Corning Ware is one of the most versatile dishes around! When it first came out, one of the commercials advertised it as “from the freezer, to the oven, to the table.” I have been married for nearly 52 years and got some as wedding gifts that I am still using! I have also inherited some of my mom’s and my dear mother-in-law’s Corning Ware pieces, as well as some I picked up at thrift and resale shops. Their companion dinnerware, Correlle, has lasted me 29 years without one piece breaking! I loved this podcast!
That is amazing to have a product last that long! They don't make them like they used to! I'm now realizing I've seen Corning Ware and my mom even has a couple of pieces - likely from her wedding too! Thanks for tuning into my podcast today! It was fun chatting with you!
Yes! So true! It lasts forever! I also have some passed down to me from my late mother-in-law. She lived to be 92 & now I have her dishes & it's still going strong! It does stain easy so I understand this tip. Good idea!
I’m a Catholic, but I’ve always been impressed by the women in the LDS community delighting in their homemaking. You just don’t hear Catholic women talk about this much- even in the rural tight-knit community I grew up in. Working outside the home is so favored now. But there is so much value in knowledge like this, and it holds churches and communities together. Love a church cookbook
I think Kelsey Westmen ( I hope I have that right) is a Catholic youtuber who talks about homemaking. She does a nice job of it if you want to check her out😊
Thank you! I've always been very impressed by every Catholic woman I've met! Each one has been a kind and lovely women of God. Working outside the home is also creeping into our LDS culture, as it is everywhere. Honestly - it is near impossible to pay the bills on one income these days, no doubt a clever vice of the enemy of our souls. I feel certain attacking the home and family is his main focus, which is why I feel so passionately to defend it and encourage homemakers to guard it well. Thanks for watching today and I truly enjoyed our conversation together. Thank you for your kindness towards my faith and please know I deeply honor and respect your own!
Corningware= casserole dishes Thank you for the tips! I also loved hearing your love for the Relief Society and the ministering opportunities. Such a great organization of women that blesses so many!
Also a wooden spoon across a pot of boiling potatoes when making mashed potatoes. If needing to soften a stick of butter for baking, pour boiling water in a tall glass, then pour water out water and place glass over a standing stick of butter for a few minutes. The stick of butter will be perfectly softened and not melted.
Brilliant!!! Although - I have made my boiled potatoes in the Instant Pot so long, I think I forgot you could boil them on the stovetop. Ha! I've learned the butter trick as well and taught my kiddos - since we no longer have a microwave. It's a great hack! Thanks for sharing it with everyone!
I loved hearing all the tips! I'm old, so I do have corning ware that I received as a wedding gift. It is the white ceramic looking, but glass dishes with little blue flowers on the sides. Most come with a clear lid. They not only cook food well, but they clean up easy! Wishing you and your family a blessed weekend!
Corning Ware is a cooking/bakeware dishes. Both my grandmother and mother had so much of this cookware. It has become quite collectible in recent years. I live in Ohio and there was a factory in Greenville not too far from where I live. It was very popular in the Midwest. It was durable and easy to clean. So it become very popular. It’s quite attractive too!
Wow, this takes me back! My mom contributed to countless church lady cookbooks in her day. She passed last year at age 94 and the one thing I asked my brother to send me when he was cleaning out her stuff was her cookbooks! So many memories!
I love that so much! I bet you just treasure them. I love to look at my moms old ones too and you can see how much cooking has evolved. In some ways for the better, and in others - not so much. But always fun to learn from women of the past. I grabbed some vintage homemaking magazines at an antique store once. I should dig those out of my boxes and share some nuggets there too!
So smart! Isn't it funny how basic these things can be - yet the marketing world tells us we need some special kind of detergent. I'm definitely going to try this next time - in fact - I think I have a basket of stinky rags brewing right now. Ha!
Loved the list. I have lots of Corningware baking dishes. Grew up with it. Mine is french white and cornflower blue flower on it. They sell it at Walmart Canada .. or did.
I love listening to these old fashion tips. I have heard of some of these. I think women entertained more and put a lot of effort into their entertaining. Would love to hear all the hints. Would love for you to share some recipes too.
That is amazing! I totally know what Pyrex is, and figured it was something like it. Sounds like you know Corning up close and personal! Do you keep a collection?
I'm still using my Corningware from 1980 and it's fabulous! I absolutely loved these tips from your Relief Society cookbook and thank you for sharing a bit about that organization. It's a beautiful example of fellowship and sisterhood is it's truest form. I've been the grateful beneficiary on multiple occasions. Thank you, Cami for your heartfelt sharing! ❤
This was a great video, I’d love for you to share more. One favorite kitchen tips, if you drop a raw egg on the floor or counter, pour salt all over it, let it set for a few minutes & it wipes up so easily. Trust me, it works, I may have dropped an egg or two 😂
I see so many videos about folding fitted sheets. I don't put a lot of effort into that. When I change sheets I always toss them in the dryer with a wet dryer sheet. Then I put them on the bed while they are warm and wrinkle free
Right there with ya! I don't even have spare sheets most the time. I wash and make the bed same day, as that fresh washed sheet feel and smell can't be beat. I've decided I just don't need the skill of knowing how to fold a fitted sheet. Ha!
Descale a tea pot with 1 part vinegar and three parts fresh water and boil. Then, if you have tile floors (mine is porcelain, other materials, please check to make sure vinegar won’t damage them!), pour the vinegar-water mixture on freshly vacuumed floors, use big cleaning towels to have a floor cleaning dance party! It’s the only way I ever enjoy cleaning my floors.
I am 55, and my grandmother was born in 1913. She passed away long ago, but I grew up with all the old ways! I love your channel, and live just down the road from you in Centerville!
Great video, never heard of the relief society. What an awesome organization. Here is a great tip/hack. Farm fresh eggs are very difficult to peel when boiled. Instead steam them for 20 minutes, then per usual run them under cold water. When comfortable to touch they peel like a dream.
Thank you! Glad to have taught you something new! I loved your fresh farm egg hack! Those can be really difficult to peel. I've also found "boiling" them in the Instant Pot works wonders. The peels come right off - but putting them directly in the ice water is key.
I totally recognize them now, after looking them up. I see them all the time antiquing. But I think my mom has a couple so I'll hold out until she no longer wants them. Ha!
Indeed - Ramona. I looked them right up after reading your comment and thought "duh". My mom has a couple pieces!! I might have to claim inheritance on those. Ha!
One thing that I have been doing to keep the kitchen sink clean and from holding onto small bits of food. I use car wax, smear it on, let it dry then polish. It beads up water and doesn't allow food to adhere.
That is so brilliant! I would love to know what kind of sink you have and what material this works well for. We moved into a home with a stainless steel sink and I am not loving it. It looks messy all the time. I'm going to have to try this trick.
As a Christian, I don't understand why people would turn away from those who are not... ! I understand you are a woman of faith as well... maybe different than mine...but there is still a connection there... we are both homemakers, women, mothers, wives, friends, neighbors ; to turn away from those who are different than us...what does that say? not much! I love your channel, and will continue to watch ...
Would you consider adding these tips as a file on your website that we could print out for ourselves? It would also be a nice thing to gift to new homemakers!
I'm going to have to look into that. It would be so fun to make a printable download or little ebook of sorts. I don't want to steal anyones info and publish it, but I may have to think of how to do this to share the knowledge to more. Thanks for getting me thinking!
Yeah, you're too young to know what CorningWare is,😂. It's an old bakeware popular back in the 70's that was made out of an opaque glass material that had a small design on them. Use baking soda and white vinegar when washing your towels. Helps with odors and softens them.
