Obviously haven't seen the speeds people do in our area. Even with speed pillows, they will be doing upto 40mph. In an area with kids in! Also the same ones complain (normally with two fingers) when I go between the speed pillows to avoid damage to my car. This is NOT illegal, especially if I'm at the speed pillow first and doing the limit.

Yep! Where I used to live, 30mph we had I think 6 cameras in the estate.
To my certain knowledge there had been no fatal accidents in 20 year.
Another road a few miles away, 60mph road, 3 or 4 fatals a year. No speed cameras there though.
      Not safety cameras, revenue grabbers.

I suggest the words ‘safe’ and ‘speed limit’ are not used in the same sentence. Here is why. I live on an estate where there are few footpaths, many turns and even more young children. The speed limit is 30 mph. At 3:00 am 30 mph is reasonable. When the kids are playing 15 mph might be excessive. Then, if you consider how a speed limit is made. Firstly, it is put in place by an unelected, unaccountable nobody in the council. They should consider the road width, number of carriage ways and lanes, lighting, junctions, proximity of houses, road camber, topology, geographical features, natural features, road surface, road furniture, safety provisions, traffic volume etc. Then vehicle characteristics and driver performance should be considered. And then they pull one of five numbers out of their arses, typically going for 10 or 20 mph less than similar roads used be before improvement 20 years ago. Now tell me about speed limits and safety.

If caught by a manned camera does the camera have to be calibrated at the end of that day.
Can you ask for proof that the camera was calibrated for and after that day.

No not calibrated, that is only done once a year by the importers. If it was done every time it was used it would invalidate the certificate when actually calibrated. The checks done daily are just confidence checks not calibration.

  • @stevedixon6230
    @stevedixon6230 ปีที่แล้ว

Nice and helpful video - thanks. One of the things that I've been looking at is calibration certificates that speed cameras use, and I wonder is anyone had some ideas on the issue below.
I think that the handheld speed cameras need an annual calibration certificate and an addition calibration check at the start and end of a day, together with records of where the officer stands and what the weather conditions are - so that in effect two calibration certificates are needed, although the one done on the day is called something other than a calibration certificate.
The most common devices used in the UK are probably the handheld Trucam devices. One thing that confuses me though is could anyone explain why for Laser Tech UK, there appears to be a discrepancy between the Home Office calibration certificate requirements for the mobile Trucam speed camera devices and examples of the calibration certificates available online from different police forces?
My understanding was that there is guidance that set out some minimum requirements, which is similar in the newer and older Home Office guidance. An extract from the guidance says....
"In addition the following information shall appear on the calibration certificate:
    i) the pulse repetition frequency or appropriate clock frequency shall be listed against the expected value;
    .....
iv) a table of actual and corresponding measured range. If presented, the corresponding speed readings shall also be listed, or a statement verifying they were all 0 mph, given. "
So for point (i), sometimes only one value of pulse repetition or clock frequency appears on some Laser Tech calibration certificates (Dorset Police 21-0319) and it is not clear if that is actual measured or the nominal manufacturer value, whilst on others no value appears and they simply write "Pass" (Warwickshire Police 23-0698). Can anyone explain why this does not appear to be compliant with these minimum requirements as the expected and actual values need to be recorded for the pulse repetition frequency or appropriate clock frequency of the device , i.e. there should be two values of frequency on the certificate? Writing "Pass" is not writing a frequency value and writing one frequency value is not writing an expected value and an actual value for the unit. The word "against" clearly sets out that there should be two values doesn't it? If the values were only a very small amount out it could introduce significant errors in the speed measurement I guess.
For point (iv) it appears from the Home Office guidance that a table is required with actual and corresponding measured range values. Most Laser Tech Trucam calibration certificates seem to have only the actual range value column, which looks to be the ranges measured out on the ground with a measuring wheel or similar, with no indication of the speed camera measured range value or any error in that measurement. The guidance says that the actual distance value should be recorded with the measured value. This does not appear to have been done on the calibration certificates that you can find on the web - again, am I missing something? Instead, "Pass" is usually written in a column titled "0 mph" next to a column of fixed distances. Surely this is totally ambiguous and does not appear to be compliant with the minimum required information that should appear on the certificate. It would not be clear if the "0 mph" column was meant to indicate if the distance measurement was a "Pass" or the 0mph reading was a "Pass" at that distance - neither of which would appear to be compliant with the guidance in any case. I'd thought that the reason that the minimum requirements for calibration certificates are specified to be measured values, is as an extra safeguard, to give confidence that the annual calibration has actually been performed. So does anyone know how these LTI devices have calibration certificates that do not appear to have a calibration measurement of distance on the calibration certificate, that would indicate that the device had been properly calibrated for distance measurements in compliance with the guidance.
The second part of point (iv) says " If presented, the corresponding speed readings shall also be listed, or a statement verifying they were all 0 mph, given." - again, this does not appear to be what is done on the Laser Tech calibration certificates. Am I misunderstanding something else here ?
You can find lots of examples of calibration certificates on google searching "lti calibration certificate" - and there is some variability in the format and type and amount of quantitative information in them. Guidance on calibration certificates can be found googling "a guide to calibration requirements for traffic enforcement " - and whilst newer guidance has been released in the past couple of years, I though that the newer guidance still contained the requirements specified above.

