For cleaners, I only use 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar in a spry bottle. It is a disinfectant and cleans very well. No cleaners for years and we are so much better off. AND, it's cheap.
A lot of wonderful tips and sound advice, especially eating fast food. Once you stop eating that type of food you feel gross if you have no choice and for lack of options.
Right?! If we have to grab something fast food I feel sooooo crappy! And I love it when my kids do too. Hopefully they won't be tempted to eat so much fast food when they are out on their own someday.
We are in Australia and I find if we ever have fast food when travelling, it makes you feel even more sluggish when driving. We almost always take food with us, healthy salads, rolls, meat etc and make our own at a stop. Also drink water no sweet soft drinks. Sugar can be so bad for you and makes us foggy headed and causes headaches as we are not used to it. It is so much cheaper to eat what you make, than buying all the time. Best wishes and healthy lives xxx
I 100% agree with you on all these economic choices. In the personal beauty line, hair dye & makeup/beauty products are very toxic. No one should use those products. You can make everything you need for skin care & enhancement naturally & organically. Do a little research and save a ton of money. You will be thankful in the future with the preservation of your health. 💕
I’ve made my own cleaners for years and they work great! I’ve cut back on my paper towel use by using microfiber cleaning cloths and cloth napkins for meals, we don’t have any of the add on apps for our TV, we don’t buy dryer sheets but instead use dryer balls, a lot of times I air dry items, I hand wash instead of dry cleaners if possible. We’ve added a meatless meal each week. Just a few ways I save.
Cami, one of the greatest things I’m enjoying about your and Mr Tidbits channel is learning and watching you teach others how to do thing s for themselves in every part of our lives. It does not bother me at all that you are not do the makeovers everyone else on TH-cam are doing. I rather watch you show how to do everyday living things and get by without so much Walmart, Target, etc to buy new things every few months. You both are doing a great job on TH-cam. Hope you hang in there because I think a lot of people are starting to see the need for channels such as yours. God Bless you and family. ❤❤❤
Oh Lois. That was encouragement I really needed to hear! I read your comment yesterday and it caused me to think a lot about what I am sharing and hoping it isn't just fluff and can actually make a difference. This does mean my videos don't always perform super well, but I try to share from my heart anyway. So grateful to viewers like you who encourage and empower me to keep going!
I buy a couple rolls of cheap paper towels every couple of months and use them only to drain bacon after cooked and things like that. I bought several large, good quality flour sack towels, cut them in quarters and hemmed them. We use these instead of paper towels for drying hands, wiping counters etc. I also made my own cosmetic sponges. I love the laundry detergent recipe that I am using now and that saves so much. During Covid I was making sourdough and I really need to start doing that again. My husband and I are both retired and live on a fixed budget. I am always looking for ways to save money. Thanks for your inspiration!!

Great video Cami. You are a DOLL and beautiful just as you are! Congratulations on making these smart choices, both for your health and your wallet. Another video about what you've replaced conventional products with would be fun. Wise family, playing the long game beautifully! ❤❤❤
I think it’s cool that you are being extra healthy and frugal, good for you! Sometimes it can be difficult to go against the grain of those around you, but you are brave enough and smart enough to realize the benefits. I don’t do all these things, but it is inspiring to hear all the choices you are making and how it is paying off with your family.
Thank you Cynthia, dear friend! I'm grateful we have more information available to us these days to make healthier choices. We don't do them all perfect either, but every little bit makes a difference! Thanks for watching!
An idea to show your viewes what you do buy at the store is to take photos the next time you make a haul. I admire your perseverance in purchasing and growing these healthy foods. I am fully in favor of home grown produce, fruits, vegetables, meats, etc. My grandparents were farmers and seldom bought anything that hadn't been preserved at home. My Mom made our cottage cheese, and butter. We had chickens and hogs for meat (and eggs) and cowls for milk. People can be self-sufficient.
Thank you for sharing the importance of being thoughtful in how we can all live. It does make our lives better to think about what we are doing and why.
You are beautiful inside and out! Our kids are grown & gone but I found your video very inspiring. We love to eat out but have drastically cut back because it is so expensive. I would love to see how you make your own dressings & sauces etc.❤
Isn't it crazy how fast eating out costs add up?! I forgot to mention, if we do we will often share a meal and we don't order drinks. That helps. I should do more dressing and sauces videos! I do have fun with making those just throwing in a bit of this and a bit of that.
