This actually just made me cry! My kids are 17, 15, and 12, and they were all grown on Doritos and whatever else my taste buds wanted. I had very uncomfortable.pregnancies. then they were all bottle fed because I never made enough milk for them. We found 100 days of real food back in the day, and it was the most wonderful thing. I spent most of my time in the kitchen, and I loved it. My husband has never been on board with spending a lot of money on food, and my kids started school and church things, and I literally just gave in to the easy way out. I just had a hysterectomy, my gut has been out of whack again for the last 8 years, and my oldest daughter has severe PMS, and is about to start allergy shots. I'm going to get my booty in gear and read more of that scripture, and do what the Lord wants me to do. I'm home while kids are in school, so I have the time, the money, and the resources. You are such a blessing. 💗
Thank you for sharing your vulnerability with me! Please don't beat yourself up about what has been. Trust me - it does no good! PMS and difficult periods are very connected to our diets and lifestyle. I forgot to mention that part of my learning journey! I pray you find the resources you need to help you along and especially the hope and healing! Thank you so much for your comment today. It made me feel like the many hours making this podcast was not wasted if it could just help you a little.
I can so relate to this podcast. I am 61 years old and the last few years I had suffered from severe dry eyes, then six months ago I developed rosacea. I had a very acute flareup of rosacea that I look like a burn victim. This happened while I was on traditional medication ordered by my physician. Also, my ophthalmologist wanted me on steroid eyedrops again when they didn’t work the first time. I went to a natural path doctor and had food sensitivity. Bloodwork done. It came back that I had sensitivity to gluten, eggs, milk, rice, almonds, and a few other things. I have gotten back to eating real food, and no processed sugar. I had been taking a vitamin D supplement along with vitamin E and omega-3. My blood work also showed that I was super deficient in vitamin D, although my husband and I go for daily walks outside. I am on a higher dose of vitamin D and a better quality product from the natural path office. She is going to reassess my levels after three months. When I was in the acute phase, I went back to basics and used Castor oil , coconut oil, and Vaseline to get my face, so it wasn’t burning. Fast forward two months and I am feeling so much better. I had been on a fitness journey for the last six years with the help of a fitness trainer for four of those years. I walked with a limp and had hip pain and knee pain. I do not suffer from any pain now because my supporting muscles are strong. I am like you when I talk about my fitness and health changes and lot of people just ignore the benefits I have experienced. I have suffered from depression since I was a young girl, now I feel so much better. I will definitely be listening to your link podcast and I am going to look at your cookbook. I just purchased cassava flour and quite excited to experiment with some recipes. I hope you will share some of your successes using this flour. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.. 💕
Hugs and thanks for your response as I am 67 and have a lot of arthritis issues and some skinissues and LPR silent reflux ( no heartburn etc just throat issues and voice). Wish you tube made it easier to talk to others
Enjoyed listening to your podcast even though I’m a few months behind! Hearing you talk about the many health issues you faced makes me think that something like DNRS would also have been helpful. Not sure if you have heard of it but I have been doing it for the last 6 months and it has helped me tremendously…between getting over the fear of certain foods while still eating healthy, digestive issues, acne, etc. A lot of people that have chemical sensitivity, anxiety, and food sensitivities have recovered fully! The program does encourage natural products and healthy eating but getting out of a fear mindset by rewiring your brain. As you can tell from my long response, I’m passionate about health and wellness too 😂 enjoyed listening!
Going deep into food is typically out of the scope of therapists, so it makes sense that your therapist didn't go into that very much. That is more of a doctor/nutritionist's role. Great podcast, thank you!
When it comes to strength training, try rowing! It's low impact (I used to coach and the majority of our clients were 50+) and works the entire body. I was my strongest when I was rowing 3-4x/ week, prepping for a Spartan beast.
You are wonderful! I think I appreciate this more BECAUSE You're not overly lean! I actually don't relate at all to the health people who spend hours at the gym AND tell people they eat perfectly. I get discouraged and defeated. You are so very relatable, and I totally appreciate that.