Google maps is updating your device based on pings in the area you're driving in, although a phone etc can be tracked very accurately, doing so on google maps while driving is a different matter, go onto your monthly google tracker to see where youve driven, it wont be exact, even if you go onto JustEat app theres an "exact location" button now, this combined with the fact yore travelling at 40mph means that by the time youve travelled 14.6 metres per second every second and the app is trying to update itself ....... with not exact locations at each attempt, then an "overall" picture is given via google maps, deffo NEVER rely on anything other than your own speedo

Everyone knows its just a way of making money. If it was about safety you'd get an instant ban 1st time you got caught. The technology already exists to stop cars speeding electronically no matter how far the pedal is pressed. But that would lose a lot of income from speeding fines. Secretly the government want us to speed because its easy to prosecute drivers and make money out of it. Speed doesn't kill in itself. Accidents happen when other factors come into play, for instance a driver going along a motorway at 120mph would not be dangerous in any way until someone pulls into their lane without looking. Who's at fault there? I'd argue it was the one changing lanes without checking it was safe to do so but in this country the guy doing 120 would get most or all of the blame. If someone causes a crash then yes they should be charged if their driving was the cause, but to be heavily fined for speeding when nobody got affected by it I think is wrong. Not that it matters what me or anyone else says, motoring is fast becoming less of a pleasure sad but true

I've made it impossible for ANPR to read my plates. I can't legally tell you how but a google search will tell you how.

The video camera is not ANPR, if the eyes can see it so can a video camera.

    This guy is talking legalese.
A criminal offence is not a criminal matter but a civil matter which requires consent. They always demand to know who was DRIVING.Driving is a terminology for reward or hire so you are therefore travelling in a personal conveyance!!
They can’t do anything lawfully if you don’t fill out the yellow contract form.
Under 1969 rice vs connelly case law nobody has to answer the questions of the police without it being a criminal matter. If they try to force you into submitting then they are committing a crime as they are coercing you into a contract under duress!!! And also its a violation of the modern slavery act!!!
I sent the yellow form back to them and stated i was excercising my right under the said act which overrules the criminal offence of not identifying the DRIVER of the said offence!!!
The police have no power of enforcement in law without consent.Teresa may stated in 2014 that we govern by consent.
These scumbags are terrorising motorists by extroting revenue from us and we have allowed them too hence why we are in such a bad state!!!!!

Consent cannot be withdrawn. Don't respond and you will simply be done for failure to furnish, 6 points, £500.

@ tell that to teresa may who stated that governments govern by consent. They can’t force you to admit liability.Legislation is civil procedure

But isn't telling them who was the driver at the time, incriminating and you aren't bound lawfully to disclose this information...🤔

    • @sidwills

Yes you are. Failure to nominate the driver is an offence.

An NIP is the form that the registered keeper of a vehicle will receive which asks them to provide the driver's details. It is an offence not to provide these details and failure to do so can be punishable by 6 points on your licence and a fine of up to £1000.
Your obligation is to confirm who was driving, not who could have been driving. If you are unable to identify one driver, unless you can prove that you have made diligent enquiries, you have committed the offence regardless of how many potential drivers you name.

Go read a book on body language and HOW humans communicate information, the brain interprets gestures as another form of speech, if you have an issue possibly a visit to the doctor to make sure everythings ok, "scientists observe the ability of infants as young as 18-months to use hand gestures as a predictor of later language abilities" direct quote from the neuroscience of speaking
