Why doesn’t he (god) answer the prayers of those suffering horrible atrocities in which he has the power to intervene, but chooses to answer menial requests such as helping us to raise funds at a church car wash, or to win at a sporting competition?
The "Big Questions" show is one of the best in the world! because of this beautiful platform that brings people from different prospectives into a beautiful discussion. However, at the end of the day, we (simple knowledge people) look for something that can benefit us and not just listening to people with a closed minds and solid mindset, who just present thier views and rejects others firmly! I would suggest to choose people who have studied different religions, prospectives, field ... etc, and can present valuable thoughts which can make people enjoy the difference and get along with each other, by agreeing on what is common, logic and rational! I like this quote: "Faith without science is blind. And science without faith is lame!". Religion has to agree with science always, because religion urges people to learn. And science can be enriched and have beautiful meaning by understanding and explaining all the mysterious aspects of a religion. For example, instead of searching into whether prayers work or not, let us (both people of faith and atheist/scientists) study why prayers existed and what its impact on human health, psychology or any kind of changes that happens to body/brain cells during prayer, and let science disproof its influence on our bodies. This is just an example out of many can be thought of, which can bring people together in love and peace rather than rejecting each other. Peace out and love for all!
People ignore that the greatest answer to prayer is when God changes you to have a heart of love. I am in the process of experiencing this answer to prayer.

Okay this gentleman says that in the Bible praying and praying heals and do all kinds of things all right let's just say for a second that he's right and science it's wrong... Okay let's just say for a second that his mother his father or his son or his daughter or any loved one close to him it's very ill sick or has a bad accident. it says in the Bible that if you have faith you can move mountains I am going to be fair with you Christians bring at least 9000 hundred billion people to pray for that loved one to get cure to get well.... I will take mine to medicine Science & let's see which one has more chance to survive.. I wonder if he's going to take a chance on praying for his loved one
Prayer works by giving psychological support. Group prayer helps by showing community assimilation. The source of prayer is in a few neurons of the right temporal lobe in the human brain. An area also associated with hallucinations.
Christians would have us believe that god has our lives mapped out in exact detail. If one ends up with a cancer that will claim ones life, then that is god’s plan for him to take you and be with him in heaven. If one is then prayed for and healed as a result, this sets up an interesting dichotomy. Either god is willing to change his plan based on prayer, which nullifies the original premise, or the prayer is useless and a recovery was planned in any event. Either way, I’m afraid this is all rubbish.
The man is mistaken. God has no free will. God (if he exists at all) is supposed to be all-knowing and all-mighty. Can god change the future as he has foreseen in his all-knowing ? No, because if he could, he has seen the future wrong and therefore is not all-knowing and therefore not god.. But if god cannot change the future he has foreseen, he is not all-mighty and therefore not god. So god is forever imprisoned in his all-knowing and all-might. Poor schlemiel.
I haven't prayed although my massive stroke, affluent right-side body, mutism and grammar sentences structures in my brain healed themselves. Why? Because, I work hard to strengthen my muscles. I work hard with my oral phonics. I work hard to strengthen my new neural pathways using neuroplasticity. Prayer does NOT work.
"Prayer never fails, the answer is always: YES, NO or LATER" - What an absolutely moronic sentence that is. Absolutely every outcome, no matter what can then be attributed to God without rebuttal. Yes - "See, it worked, God did it!" No - "God works in mysterious ways, it's all part of a greater plan" Later - "It cannot be counted on to act insantaneously, however at some stage it will be answered and you will see its benefits". What a ridiculous preposition to set up, one which cannot be proven by you nor argued against; a waste of time and in my opinion a dangerous position to hold if you are suggesting this to someone genuinly in need of help.
That first speaker just changes, twists and bends his prayer answers as he goes along to make it seem like god is actually doing something? NO FAIR WHEN YOU CAN JUST CHANGE YOUR GOD ANSWER PER QUESTION!!
We live in a world where 9 million children die every year before the age of 5. That's an Asian style tsunami, the likes of which we saw in 2004 that killed 250,000 people, every 10 days, only of children under 5. That's roughly 17 children per minute. This God either does not know about this suffering, which means he is not all knowing; or he can do nothing about this suffering, which makes him not omnipotent; or chooses to nothing about it, which makes him not all good. If this god is not all knowing, not omnipotent, and not all good, then why call him God? I'm certain, a vast majority of these children and their parents are praying for God to relieve them of this suffering, and receiving no answer. One thing I can't stand is people that pray before a meal. This implies that God chooses who will receive food, and who will not. When you look at the levels of starvation in the world, especially with regards to children who starving to death right now, prayer before meals just seems so arrogant and capricious.