Thanks for another comment Erika!! I am encouraged so much to know that I am relatable versus perfect. I get discouraged by those images of perfection as well.
Cami, thanks so much for sharing with us. Few of us are the picture of fitness, but we all want to feel good about ourselves. You are beautiful inside and out and an inspiration to us. God did not make us all the same nor does he expect us all to be cookie cutter copies. We just need to do the best with what we have and are. Blessings to you and yours.
It’s so nice to hear that others are going through the same things as me!! Pros and definitely the cons of people think that I’m crazy. I don’t have any friends or family that understand. Thank you for confirming what I already know. ❤
Cami, great podcast. As a woman who has been interested in health most of my life, I have spent the last 6 years as a caregiver for my partner and severely neglected self care. Now that I am on my own it’s easier to grab a bag of chips and salsa than make decent food. I plan to watch the movie Food, Inc but doubt that I will be surprised by anything. So thank you for this boost to get me motivated to better health. Baby steps but moving forward!
It is definitely easier to live up to our ideals at certain seasons of our lives, versus others. I wish I would have mentioned that too! I doubt I could teach you much either, but I hope you found some motivation to do just a wee bit better every day and start taking care of yourself. It sounds like you will need all the strength you have!
Thank you for this episode. I had been raised on what I would call a balanced, cooked-from-scratch farm diet and provided the same for my own family. This turned out to be mostly good because we avoided the low fat trend and many of the ills that can come with processed foods. Later in life, I began to put on a little weight and had some signs of inflammation. My blood pressure and heart rate, had been creeping up so my doctor had me on beta-blockers. I decided to try a little periodic fasting. I was shocked at how much a difference it made and so was my doctor. My blood pressure and heart rate went down, so I went off the beta-blockers. My labs went from okay for my age to great. My energy felt like it tripled. And there were many times that I felt just like a kid, brimming with feelings of positivity and enthusiasm. That continues to this day, years later. I feel great and don't take any meds. I usually fast once every three months for three days. I cannot recommend fasting enough, for the potential it has for initiating autophagy (cellular cleaning) - though it should be done with the guidance of one's health care professional.
I am right there with you. I was raised on processed "junk" food and raised my boys the exact same way. I wish I knew back then what I know now, but all we can do is make those changes now! I have never had a healthy relationship with food or my body. I have told myself this is the year of action. Time to make changes!
This was a great episode, thank you Cami. I just recently found you by complete accident. I have a small business and I was searching anything "linen hand towel" and one of your videos came up. And now I am a follower. I grew up in Europe and we Europeans love good linen fabric! As for your comment regards food and mental health, I highly recommend Bach Flower Remedies. They are very popular in Europe in our homeopathy pharmacies which I was incredibly surprised are none in US. I can even write an article for your blog about Bach Flower Remedies. I can't recommend them enough for mental and physical health. Also, I don't know if you've heard of Cell Salts, but they are incredibly healing. Also, can't recommend highly enough. Good luck with your business! You are doing great.
Oh cami thank you so so much for this podcast... A lot of people do not understand why my husband and myself have to be so careful. I can't be around plastics, any chemicals and even prepacked foods. It makes me sick and I mean sick...... We have had to rid our home from any items made of plastics... I cook three meals a day at home from food we grow or bring into the home from places where we know how it was grown... Thank you so much for making me feel somewhat normal..
In regards to food. My family recently moved to live on the border of Canada and Washington and we do a lot of our shopping for food on the Canadian side. When I tell you the food is soooooo different tasting. So much less salty, so much less sugary and when we eat it we don't come away feeling gross or bloated or gassy. We didn't realize we had never had unadulterated orange juice or apple juice before getting it in Canada. We now ONLY buy our children's juices over the border. Even the SODAs taste different 😅. Chocolate is completely different in Canada. It tastes much less like sugar and more like cocoa and slightly like espresso. Coconut milk is available at the dollar store in Canada and it tastes so much better and is so much cheaper. If you have the ability guys, you only need an enhanced ID to go to Canada. Give it a try. We get a lot of our food in Canada now.
