions for the resistance to change, because of PTSD? Would I just incorporate Vagus Nerve exercises and/or breathing techniques?
My inner fires are still quite easily triggered in unmanaged ways although I've been fully immersed in "spiritual healing path" for 12 years... That feeling of having been punched was extraordinarily eventful...
✨🙏I hope all is well with you Sweet Soul🕊️🌹
Thanks for sharing; cats energy systems are from outer space! How are you now? I don’t feel qualified to speak specifically to your situation. I only know from my own experience that the most subtle way to my healing was through breath and meditation. But I also believe the body will only respond when it is ready. Congrats on your Iron Man’s; such an amazing feet for body and mind 🙏
@@MeganMacCarthy oh God! I accept your congratulations, but applied to my recovery from Ironman! Hahaha... And for Day 7 of no more smoking! Pure heART qualification is all we need😉🙏💝e-turn-ALL Gratitude💫

@@MeganMacCarthy i´m brazilian and live in istanbul and your classes give me a wonderful support in relation to the language and images to be able teach in english, thanks!!!
It makes me happy to know that. Thanks Tisi!
Thank you so much! I cried a lot in 3 of the areas we worked on. How often can we do this exercise? Is everyday too much? Thanks again🌺❤️
Thank you for your heartfelt share. This is a gentle expression of release and can be done every day if you wish. Be kind and curious XO Megan
❤
Totally relaxing for my mind and body!!
Thank you!
I love your work and soma yoga. I cant seem to find the type of ball you are using. all of the slo mo balls are not able to inflate with blowing into them. would you have a more specific link? thanks again for your great work.
Thanks for commenting and for your support on Patreon. I can no longer find the Slo-mo balls but the closest thing to them that can be blown up with mouth/straw is the overball. I assume you are in the US in which case there are online school supply stores that carry them. ☮️
Hi Meagen! I’m loving your videos thanks so much for your dedication! Just curious- where can I get the ball you have in the video? I can’t seem to find it on Amazon. Thanks so much!
Hi Char, if you are in the states, you can get them from Amazon as the overball. They also carry them at some online school supply stores, but that is more in quantity. Presents for friends?! Peace, Megan
Thanks so much Megan!

I've just done this one for the first time and I burst out crying at a particular part, does this happen? Xx
Hi Laura, yes, you are not alone. I did this one once a week for a long stretch and find it very therapeutic physically and emotionally. Peace to you 💜
