Another chat with my good ol' godfather Daniel, this time going into one of Father Thomas Hopko's maxims: Maxim 37, "flee fantasy, imagination, analysis, figuring things out."

Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on us sinners.
Great video guys. Thanks!
Wow I didn’t expect how good this would be lol forgive me for doubting but that was very helpful for me. Orthodox never cease to amaze me
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. God bless you both.
This is my biggest vice tbh
Up ❤
The distinction was made but not with clarity. Imagination used as a tool to accomplish a goal requires focus, attention and presence, and is thus redemptive. Flighty imagination/fantasy is by definition disordered, chaotic and unstructured. It therefore lacks any masculine virtue.
Everything in life must be judged by 2things. The nature of the idea and the fruit of it. and if they are good then it is good. For example i always wanted money(even when i was a non beliver) and i never had money and now i ask God for money and I get as much as i need. I was wondering why. I realised that before I wanted money to mostly Fornicate and now i want it to spend time with my Wife. Also the idea with over fantasiting is so much what i strugle with. I find my self when i am sad i run to fantasy. I never thought this way about it before you guys talk about it. Thank you and God be with you
8:25 preoccupations with things that are none of our business, and we are not qualified for.
Most of the news. But also interfaith arguments.

Lol
Is that Russell Crowe
Thomas Hopko would advise Tolkien to not have spent the many hours spent imagining an entirely fictional world, with fictional people, fictional languages, and fictional gods and spiritual beings.
Hopko is bunk. These maxims are largely bunk, and have very little with the teaching of Christ.
They belong to a Church that is and has been dominant; that has sought earthly riches, pleasure, and power, and has largely succeeded in finding them for the past thousand years.
It has failed its mission to Christ, and the Patriarchs will not be spared for their incompetence and greed when the time comes.
I think that's an exception if you are a Christian writer
@@negativedawahilarious If there are exceptions, they can’t properly be called maxims can they?
No, this is a work written for then purposes of maintaining the earthly power of church hierarchy.
Yeah, it's honestly ridiculous.
@@Aussie0912actually this is the first time I heard the word maxim
@@Aussie0912 Actually yes. The very definition of a maxim is "a general truth." It's something that's generally true, but it doesn't have to be an absolute in all situations.
With most things, an intelligent person understands that there are exceptions to the rules. Even many of the commands in the Bible have exceptions, most of which are also stated in other verses of the Bible. Hearing one wise piece of advice and immediately thinking it means it must be applied 100% of the time is a low I.Q. way to understand something. In religious terms, that would be legalism.
I already know someone is going to come along and try to accuse me of saying sins can be excused in certain situations, or that there is no absolute Truth. If you do this, you're proving my point. You can't even conceive of how something can have an exception to the rule. You're stuck in a legalistic mindset. Yes, cheating on your spouse is always adultry. Yet, the command to Honor The Sabbath could always be broken in order to save a life or to do good. The Bible says divorce is sin, then gives you specific reasons why you can. Thou Shall Not Kill, except for when the bible also says to do so.
There are a number of obvous ways in which fantasy and imagination can be spiritually harmful. Of course, if you're an artist, this doesn't apply to your work. If you're an engineer and use your imagination to creatively solve problems, that's not what's being warned against here.