I'm not finding that I judge what others eat at this point. It hit me that we each have our convictions and our experiences and we are all on a path to health- some are ahead and some are behind.
GREAT episode!!! I completely agree, food is medicine. I grew up being sick every day but not knowing that that wasn't normal. I was given a plethora of prescriptions but no advice / questions about my "90's diet". My husband (we weren't married then) and I both read Fit For Life in the early 2000s and it changed our lives. I lost over 100lbs, healed a back injury that I had been taking strong pain killers for a decade and he healed a heart problem and inflammation that was so severe he could barley function. Needless to say, we have never looked back and our kids are wonderfully healthy because, like you, we would rather put our money and energy into foods that help us thrive than anything else.
You are so right on. I am learning about the Gaps diet how our gut health is where all our health issues begin. And can be fixed. Kudos to you for sharing and caring.
such a great perspective! I love your well-rounded holistic approach to it. What has helped me has been intuitive eating. I used to have orthorexia (obsessive with health) so I had to come to a more of a well rounded approach with Intuitive Eating.
Oh Cami, I thank you for this podcast! I have so many health challenges and am sitting here with my gut hurting because I think I have a gluten intolerance ( which I have been wondering for a few months) you have given such great and encouraging advice! I so appreciate your vulnerability. You are braver than I am. I admire you! Hah, I live in West Jordan Ut and man it would be fun to sometime meet you! Thank you so, so, much! For your videos and for sharing your life with me!
Thank you so much for this podcast!! How eye opening it is! I think you could almost say that food can be the root of all evil. In a way that is so true. Thanks for sharing. I started my journey in September with weight loss and fitness and general health care and it’s exciting to learn. It’s amazing, the dangers that are out there and seeing what they are. Thanks for plugging Just Ingredients, I’m going there next.
Oh Cami, there’s so much to unpack with what you’ve shared. I’m a breast cancer survivor (by The Grace of G-d), and at that time I was already doing my best to seek out healthier foods, menus, & cleaning products. For me, Pilates has helped me and now I’m using strengthen bands, per my chiropractor’s council (to help build muscle) from Robin Long - wearelindywell. I currently see a Naturopathic Dr who helped me detox from radiation. We really are to be watch-women over our homes, our children & our beloveds. To know what we bring into our homes and the foods we eat. From my side of the country, Thank You Cami! Every time I hear you share, it always feels like sitting with a kindred friend. Take Care, Dear Friend.
Hi Rosa! I love getting your comments and reading what you thought! Yes, wish we could truly sit down together and join hearts in real life as the watch-women of our homes! I'm so grateful the Lord preserved you! Yes, situations arise, even when we do the best we can. Thanks for the suggestion of Pilates. I've been feeling like I should give that a try, and feel like I would love it if I love Yoga. Thanks for always being here for me and encouraging me!
I’m gluten free, dairy free, and I don’t eat meat or eggs. They are not healing foods for me at all. I am the only one in my family who eats like this and it’s so hard to watch poor choices playing out. My husband is on a dozen different meds and eats crap with a side of crap but I’m not the food police so I focus on my own good health choices. Your Spirit comes through so strongly on all your podcasts! I had a similar journey; my epiphany was when my doctor told me to see a psychiatrist because I must be crazy because he couldn’t find out what was wrong with me. I asked him several times if the myriad of symptoms could be from what I was eating. Of course not was his response. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🤥🤥
hey girl- this was so good! Thank you for all of the info😉🤗I wanted to let you know I just love Denise Austin's videos on TH-cam- all kinds of exercises😊👍 Have a wonderful day🙋♀🥰
I loved this video so much. I am so frustrated though with you tube & I guess The change they are making with their ads? In the past you have always been able to skip and add in this video that was not an option I'm not saying that your fault I'm just venting to you to see if you know how we can complain about it haha. One of the ads was for Apple & was almost 10 minutes long. And they aren't two or three throughout the video it's every 2 to 5 minutes. Sorry I just had to vent because I just wanted to get back to your video and these ads would not let me skip them ugh. I do feel your passion on this subject and I know it's something that I need to do better with I do feel better when I am eating healthy but it's so hard to learn about all the ins and outs and everything should be doing so I appreciate you giving us some insight and maybe some ways we can start with small changes. Especially the sugar. We love you and appreciate the time you take to make these videos for us.
