- Another chat with my good ol' godfather Daniel, this time going into the idea of listening to music at the gym, and listening to too much music in general.

This is something that struck me. We come into the Liturgy, and what are we doing? We're singing. That's what my ears hear the whole time. Singing.
Then my priest talks about the Liturgy. What does he say that we're doing in there? Praying. What we're doing in the Liturgy is called praying.
Further, we can ask, what is a "psalm"? It's a song.
What do we do with the Psalms? We pray them.
Think about what happens when you listen to a song too many times in a row. What happens? You get it stuck in your head. You rehearse it over and over and over again within your own mind.
Then think about Paul's injunction to "pray without ceasing." What would that feel like in light of the above observations on the concepts behind the words of 'song' and 'prayer'?
There's a part of me that believes that secular music is one way the demons trick us into praying their "prayers."
Interesting take
Good insight.
I no longer listen to music. I listen to sermons and lectures on orthodoxy. Especially to blank out the music in some environments. But i agree we should try to just be as we are no distractions. Thank you both for sharing your thoughts, its been a blessing.
I jog listening to psalms
This doxology always motivates me to jog or lift: th-cam.com/video/5N4_m72rQdE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6HsMO_RLK--BL39h
When I was lifting I was listening to “6 feet under, machine head, behemoth, carnifex etc” music that stirred the passions.
I have been spending more time in silence and listening to the psalms. The psalms are better than any preworkout in my opinion
Great content!
I like the rosary and the chaplet of saint Michael.
Can you share your playlist? So I can try it out?
Where can someone in Canada buy your merch? (I hope it's high quality).
As far as I heard the channel has discontinued all merc for the time being due to manufacturers not being able to produce cost effective quality in line with the channel's ethos. So we all wait with bated breath.
I am just going to stop. Before I even watch the video.
I am currently reading the life of Moses by Saint Gregory of Nyssa ❤️☦️ and in all honesty.
I think this is great because he’s kind of told me I truly do believe that the sake of our “exercise” for inclining ourselves towards the promised land is the sake of exploring the educations of both the sacred and profane. Understanding that these two things can be distinguished so long as the former is kept solid and structured and separate (as is the sacred) from the worldly and tyrannical oppression and spirit of a man that was endowed with a place for Satan in his heart as Pharaoh.
More on that as I go on and if anyone is ever curious as to see what I’ve kind of learned being a gym go-er myself.
Oh and Christ is risen!
There's much to be said for this topic. As written in the New Testament: "we are in the world but not of it."
Thoughts on jazz, with no lyrics?
Music has a vibe regardless of words. Some music is uplifting or depressing all just based on tones and beats. Music can even just sound sexy. Sometimes these vibes are deeply personal. So I would just be sincerely honest about how the music makes me feel and then judge whether those feelings are beneficial.
@danielswanepoel9931 thank you. I just listen to "study" jazz music. It helps me focus, so I suppose it's fine.
Is there a link to the classical music that you are using for training ?
This is one that I found. It's upbeat and inspiring albeit not necessarily Christian in any way. th-cam.com/video/aISfc41pOIY/w-d-xo.html
But do some research of your own. There are some epic composers.
This one too. th-cam.com/video/TZ5WW1kzepo/w-d-xo.html
What's your opinion or the father's about protein powder and creatine. I think of taking I but I want to know if it is a sin like tattoos that change the body God gave us. Also in your knowledge are there serious dangers in taking it? Thank you and be blessed 🙌
Protein powder and creatine are safe to take in the recommended ammounts, and are not sins, as long as they do not cause you to sin (pride). Though, i'd say you do not need them, unless maybe you are a competitive lifter. A balanced diet will provide you with enough protein, and meat contains creatine.
I would advise you to look into the "heavy duty" philosophy of training of Mike Mentzer, if you train in a bodybuilder manner. The man was ahead of his times. A good channel run by a friend of his is Heavy Duty College. You will thank yourself later.
Protein is in meat. Consuming Protein powder is not a sin.
There is no sin in Protein Supplements or Creatine. The sin is in the heart. If you do things because you feel insecure about your body or ungrateful for how God made you, then the sin is there. If you try to get results you didn't work for by trying to cheat with supplements, then the sin is there. Be honest with yourself, see your local Orthodox priest, confess your sins. The answers are there in our honest relationship with God. There are dangers in taking things outside of their designated order. Things like Creatine should be taken under medical supervision for instance. So please discuss your body with qualified professionals and discuss your soul with your priest.
This guy is south african, but theres almost no orthodoxy in south africa
There are tens of thousands of Eastern Orthodox Christians in South Africa, across many parishes, as well as a cathedral, and in 2018 the first Orthodox monastery was established. By the mercy of God the faith is growing in SA, day by day, year by year.
@@AsceticAesthetic cool, but compared to the millions of protestants there's like almost now orthodoxy in south africa
@@unknownvids644 What is your point?
Ironically Africa has had Orthodoxy from the beginning. Christ Himself spent the first 4years of His life in Africa, Saint Mark brought the Gospel here and established what would become the Patriarchate of Africa. Our parishes here in South Africa fall under that Patriarchate. No matter how small our demographic might be, by God's great mercy we can't keep up with the amount of people being cathechised for baptism.
No music at all for Orthodox Christian, not classic not jazz or whatever worldly!
Fanatic. The music isn't bad
Bit Gnostic this.
Yes to classical music
Content is more important than instruments or genres.
Voices are considered the most holy instruments in the Church, but they can still be used improperly to spout vulgarities and vices in song.
