    In conclusion: Saphe is unbelievable value and gives you extra security thanks to its separate unit, but it relies on your phone and does not have as much information as Road Angel. Road Angel is the best but it is too expensive both in its initial cost and then subscription and they aren’t able to produce units and sell them which means it may be a moot point as if you can only get Saphe that may make the choice for you!

    0:54 your phone doesn't have the best gps you can get, especially not with regard to moving quickly (driving), phone gps receive GPS at the rate of 1Hz, meaning 1 position update per second, eg when you're driving at 70mph you've already gone ~102 feet before the gps updates your position, this is the reason why things like dragy use external gps boxes, dragy is a 10htz gps (10 updates per second), i can't find any specs on the road angel gps chip, i would hope for that price and for what its used for it would at least be a 10htz gps

    Thanks for an excellent video!
    In Denmark and Sweden, "ph" for example in "Saphe", is pronounced as "f", like "Safe" in English.

      Technically we should pronounce it the same way ph sounds like an f in English too its just the fact its an odd word to look at in general

    If you are doing say 68mph does the Saphe Pro still tell you that a speed camera is nearby ?
    Waze is terrible at this and I had a near miss last week due to my adaptive cruise control.

    • @autozoomies
      @autozoomies หลายเดือนก่อน

      waze is not a speed camera detector that is why, waze is effectively a crowdsourced camera locator, police can and do remove themselves for the location alerts, i was parked up and saw a camera van so i added it, a minute or so later the alert was gone, i added it back, it was removed again.

    Thanks that was a really helpful comparison, I have the Road Angel Pure and like you, I think it is way overpriced and has dated tech which frustrates me. I also find the lag in updating the speed on the Road Angel is unacceptable, sometimes it is 10mph to 15 mph behind the actual speed that you are doing. I really don't understand this company as they have a unique product for the U.K but they are making it a niche product because of its price.

      Glad it was helpful! It is the best option but they have issues that are holding them back and I agree about that.

    Do any of these work for mobile speed camera vans?

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mobile speed camera vans are in the same place, they will warn you of the location but they have no way of knowing if the vans are actually there. Waze would be better for this. You just need to be aware that they might be there and be prepared.

    I've just bought a saphe drive mini from Halfords for £59 and I can't see any requirement for a subscription? Worked fine coming home. The bulkier version was only £49, which compared to a speeding fine, and the ball ache of a speed awareness course or points has to be a bargain.
    Make sure you open the box before leaving store, I was in Halfords changing my brand new Sony DIN 1 radio (Faceplate doesn't click shut - "Yeah it's a known fault" So why sell them without checking them!!) and then the saphe turned out to have been pre-opened and put back in stock with a crumpled instruction sheet and missing sticky pad.

    Problem is that the main database for gps detectors haven’t been kept upto date for years now. Doesn’t matter which one you get, they all pretty much use one of two outdated databases

      Try resetting it, check the phone settings when it is connected as it may have a brightness setting. If not contact Saphe support.

    I have used the original mono screen Saphe drive never had any Bluetooth issues or much else. Road Angel is terribly expensive unless you are a professional driver who needs every possible warning, then it's probably just a business expense

    can saphe work with the app running in the background or have my phone screen off ?

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but your phone must be connected to the internet and Bluetooth to the device but it can be asleep.

      @@TechInTheCarMy Saphe doesn't turn on automatically when driving. I have to manually turn it on and when I turn bluetooth off, the bluetooth logo is flashing on my Saphe. I don't want that in the middle of night when my car is parked and a constantly display is flashing. Gives easy target for thieves. What can I do?

    • @TechInTheCar

      It works, I just don’t think it is as good as Road Angel - but RA is too expensive. If Saphe made a stand alone version it would be better than RA if the price was around £150 - which was actually close to the RA price pre-Covid.