Hi Kelley! Thank you for letting me know about this frustration! I have been learning that there isn't much we, as creators, can do about the ads here. Even though I set some settings - I find they do whatever they deem best anyway. I can't believe you got a 10 min ad! That is super frustrating to me! I would suggest if you like the video format for my podcasts, head over to spotify where they do the video or just audio. There shouldn't be any ads there. Or get on to a audio only podcast platform like itunes, and there are no interruptions. I just think where my podcasts are longer, YT likes to put a lot in there - which is not great! I truly appreciate you stopping by to listen. It is very difficult at times to learn how to change your lifestyle, especially with food. But I encourage you to keep implementing small and simple changes and you'll be amazed at where you are at 1 year, 5 years, even 10 years down the road. All my best!!
how long did it take you to go from watching the movie and knowing you wanted to change til where you are raising your own foods? Also the thing with eczema, EXACT same thing happened to me with my son when he was a baby. I was astounded and didn't do the bleach but they did give me some med that restricted his blood vessels @_@ that was when we found out about GAPS diet and my son was free of eczema and 2 of his 3 allergies.
Good question! It was a long journey. I would say at least 10 years. Thanks for asking that as it gave me great perspective on what has happened. But I have always been amazed at how much better you can feel just after a few changes. I can't believe you were told to do the same thing with your son! I wish I would have been as wise as you to have questioned that. I've thought about the GAPS diet for a couple of my kids, I just so worry about the mental strength it might take them, especially where they are old enough and are a bit food independent at times. The restrictions messed with my head so bad as a teenager. I'm hoping to take these bigger changes (like gluten) slowly so they can feel empowered over restricted. But what a wonderful testament to hear what it did for your son! So powerful!
My daughter has Celiacs. She absolutely can’t eat any gluten. So in the case of babysitting or going to friends houses they need to know she can’t have gluten.
Yes, we are learning that for sure! This is a newer realization and we are trying to settle in to what needs to be done now. Would you recommend getting her tested to know for sure? That is a step I haven't been sure if I should take.
My husband and son both have Celiac. It usually is hereditary. My MIL and her mom has diagnosed late in life. There is a blood test but even the blood test isn’t always accurate. Our pediatrician said the most accurate way is an endoscopy. For my husband, we suspected he had it with his awful bowel issues and knowing his mom was diagnosed. His primary doctor told him to go off gluten and then we insisted on a request to get an endoscopy because his blood test did say he had it. They did the endoscopy and they said they were not certain whether yes or no. We saw the pictures and what happened is his insides showed scaring but healing because he had been gluten free 6 weeks prior to endoscopy. He has done better since going gluten free. Our son was showing symptoms and we requested the blood test for him. His levels showed likely celiac and we chose not to go forward with an endoscopy since he is young and we didn’t want him under. It’s just easier to keep him gluten free. But it’s sad. Celiac is a silent illness. If you are consuming anything with gluten, your insides are slower damaged and you aren’t absorbing the nutrients you need from food.
Oh wow. You really are close to the Pine and Prospect home creator. You two have the same speech and laugh patterns! And your voices sound so similar. Are you sure you two are not sisters?
Oh my! I've never received a compliment as good as that!! I had to share it with Andrea right away! Thank you so much. I adore her and look up to her so much. I wish we were sisters. Ha! Thanks for stopping by and listening today and taking a moment to leave me my favorite comment ever!!
36:27 there is a spiritual aspect of yoga should not be taking part of, and that spiritual cannot be separated from the practice … I urge you do a little more research (:

Thank you SO much!!
such a great perspective!