Your amazing, truly! I am so glad I have kept your blog going. I’ve stopped many. You have given me feel good, heart warming emotional lifts many times. I’m 80 now with so many homesteading dreams lost. It’s so wonderful to see you accomplish them. Mostly it’s the mate choice to blame. Good men (twice) but not into self reliance living so, here I am living it through you. Love & admire what you are living & sharing. A big thank you for opening up and sharing your life. Bless you. You are a gift from God! Ruth Eugene, Oregon
Loved the video and try to do a lot of the same things. I dont always succeed but when things run out they don't always get repurchased right away either. A thought on museums, and homwschool, and such....in NJ our libraries get free passes for several different museums, I'm wondering if where you live that the libraries have a similar program. We homeschool as well and have found doing things as a group trip also cut down on costs and the kids love going with their friends to make the outing more fun.
Such a fun video. We have a pretty similar list! My kids have all the toys they need, we buy ingredients instead of snacks... And so on. One way we save a lot is we eat plant based. When people talk about the price of eggs or meat I kind of shrug my shoulders. You look beautiful with your minimal makeup. 👍 My problem is birthday parties for other kids. I don't really spend fun money on my kids so I have a hard time buying something for other kids that I know will just go in a big stack. I'm not sure that a flower bouquet will work for a 7 year old boy. 😆 (but I love that idea for others!)
Thanks for your sweet compliments Jennie! I am actually moving more towards a plant based diet too. I just feel better without too much meat and dairy. Hard to do though when your family loves all the eggs, dairy and meat! I have struggled with kids parties too. I try to buy watercolor books/art supplies when they are discounted and stock a box of them to grab for those random parties. My teen have actually been pretty good at making more meaningful gifts for their friends like photo collages, notebooks, etc. But yes - that is a struggle! Sure appreciate you watching my video!!
Thank you, Cami, for the inspiration. I have retired and with things so expensive these days I really needed these tips. I have a friend who lives similarly to you and she also belongs to a group called "buy nothing". People post things they want to get rid of, and within hours someone local comes and picks it up! Great way to support one another and avoin waste.
Thank you for this post, you're doing very well. Kids don't need as much as they think they do, fun can be pretty cheap and helps them be more creative. I use a lot of vinegar for cleaning with rags. I haven't bought paper towels for so long that I can't even remember when.
So agree with you Marlene! My kids are much better off just playing outside then they don't have the messes to clean up. I need to use more vinegar too. I go in phases. Always appreciate you coming by!
@@TIDBITSandCompany hello I would like to know what do you guys watch on tv since you said you cut Disney, Netflix and all that..??😊 thanks in advance!!
Very sensible, and realistic advice. Too often, people tend to indulge without first thinking about alternatives that may be more economical and fulfilling in the long run. Simple pleasures and past times are so very enriching and just as fun.
I would love to hear about the salad dressings and sauces that you make. This has been a goal of mine, but I feel stuck and not sure where to start. Yes, a video on what you do by would be great. Thanks!
Great video! I love your makeup! You look just right...beautiful! Great info! I am older, and we have not invested enough for retirement, and I am thinking of ways to cut back. We actually spend a great deal on feeding our pets healthy food. I am watching your retirement video next! Thanks for sharing!
My goodness! Thank you for saying all that! I do worry about retirement too and if we are doing enough to support ourselves later on. Sometimes just the day to day is too much to think about! Really appreciate your thoughts!
hey girl- this was so interesting😀😉 Y'all are doing such a great job by cutting back on things. You are always so inspiring to me. My husband and I rarely eat fast food either. Since Covid we have only gone to Chick fila a hand full of times. We eat at home every day. And loving it.☺ I try to shop better and smarter when I get groceries to. Y'all have a wonderful day🥰
You definitely feel better when you train yourself to eat at home more!! Sounds like you are making great small changes. We've been moving this way for several years and it has really added up to make a big difference in our lives. Thanks for always stopping by and lifting me up through your comments.
very inspirational. i'm guilty of a lot of the things that you mentioned in the "do-not-buy" list...and I know I shouldn't but habits are so difficult to change. i will try harder though. Also, please tell Kevin to do a lot more gardening videos for us (if possible). 😊
Haha! Yes, habits are very hard to change. I should have mentioned a lot of these have been a gradual change over years. Especially the junk food changes. I will definitely pass the word on to Kevin! He just still feels so unsure of his methods but he is learning a lot!
