- Gen 3 Levo is Specialized's latest Turbo Levo electric mountain bike. Here we have all the detail in full including geometry, suspension, mastermind TCU, extra water proofing and build details.
I met up with D.A. from Specialized UK for a ride and chat about everything Gen 3 Levo.

Soooooooooo much better video than embn, far better Specialized representative too. Love the detail and the why. All they need to do is a aluminium comp at around £5800.
2023 now and the Expert trim msrp is $11 K. They had it on sale for $8250 so I thought that sounded more reasonable as I wasn't about to drop $11 K. They didn't have my size in the Expert so I tested the S-Works and fell in love with the upgrades and lighter weight. Kind of feels like a different bike than the lower trim levels.Wasn't going to drop $11K now willing to pay $14200 on sale. I must be crazy but I'm old enough to get the best before my time is up.

Great video. I would buy it if I have the money. Current kenevo owner, I am very happy with 27.5 wheels, motor and 64 degree slack head tube angle. My bike is not the best for trail riding but a beast for down hill and jumps.
Good job Rob. I have some idea for You for the future bike reviews. Will be nice to get info about shock stroke, it's very important for heavier riders.

Another informative video 👍 and as much as I like the look of the geometry and the adjustability, by far the biggest talking point since its launch is the price (and predicted price for lower spec models). I can't help but think that specialized have shot themselves in the foot by alienating their existing and potential customer base.
Hi great video, I am waiting for my S3 levo comp carbon to be delivered. $6750 USD in the online winter sale. Now back up to $9k, couldn't resist my first e bike from a alloy comp epic which I love. I wanted to get my wife out more the new sizing means the S3 will fit her 5'4" and also me 5'10". So when she's out I'll be on my epic and when I'm out with my mate we will be on e bikes he's just bought a Obea H15. So it's his fault that I have pulled the trigger on the levo🤣.

Wow , amazing bike and great video but even the dentists 🦷 will think twice with those prices.
Had mine for four days and I have ridden it every day. For what it is worth I have ridden it hard and got it wet and it seems much better around water ingress. I clean and air blow the area and intuitively more water is blown out and I can tell the motor is sealed much better. On that basis it could be called a masterpiece. Berkshire turbo complete the equation and there is no better lbs
wow, you have really low standards if a masterpiece is a bike with a sealing port.
@@eugenux Yes I see your point on re reading it! the bike is a masterpiece and the if the motor is as protected as it seems to be it will remove one of the main headaches with the previous generation. The sum of the parts makes it a great bike no question

The thing is, why do you have to care for it like this? A motocross bike costing the same amount wouldn’t need all that care and, btw, before someone else says it, the weight penalty of keeping things working in the wet is very little different in said motocross bike. Oh, I know they sell more of the motocross bikes, but that accounts for all the other stuff on the bike. It absolutely does not account for it being perfectly fine being ridden at 30mph through deep mud-filled ruts...
You just don’t have to blow-dry a motocross bike, although I will admit Berkshire Bike’s advice in Rob’s vid in 2019 is excellent. Sadly it didn’t protect my 2020 Levo, but that’s another story.

Decathalon Stilus 2020 + brand new Honda CB125R + an full motorcycle training and gear and enough left over to trade in the 125 and buy full size or get a normal priced ebike on top.

Try this. Just change your suspension to custom tuned DVO Onyx in the front and DVO Topaz in the rear and change the tires to Maxxis Assegai. This combo has made me the fastest I have ever ridden up or down technical and fat single track. Also consider decreasing your cranks down to 155mm with Merida. Super stable, fast and playful. Leave the flip in the low for speed and stability. Do this if you want to eek a couple more years out of your last model Turbo Levo and like the dual 29” combo. Just a thought.

Hey Rob, great video as always 👍 I know your taking a bit of time out but do you know if the rear triangle/chainstay is interchangeable with the gen2 ? It’s the only gripe I have with my gen2 would love it to be a bit more nimble and would be great if I could swap out the rear triangle.
Nice video as always Rob. I'd like to see the plugs going into the motor. Have they improved on those? What about the hole at the back off the motor, where the loam finds it's way in. Have they sealed it.
Yes, what about the motor blanking plugs and the other end of the TCU cable where it joins the motor?

Cheers! Yes. Can turn the brightness down or off (I think with it off it just displays battery level)
Great video. Would be good to see that battery port cover and new motor cable available as upgrade for older bikes/batteries as it looks like it would be compatible for gen 2 levo? (would also mean could use old battery on new levo when I eventually buy one!)

These bikes are starting to get too expensive for Dentists. Yesterday, a friend, who is a dentist,t told me he would love the S-Works version of the new Levo but wasn't sure if he could afford the $15,000USD. He griped, "You have to be a doctor or a lawyer to afford one".
@@martinschwartz7342 I can afford one if I settle for a cheap car! Biggest mistake of my life was buying new car. Bloody sales men and snobby neighbours! I think its kinda pleasing just not to play the keeping up with neighbours game. Can be old golf rather than a fancy BMW which you worry about getting scratched and have to keep clean. Still probably just a dream! Think I'm too mean to get anything else than the Comp model!

@@darrenrobson1562 of course you can buy a car... but you have to pay other fees on that.. cars don't run by pedaling them and there are so many other expenses to pay, so the comparison is quite lame... high end bikes aren't cheap there are entry/mid level models more affordable, surely will be heavier and perform less but surely everyone can distinguish the difference riding them? I don't think so...

Very nice bike, good looks and lots of niggles now removed/sorted .... Ya No .... its still a long way off the TREK 9.9 XTR. Going back to the stump jumper, it was the NUTS but still TREK's Y33 took the show ... specialised need to go the extra mile, I am not sure what it is thats missing, BUT they need to up their game to take the top bike for me.