God always answer prayers. Sometimes it's "Yes." But sometimes it's "No." And sometimes it's "Wait." He always answers "Yes" to prayers requesting for wisdom, salvation and forgiveness.

There is no logical explanation for this. Perhaps being positive does have some sort of physical effect? I don't know.
If God existed and had this "divine plan", if you prayed for something that wasn't included in the plan, he wouldn't change his plan, but if what you asked for was in his plan it would happen anyways so what's the point of prayer?
If prayer actually worked then there would be no need to even get out of bed. All you have to do is pray away all your bills and problems. The first guy was delusional and clearly just making it up as he was speaking.
Every living beings pray daily, what does it mean,
prayer is the best form of worship it shows submission Faith and the need for the Almighty Allah . Knowing that we are weak and helpless and Allah Almighty is the all powerful all knowing
Why do you believe this?
You sound like know god that well, what does that make you?
category autos and vehicles
where are the cars? :)
If someone prays for an action of some sort that allows themselves or others to live longer....isn't that an attempt to prevent themselves or others from dying and going to the heavenly afterlife they expect? Getting into heaven is the ultimate goal for Christians. You'd think they would want to get there sooner.
after every episode with religion as the topic I think I get a little more dumb after listening to some of the people talk about god an religion wtf
Ask an amputee, prayer never works for them
Why doesn’t he (god) answer the prayers of those suffering horrible atrocities in which he has the power to intervene, but chooses to answer menial requests such as helping us to raise funds at a church car wash, or to win at a sporting competition?
So something indistinguishable from personal inference?
2:49 talk about a tap dancer 🕺
He wouldn't answer a single one of the questions he was asked: 'Does prayer work?/Does God answer prayer?, 'What are God's criteria for answering prayer?', 'Have you seen extraordinary results of prayer?', 'Why are some prayers not answered?' - and then he didn't fucking stop interrupting and talking over every other person there. Infuriating!
Trying to make the argument that a mere man cannot do everything that people ask him, and that's why god won't.
Its amazing how god answers the prayers of those in these developed countries, but seems to let people die in developing countries. It's almost as if he doesn't car about them, or perhaps it has something to do with the medical care.
If prayers worked it would have been demonstrated without any doubt over a billion times, it clearly doesn't work - so this was yet another episode of kids versus rational grownups.
At least a trillion prayers a day, how many answered?
None, because God doesn't exist. There are only alleged answers in the form of lucky occurences or when the prayer was so vague and all-inclusive that anything could be interpreted to count as an answer.
Does prayer work? Easy answer: no.
It's your own body who is curing you, when ll start looking in?
COMING UP NEXT: do we pray to the milk gallon for answers
It works , but only religious people know.
How are the healers doing now in the middle of the pandemic? Or is it God made therefore there's nothing they can do.....
No, but doctors do. And they're very good at their jobs.
NaN Atheistic doctors do not pray. Sowwy.
Its a wrong question? It presupposes that it has to be. God hasn't made that promise and neither prayer is needed for salvation. Its a choice.
If prayer works, then we don't need the Police anymore.
Funny how god never really does anything that is testable.
Jeez Mickey, you get some awful prosletysers on this show!
"God has free will."
Yeah the free will to never ever provide any evidence that your prayer has been answered in any meaningful way.
No. Next question
I can not understand how anyone can believe this first guys argument.
I wonder how their mind works,it’s beyond me.
No I still haven't won the lottery.
I pray all the time, and God answers my prayers.
Same. Njörðr answers my prayers all the time.
DeterminationForever.......ok........
I assume you only pray for the sun to rise each day.
Ms NYC Girl you must be praying out loud and God is the name of some guy
Not Important NO!
If a spiritual healer is ill, I think they've lost their right to our NHS.
Institutionalize begging.
6.19 have you ever heard of chance
Prayer never fails, the answer is always: YES, NO or LATER.
God has all angles covered!!!
I had no idea that having an imaginary friend was a passport to impersonate police officers.
Now you do!!
Prayer is telling god that he got it wrong and how he should have done it.
That first speaker just changes, twists and bends his prayer answers as he goes along to make it seem like god is actually doing something? NO FAIR WHEN YOU CAN JUST CHANGE YOUR GOD ANSWER PER QUESTION!!
Does prayer work? My answer and thoughts are 🤣🤣🤣
We live in a world where 9 million children die every year before the age of 5.
Apparently prayer works sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t......funny that. So does luck and coincidence.
God always answer prayers. Sometimes it's "Yes." But sometimes it's "No." And sometimes it's "Wait." He always answers "Yes" to prayers requesting for wisdom, salvation and forgiveness.
That's the dumbest response. "Maybe, maybe not" There is no point.
@@ThatDamnPandaKai She’s lost. Can’t blame her really.
Praying is like wishing.
_No, prayer does not work._