@@TIDBITSandCompany You are both such nice people and so natural in front of the camera. And the things you guys do around the house and garden are really nice to watch and will definitely help others to follow suit.
I would love to know what you buy. Especially for making sourdough. We don’t need all the junk they tell us to purchase to be in style, be cool or to look good. Love how you and your husband are doing something to better yourselves and the family. ❤
Good to know! I'm going to have to work on that video! Currently I have bought all purpose einkorn flour in bulk for my sourdough. It just never did well on the whole grains. But then I use the whole grains to cook the end product. It seems to work pretty good. Loved your comment. Thanks for coming by today!
As a "senior", I applaud your goals. Although quite difficult to accomplish for most families, you are doing a great job. I am curious about one thing. I see on the video, your adorable puppy running around. What do you feed him/her? Do you buy kibble ($$$$$)?
Love all ideas and most I think you can do !!! I do think it’s easier for stay at home moms !!! But the food items were a great idea to help us to get started !!!!.,
Cami another great video. I enjoy listening to what other people do to save money... especially these days. My husband grows a large garden and we eat from it all summer and throughout the winter. We freeze most of our vegetables and fruits. We also have enough potatoes to last us the full year. I also find we feel much better when we are eating from our garden. Why would you want to wear any more makeup you look great just the way you are... and I truly mean that. I would enjoy hearing about the foods you replace your snacks
That is all so inspiring Beverly! We are working so hard to live just like that. You really do feel so much better eating your own food. And thank you so very much for the boost of confidence for my lack of makeup. So very sweet of you. I'm going to be thinking on that snack video. I've been learning a lot this last year on what else I can do for my kids that are home all day and not have to cook all day!
Oh yes!! Love Azure! Ok - I do also get a pedi once or twice a year when sandel season rolls around. My dry feet really need it every once in awhile. Maybe I should do a video on my splurges. Haha!
Thank you for watching! I currently I have bought all purpose einkorn flour in bulk to feed my sourdough. It just never did well on the whole grains. But then I use the whole grains to cook the end product. It seems to work pretty good. I'll use spelt berries, einkorn berries, or white whole wheat berries most of the time. I want to use Kamut but whenever I see it available it is so expensive!
I don't buy cleaning supplies and haven't for a long time. I use vinegsr, baking soda and essential oils. Our children are grown and out of the house and have careers, so hubby and I eat out more than we should. I work a 2nd job due to debt because of a scammer so sometimes a meal on the table isn't possible. We do not have cable TV or other subscriptions...except for SiriusXM in my SUV. I listen to Christian music. There isnt much we can cut out, really.
I loved your comment and ideas! I have a sneaking suspicion once we have kids out of the house we might eat out too. It made me so sad to hear that you got scammed and have to work to help with that. Oh this world! Truly sorry.
Good info, we are buying a house so we definitely need to rein in spending. Curious as to what your home business is. I can’t tell by your bio- do you mean TH-cam? If so, don’t let your other skills lapse as TH-cam creators are here one minute and gone the next.
Oh I know that challenge! And the house projects, landscaping, furnishings just never seem to end. Since we don't want to go into more debt for all that, we really have to find ways to save. I should do another vid about how we make money. Most is yes, through my online content creation. My blog is actually my most profitable and consistent. TH-cam has just started to be the last year. I'm hoping to grow that more because I really enjoy it! I also sell products over at tidbitsandcompany.com. But hubby is preparing our land to be lavender farmers, which we've been gearing up to do for years. He also sells beef with the few cattle he raises on our property. He also is currently making and selling saunas, and we think that business will grow quite well. So we are trying to keep our eggs in a lot of baskets - because just as you said - online is fickle and you don't have a ton of control. You might enjoy watching the video we did about retiring at 40.
As a one income family We saved by not going to the barber, shopped at thrift stores for clothing, didn’t go to movies, and bought used cars after a lot of research and bargaining.
That is amazing! Thank you so very much for sharing!! I forgot to mention the cell phone thing. My brother arranged for about 20 people on the same plan and we only pay about 15-20 a month for our phones too. Big money saver!