Specialized have done a great job on this bike. I’m pleased they haven’t tried to lighten it. Keep full fat ebikes full fat!
Keeping the divergence between this and the SL/lighter half power bikes Is the right way to go.
The new motor casing and improved waterproofing around the power lead is very well designed.
Personally I’ll be keeping my GEN 2 bike for a few more years yet, it’s still a fantastic bike.
I’ve already fitted the 700 w/h battery and a wireless dropper and I’ve got the new GX AXS wireless shifter and controller coming this week.
Might swap out the rear for a 27.5” but I like the all round ability of 29/29 and it suits the kind of riding I do.
I’ll definitely be fitting the mastermind TCU when Specialized make them available.
The one change I thought Specialized might do is to offer a plug in range extender like the SL.
A 300 w/h bottle battery extender would’ve given the option of 1 kw/h for all day epic rides.

Great to see they have made strides to stop water ingress and beef up cables - shame they screw existing owners for new cables and motors - hoping that the new prices are so high so they can start funding discounts on gen 1 replacement parts 🤣😂🤣

i changed from mtb to emtb in 2019 and get myself the Levo Comp Carbon. After a cut in the head tube frame i get a new 2022 Levo Expert carbon from specialized for warranty. i´m super happy about that. thank you specialist. After the first testride i can hear a sound , maybe plastic to plastic , when it gets in uneven terrain. Maybe the cables inside the frame or battery fitting.

We let you choose S sizing except we tell you what dropper size you get and if its wrong you have to buy a new one which on that bike is £600!
Good point - which bike brands allow you to specify a dropper length as that could be useful?

GREAT innovations as well as **VITAL* incremental improvements !! Because of these improvements I have been looking VERY close at eMtbs, and did 11 test rides recently. YES: I'm very impressed. Personally, I'm looking forward to these great ideas being rolled out to the more affordable models. When that happens I will pull the trigger for sure. I have the money for the top end bike, but the bang per buck still isnt there. I have a strong preference for mtn biking over MC, but at these prices the eMtb better do an excellent job of replacing my ktm
How about a navigation app for the new tcu that prompts the rider with direction arrows? Perhaps linked to a smartphone for increased gps accuracy and ease of downloading routes?
Hi Rob. I am your height(193cm). I am more arms than legs, having an inseam of 83cm. After experiencing the S5 sized Levo, would you recommend the S5 or the S6 for me? Thanks.
Love that they have now fitted a crap flap as standard. I have had a home made version of that on my Levo since I bought it and it works really well!
I have 1.5 years left on my motor warranty so if it "blows up" it should get replaced with with a fully sorted 2.2

have they sorted out the dodgy TCU connectors yet, I have a 2021 SL expert and the advice was 'some people wrap them in tape', love the bike but I recon they can do a bit better than that...

Can i change the 700er battery with a Gen2 500er battery by only exchange the plastic cage?
That charging door is in the firing line for rock impacts. Bottoming the bike out. The charging door needs to be higher.. Also open the door to many times it will snap. Not a proper hinge.
can you have extra range extender battery to this levo s-works 2022?
Why the 12 speed transmission, and huge rear sprocket? This just looked to cause massive chain slap and make no sense when you consider the smaller rear wheel. Otherwise, a very mild evolution. Great review by Rob, now he needs to put it up against the Whyte 160RS.

Very professional set up and production values Rob. Looked at some of your earlier content. Like night and day mate. Would like to see you critique products more though. If you don't offer an informed alternative opinion you are merely indicating agreement. My question: for £13k+ is this package really worth it? this review did not answer that.

Does anyone know how this bike differs in Japan? I live in Japan, and I was told that the motor and battery are different.
Hopefully the availability of a new motor and replacement parts will help us who can afford to buy this used on craigslist in 5 years.
Looks great but 13K for a mountain bike puts it beyond anything most of us can afford. I'll wait for the aluminium framed bikes and by then we'll no doubt have info from the s work owners regarding the motor and if specialized have sorted all the issues they had with the previous gens.

that's a proper stick that hold the bike. I never seen that before. At the price the bike costs, maybe the stick is also included :)

Is the X2 tuned for this bike I am 215 lbs and have a DPX on my levo now and running at 295 psi watching all your videos which I love I heard th x2 needs even more air to get correct sag. seems like a lot of pressure. With I think its max is 250 PSI. I know your 6"3' like my self.
I’m at 270 psi pretty sure Max is 300 psi. Yes it’s rx tuned for this bike
How much motor noise is included in the price. The first gen was quiet. I still ride one. The second gen was too noisy for a bicycle and after two months I returned it and was refunded. Now nobody likes to talk about the noise in their reviews!
I have the Gen 2 Levo that I love and I would like the new features of this one, but for this price I just can't even imagine spending 2x what my Levo costs.. I am thinking about buying a new vehicle and that is $16,000 when a bike costs almost that much that is absurd. When are we going to stop with the prices going up and up.. I would love to upgrade to the Gen 3 but I am NOT about to spend $12k on a damn bike.

the sizing system they are describing doesnt work. As tall rider i need more than just longer reach. I need higher stack i need steaper seat angle (cos my seat post is longer) and preferably a bit longer chain stay.
They’re taking all the suspension and swingarm design queues from dirtbikes and incorporating them to a mountain bike; all the way down to the rubber roost pad on the inside of the swingarm (chain stay and seat tube area for the pedaling folk).
Sick price.

The amount of advertising and TH-camrs pushing this bike down our throats is sad. It is not worth that money. I’m not saying people won’t buy it…I’m just saying we let them take us to the cleaners.

that was my thoughts, although i'd want to fit it to a 2020 Levo SL. I am currently using the specialized screen to read the cadence which I find useful. like rob I really like the integrated look.
