Kale picked in the warm months (and this goes for collards as well) will become sweet if you put it in the freezer for 10 minutes after harvesting.

Thanks for sharing! It probably triggers the same process that happens in the cold months of fall and winter.

@@YT4Me57 I actually learned this in graduate school from a fellow student from the Netherlands that said the Dutch chop kale into mashed potatoes... its pretty good, actually, with garlic. They told me to put it in the freezer, the kale, before I cooked with it. Just 10 minutes.

Girl I missed you, you were just what the doctor ordered. The garden was hot and I was sweating bullets, but came, sat down tuned you up and instantly got laughter, thx for being you. Asia you're a breath of fresh air on a crispy hot day.

This is why i grow my brassicas in container pots and my chinese napa cabbage. I put vaseline all around the middle of my pots to stop slugs etc ftom crawling up in the pot to eat my brassicas and napa cabbage. Especially when it rains is when all these gross slugs like to come out. But putting vaseline outside of the pots work really really good!

I am fairly new to the channel. To be blunt, there are so many things that make it worth watching. This will be my first gardening cycle with you. I have learned a great deal of tips, here and there. I am mostly seeing the principles practiced and learning from the outcomes. My indoor grow bag gardening has improved because of you. I also want you to know that something about the way you harvest makes me feel just as happy as if I were doing it. I love that everyone who chooses to garden is able to. While you were not the target of my goals, being able to share your garden shows that WE ALWAYS had the right to garden. In some states, they "tried to pretend" people were not allowed to garden anymore. Many older residents told me how the state of Florida forced them to STOP sharing and trading food. It was a way to force people to go to the supermarket and eat foods of lesser quality. I am happy to see you in this space. Just wanted to tell you...enjoy all that hard work! And girl, you are a tough woman...machetes are for snakes as snakers are for falcons. LOL. I know it sounds crazy but I love a good story about how I ran down a snake with a machete as a "opening joke" when people say gardening is boring. Like NO...not when snakes show up and try to be friends. LOL. Everyone loves squirrels but snakes...yeah not happening. LOL.

Oh Asia, I'm SO sorry you encountered a serpent!😢😱 I've been extremely nervous about getting my tiny garden started for this very reason. I only do containers and elevated raised beds (can't stand slugs, groundhogs, cats, etc., touching my food🤮). Still, be encouraged and know that you are Such an inspiration to So many of us!♥

I see snakes multiple times a day at my job and in my home garden. We have tiny brown snakes which are good garden friends. As long as snakes are nonvenemous, they can stay. Venomous ones I will try to call someone to relocate.

I love the back round nature, there is so much life in one space ^_^ I also enjoy the experimental details that really sets you apart from other gardeners. I dear to dream if you did this full time what your garden would look like with more space and time. I have been reading and watching vlogs cents covid start from different sources and by far you and Mr. Charles Dowding are the most organic gardeners in my option. even though you are doing it all from testing and fun you are doing grate that's very inspirational. I let fear stop me and working full time lately sickness slow me down but all excuses aside I have still made time to grow flowers for the first time and an albino avocado tree she is a small girl but strong. My cat's seam to leave her, but they are loving taking the head off my male avocado baby no matter where I move it smh. Anyway ^_^' I love your channel, and your content keep up all your wonderful sharing it really makes a big difference to someone like me (different out the box thinker pushing boundary's and making my own way). oh, and I got chicken to lol because I saw your pretty girls living so happy I love that she just started laying her fairy Egg's and a lot surprisingly but I love her Thank You so much for the inspiration.

Hi Asia! You are so funny. I only use mint for tea and medicinally. I definitely am still germinating seeds in house. I'm in Philly so I also have a long growing season. Squirrels keep digging up my onion pots on my back porch.. but not the ones that are on the ground in pots.. thinking because those have longer onion strands. Who knows. My collards and sugar snap peas survived the winter and came up and are now flowering and going to seed. I love gardening!

I jinxed myself asking about snakes last week. Girl, I was planting out the last celery seedlings in mom's garden, stuck my hand trowel in, and pulled out a curled up baby one. The scream I let loose! And her back yard is wide open...geez. Dad found big momma a couple days later in a bale of straw he was saving to reseed bare spots in the lawn as they arise during summer. Nope, not for me. I buy a bale of anything and it goes out right away. Fingers crossed thats it for 2024 sightings 🤞

Do you like Thai food??? I use up a ton of fresh mint & fresh basil when I make larb w/ ground chicken or Turkey (I do not like ground Turkey- but the strong Thai flavors (you must use fish sauce & lime juice) plus all the herbs (I at least double the amount of mint & basil in any recipe 26:03 ) totally disguise the Turkey!) …
    anyhow Google “easy larb recipe”…
it freezes really well too- then I add more fresh herbs & lime juice when I reheat.
I like it served like tacos but in fresh cabbage leaves (I put the leaves in over the hot larb right when I finish cooking, put the lid on & turn off the heat… let the leaves soften 5-10 min… so they’re not cooked- just softer than when raw…. Omg! Soo good!!!
If you think you don’t like fish sauce… get a little bottle & try it…. It grows on you!!!

I struggle with strawberries. My bed is so full of plants. I realized this year they need more maintenance than I have time for. This density has created a good environment for slugs and pill bugs or so much retained moisture the berries are rotting before they ripen all the way. I am going to remove my strawberries and plant asparagus instead. I will move my strawberries to my greenstalk. It works so much better for me. I just need to remember to let a few grow runners to replace a few plants every year.

Asia, I harvested my kale/arugula/lettuce/cilantro yesterday n yes some of my cilantro is going to flower. :) I’m having issues with slugs I can’t stand them they’re eating my plants n I’m putting all types of organic stuff to get rid of them.

Try saucers of beer. I heard that they are attracted to beer and will fall in and drown.

Hello Asia 🙋🏻‍♀️ Always looove to watch your harvesting videos. You can dry your mint and include in the dishes. I personally love mint and grow and dry mine. Remember I commented in one of your videos talking about healing my sandy soil. I worked on it and turned good; and I started my vlogging channel😊 keep up the good work, you’re a true inspiration🍀

Heyyyy Internet Cousin!!😃. I’ll have to grow me some comfrey for this reason. Now I just make a “weed” tea to use.

Yes I do. I don’t do a lot of measuring but I do dilute it.