Amen to all you have said today
Thank you so much for this podcast!! How eye opening it is! I think you could almost say that food can be the root of all evil. In a way that is so true. Thanks for sharing. I started my journey in September with weight loss and fitness and general health care and it’s exciting to learn. It’s amazing, the dangers that are out there and seeing what they are. Thanks for plugging Just Ingredients, I’m going there next.
Cami, thank you! I can relate to so many of the points you made on so many levels! Well said & thank you for the encouragement ❤
I needed this. Thank You.
Thank you
Thank you for sharing all you learned. So interesting. Best of luck.
WOW, This is packed with valuable information.
I'm so pleased you felt that way! Sometimes I feel like I just ramble!! Ha!
Thank you for all of the info😉🤗I wanted to let you know I just love Denise Austin's videos on TH-cam- all kinds of exercises😊👍 Have a wonderful day🙋♀🥰
Oh thank you! I'll check out that channel!
Great topic and you did a good job at communicating.
So glad to hear it! Thanks for listening!
Wonderful informative vlog. Are you familiar with Dr William Li? I’m reading his latest book Eat to Beat Disease. It’s a wealth of info.
Throw your scale away. It’s all about how you feel not about a number.
YOU SHOULD LET YOUR KIDS WATCH TV 😮N THE EVENING DURING THE WEEK AS WELL,
IM SURE THEY MORE THAN DESERVE IT, FOR SURE THEY ARE GOOD CHILDREN AND THEYVE MORE THAN EARNED IT ALSO FOR THE FUTURE,
MOREOVER DONT FORGET THAT THEY ARE OLDER NOW,
YOUR ELDEST IS ABOUT SEVENTEEN, AND, FOR SURE, AFTER THE AGE OF FOURTEEN, THEY HAVE MUCH MORE THE RIGHT TO WATCH TV DURING THE WEEK AS WELL,
WHAT IF THERE ARE LOVELY KIDS TV DURING THE WEEK AND THEY MISS IT AND MISS OUT ON THAT?,
YOU SHOULD GO THROUGH WITH THEM TV PROGRAMS RVERY DAY AND LET THEM WATCH ONE HOUR OF TV PER DAY, IN THE DAY TIME AND ONE HOUR ALSO IN THE EVENING,
WHAT TV? WELL, IMAGINE THERES LITTLE HOUSE IN THE ORAIRIE AND WALT DISNEY MOVIE,
IMAGINE LITTLE HOUAE IN THE PRAIRIE IS IN THE AFTERNOON, YOU SHOULD LET THEM WATCH IT, WHILE THEY EAT A LOVELY AFTERNOON SNACK, A BIG ONE WHY NOT , EVERY AFTERNOON, AND JUST WATCH TV, OK, YHEY XAN ALSO DRAW OR PLAY WITH DOLLS AND TOYCARS IN FRONT OF THE TELLY,
THEY DESERVE IT, I YOU SHOULD LET THEM DO IT,
ITS UNFAIR TO FORBID THEM, ESPECIALLY THE ELDEST ONE AND ALSO EWUALLY THE OTHER THREE,
IF YOU , BECAUSE YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN LADY, YOU WANT TO LET THEM WATCH ONLY CERTAIN PROGRAMS THATS GREAT, BUT DO LET THEM WATCH STUFF ALSO DURING THEVWEEK, TWO HOURS OF TV EVERY DAY WONT AFFECT THEM, IT WILL GIVE THEM KAUGHTER AND MAGIC AT THE SAME TIME,
AND THEY FANNOT MISS OUT ON LITTLE HOUSE IN THE PRAIRIE,