Veganuary held no appeal, so did Sobruary instead & now "dry" almost 4mo. The incentive was to fund local meat & fish, which is delivered every 6 weeks; the 😺😸had gently simmered haddock + fried chicken today, as they're 106mo old (100mo with us). High quality food has rekindled my enjoyment of cooking, so the 2 tier spice rack is fully stocked. Ditching the juice also means more energy, so the garden isn't being allowed to rewild & the plan, to get it ready for next year's growing season, seems entirely realistic; the brush cutter has been earning it's keep! It's odd that now I sometimes find myself getting ready for the weekly, grocery run & then realize that I don't need anything because of the deliveries & sticking to only necessary, basic items. Life seems slower & under greater control.
The cost of having a J O B is something you can uniquely express to your daughter by enlisting her to be your help at theHomestead & pay Her (im oldest child in a family of 7) Now grown & very capable.
You’re leaving out the cost of time and labor. A bag of flour is cheaper than loaves of bread - especially good bread from a bakery - but if you factor in the time and labor you’re adding to turn a bag of flour into loaves of bread … maybe not. I don’t buy fast food or pop-tarts or paper towels. Or make-up. But I have a job to support myself (paid hourly), and one of the trade-offs is, on the rare occasion when I want bread, I buy it. For me, baking bread to save money would just be a false economy. 🤷🏼♀️
This is the first video of yours I have ever watched, so I don't know anything about y'all, but you lost me at no caffeine... 😂 what's wrong with unsweetened green tea because it has been proven to be healthy. Surprised me that you didn't say thrifting for clothes as a reseller I can tell you that you can dress very nicely when you thrift.
From my perspective, most of which you mentioned are false needs, as opposed to real needs. We made a conscious decision to raise our family with intentionally, priortizing what seemed more basic and more meaningful over what seemed more socially engineered or estranged from true needs. As it turns out, bypassing all the junk and gimmicks as well as all the trappings and accoutraments seems to have been a blessing for us. Its as if you can hear more clearly once all the background noise is subsides.
I'm super sorry that was offensive. We raise them extremely humanly and feel it is much better for the earth and animals to try to provide our own meat. Thanks for watching!
Your husband is husband and provider. Why on earth would he “retire” at 48? I raised my sons alone. We never ate fast food, and we would only go to the local Italian restaurant for pizza on Fridays as a treat. We knew the owners and it was a nice time. We didn’t do vacations because I couldn’t afford it. And I cooked and still cook everything from scratch. I’m 71 and I’ve done this all my life. This is just common sense.
@@amandazplace5663 big whoop. I’ve been self employed. We will see how well he does at self employment. If you think it’s easier than working for someone else, you’re out of your mind.

Have you tried Azure Standard for your bulk foods? Check them out. Cut out manicures but can't give up pedicures...lol can't reach......
Oh yes!! Love Azure! Ok - I do also get a pedi once or twice a year when sandel season rolls around. My dry feet really need it every once in awhile. Maybe I should do a video on my splurges. Haha!
@@TIDBITSandCompany❤ I'd love that!
Can you do a meal plan of what you eat in a week ?
That is a great idea! I'll work on that!
What type of wheat berries do you use for your sourdough?
Enjoyed your video!
The Charter School Process would be a great segment.
Those are all amazing ways to save! The sacrifices are so worth it to be home with the kids.
PureTalk USA ($20-30 per month cell phone bill)! Been doing it several years and I have survived with only slightly less data.
That is amazing! Thank you so very much for sharing!! I forgot to mention the cell phone thing. My brother arranged for about 20 people on the same plan and we only pay about 15-20 a month for our phones too. Big money saver!
You rock
The cost of having a J O B is something you can uniquely express to your daughter by enlisting her to be your help at theHomestead & pay Her (im oldest child in a family of 7)
Now grown & very capable.
Stay away from large supermarkets as you tend to buy anything you buy I prefer to buy my groceries from my local grocer less items less spending
LOved the beginning but couldn't watch after you killed the cows
I believe she said he "retired" from his engineering job. They have started a business.
@@amandazplace5663 big whoop. I’ve been self employed. We will see how well he does at self employment. If you think it’s easier than working for someone else, you’re out of your mind.
@@AnastasiaRomanov-w9x you're rude and need to put some effort into writing less offensive comments. Have a day.