ALSO, I HASTEN YO SAY, LOL, THAT IF THERE IS NO PROPER TV FOR THEM ON THOSE DAYS, THEN ITS NO TV AT ALL,
BUT DO NOT DENY THIS FROM NOW ON,
AND IN THE EVENING THERE MIGHT BE A WALT DISNEY MIVIE LIKE ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, FOR SURE YOU KNOW ITS MORE THAN INNOCENT, AND ALSO LITTLE WOMEN AND OLENTY IF ITHER MOVIES AND TV STUFF LIKE UNCLE BILL AND HIS YHREE NEPHEW AND NIECESAND MR FRENCH, I FORGOT THE TITLE ETC, VUT DO KET THEM WATCH IT,
THEY CAN ALSO DO SONE COLOURING AND DRAWING WHILE WATCHING TELLY BUT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEEAM DURING THE WEEK AS WELL,
FOR SURE , THERE WILL BE PLENTY IF DAYS AND NIGHTS IN WHICH THERE WONT BE ANY SUITABLE RV, OK, IF YOU DONT WANT THEM TO WATCH VIOLENCE, HORROR ETC ETC LOL, BUT THINK ABOUT MY PROPOSAL, DO KET THEM WATCH LOVELY KIDS PROGRAMS 2 HOURS PER DAY, THEY STUDY TOO MUCH AND HACE FAR TWO MANY ACTIVITIES AND THEY ARE TIRED AND THEY CRAVE FOR TV AND ARE VERY SAD NOT TO WrATCH IT, THEY ATE OLD ENOUGH TO BE PERMITTED TO, CLEARLY SUITABLE STUFF ONLY, LIKE CARTOONS, NICE ONES, NOT STUPID ONES, LIKE TOM AND JERRY YES, BIT NOT NAUGHTY ONES LIKE FOR ADULTS,
U MEAN, YOU DECIDE, AND JOTT DOWN A DEW XHOICES WITH THEM, AND THEN YOU DECIDE TIGETHWR ONE FOR THE MORNING AND THE OTJER ONE FOR THE EVENING, IMAGINE A LOVELY DOCUMENTARY ON THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS OR THE GRAN CANYON OR ABOUT TJE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS, WITH TJOSE GIANT TURTLES,
ITV WONT RUIN THEIR IMAGINATION NOR CHRISTIAN PRECEPTS, THEY DONT DO ANYTHING WRONG, DO KET THEM PLEASE X,
ALSO DONT NAKE THEM HAVE TOO MUCH SPORT IN THE EVENING THAT YOU CANT REALLY LET THEM DO IN THE DAYTIME BECAUSE YOU EANT THEM TO STUDY MORE DURING THE DAY,
PLEASE, IF YOU ACTUALLY ARE DOING THAT, PMEASE DONT ANYMORE, FOR ITS VERY YNKIND TOWARDS THEM TO IMPOSE THEM MORE STUDY DURING THE DAY AND SOORT AT NUGHT, WHEN THEY ARE JNACKERED AND EVERYBODY WIULD BE IVWR TIRED AND THEY ARE ONLY KIDS!!!!!, WHWRWAS YOU OUGHT TO HAVE THEM STUDY A LITTLE LESSVDAILY, AND ORGANIZE THAT APORT FOR THEM EARLIER,
BUT DO NOT OVERPOWER THEM, CHOKE WITH ONE MILLION SPORT AESSIONS, ITS NOT FAIR UTS THEIR LIFE,!!!!!, NOT YOURS AT ALL, DONT MAJE THEM DO SPORT OR GO FOR WALKS EVERY DAY, THEY SHOULD HAVE SAYS IN WHICH THEY JUST STUDY AND PLAY, AKSO OUTSIDE IF OK, BUT NO SPORT, FOR THEUR BODIES NEED TO REST AS WELK AND THEY MAY TELL YOUTHEY ARE NOT TIRED, BUT ITS NOT FAIR TOWARDS THEM, SO OLEASE DONT COERCE THEM TOO MYCH, AND ALSO THE OLDER ONES SHOULD BE ABLE TO SAY WE DONT WANT DOVTHIS OR THAT ANYMORE,
AND ALSO ALL OF THEM HAVE THE RIGHT TO WATCH TV EVERY DAY IF THERES SOMETHING LOVELY AND OR MAGICAL ETC OR CUTE FOR THEM TO WATCH ON TV, BUT NOT ONLY INFORMATIONAL!!!
