Hello Daniel. This is beautiful video. We are watching you from California.
Thank you for sharing those points. My question is do you guys go to church? I am just fascinated by how many churches there are in Greece? Happy for your family. I hope one day I can take my boys there.

Uff, maybe the best video till now. Sparkled so many things to write you in the comments but right now, I think I just finish crying...
Watching from Prague, just had a picknick with portokalopita and ouzo with our neighbours today...
As you said in your last video, you must brainwash yourself...hahah, I am brainwashing myself with your videos - getting slightly addicted to them ;-)
It is so strange that so many people starve to come to Greece...and then return again and again... Anytime I step on the marble floor of Greek airport, I feel like I returned home...born in central Europe, no Greek relatives, my mind pointed towards Greece since I was a child...
Comparing London and Nafplio? I think only people that went their life-path long enough, thought often and long about what they want and what they are
missing, can understand that the comparison is fair.
I do not know why, but when I watch your videos, I think like, ok, Greece has its problems, but it does not have to be like that forever. Empires rose and fall, this country could be a heaven for their people one day!

Don't listen to those who say that you are not living the real greek life. We make our own life happy or miserable, by the way we think. Don't listen to the people saying that you live in your own bubble, because we all live in our own bubble, since every one of us is unique and sees things according to his own perception.

Since the first video I watched here, I can relate to your story and your decision to live in Greece. I've been to Crete 10 years ago, and since then I said one day I'd move to Greece. I'm Brazilian, I've lived in Israel for a bit more than 7 years (and loved it), I moved back to Brazil, and since 2019 I've been living in Paris. I've no chemistry with this city, especially with its horrible weather. That's what made me look for a job in a Mediterranean country, where I definitely belong. I'm relocating to Thessaloniki in a few weeks, and every time I watch your videos I know I made a good decision. It's definitely not about the money, although my salary won't be bad. It's about quality of life and many things money don't buy. I don't value luxury and a lot of things people value here in Paris. I love the sun, good food, people who look alive (not zombies as here), and learning new languages/ cultures. I'm pretty sure I'll be very happy in Greece. Thank you very very much for your videos. They always make me happy 😊

I'm Greek and the truth is that if you live in a big city you can't have work-life balance. You have a much better life if you live in a smaller city. So don't listen to what some greeks are saying. We may not have a lot of money but we have good quality of life!

People in the comments (younger generation) dont understand that by aging you constantly change habits. New experiences, new friends (lost of old friends because they are moving), new habits can drive you change radically your character. So from 30 to 40 you are a totally different person with different needs. After the fast pace life (London for example) you will be forced to explore a slower pace life with few and more unique (true) experiences.
Daniel thank you for the videos and keep on going. Life is magically connecting like-minded people.

I was a Navy brat and my dad got stationed in Crete and later Sicily. It got in my blood to travel. I went in the Navy myself primarily to travel. After that I did the Eurail and backpack around Europe. I hit a number of the Greek Isles and it was a dream. The food! Greek food has always been my favorite. A couple years later I went to live/work in Prague. I met my wife there and brought her back to the States. We're now looking at where to retire and Greece is looking tasty!😊

Hi, watching this video from Adelaide Australia, I'm travelling to Greece at the end of this month to stay in Monemvasia at my late fathers house for a month. I was born in a near by village called Velies but grew up in Australia. I have never visited Naphlio before but will try and see it this time around, I have been watching your videos and it looks so nice also being the first capital of modern Greece it is historically important, If I see you walking around I will say yasou.

Hello Daniel, my wife and I watch your show from Ontario, Canada, we watch all your stories and I think you give fair and honest opinions about your life in Greece......we have been lucky enough to have visited Greece 4 x times over 32 years. We loved Nafplion on our last visit and that whole area of the Greek mainland. It takes a lot of fortitude and willpower, not to mention sacrifices to move to another country and change your life! We are delighted for you and your family....keep up the stories as they are fascinating to watch and learn.

Always love your videos Daniel! Those greeks that say that you "dont live the greek life" i think they are in their own little depressing bubble. I live in Thessaloniki that is the second biggest city, and even though i work a regular job, the fact that i can at anytime take a stroll at the waterfront, in downtown Thesssaloniki, or go for a bicycle ride, thats the mostt rewarding experience for me as a greek. Your happiness starts from your mindset. Yes we all struggle in our own ways. But damn if i let my struggles stop me from enjoying some icecream or iced coffee by the sea...

Greece is, it seems to me, the most beautiful place to live in Europe because it combines many advantages and the best is the quality of life, in terms of food, sociability, feeling of community (to be maintained ) and the mutual aid that results from it, especially in medium-sized or even smaller towns. I really like the rhythm of work interspersed with a restful nap and then, when we are aware of the hours and closings of the stores, we organize ourselves... All that remains is to develop an online activity profitable, move, organize and settle in. (I'm writing from France)

Hi Daniel, I am of Greek heritage, and I finally had the chance to stay in Nafplio for 10 days. By the time I left a couple of people knew who I was, we said hello to each other. I think I know that exact route you're taking, that i used to take on my way to the beach. My roots are western Macedonia.
I myself love my Greek heritage but I also appreciate and love my Canadian lifestyle. ( where did you say you lived in Canada?)
I have been to Greece numerous times but I also want to see other places. I actually needed a break this year from Greece, but...I will certainly return. Thank you for your videos and I respect that you don't put other countries down. I enjoy your videos.

Είσαι ωραίος ρε, many of the reasons you are mentioned are the reasons why I haven't left Greece regardless of the everyday problem
I can't imagine myself unable to just have a coffee near the seaside - even if I have to prepare it at home
Or that sense of community - even in big cities with completely strangers
    Especially in troubled times
The only reason we didn't had an humanitarian in 2008-9 was that people from all walks of life prevented it by helping complete strangers
As for work - personal life (as we called in Greece) balance is something that people fought for, in the early 1900s there was no work schedules or day offs you basically worked from Dawn till sunset
I won't make it to long but in some point after a lot of struggle from the working class employers in some point in the 1920s found out that it was actually more efficient and cost effective to close shop for few hours giving holy days ect
It's not a coincidence that those schedules most of the time are broken by multinational franchises and not the locals
Even if - thanks to the financial crisis it's up to their discretion

Let me correct you if I am might . Greeks are working very hard to pay the Greeks that having good rest by “working” public sector and get in pension at 45 years old. And that is long story short of the Greek bankruptcy . Greece was second in growth after Japan world wide for two decades . Mid 50 to mid-70s. After 80s the “Greek dream” was to join the public sector and became early pensioner at 45 years old. I return from work every day at 19:00 , my neighbor is there from 14:30 and having a nap. I am British born and raised and have been living in Greece since 2007. Watching your video it is interesting to see your perspective. I live in Athens with my wife and daughter, wife is Greek and daughter born here in 2012.
We live in Athens and cost of living here is pretty expensive, however, when we go to the xorio in the South Peloponnese then life is much cheaper!
I agree completely that the genaralisation of Greeks being lazy is a total myth! They work just as hard as anyone else. I think the myth comes from the public sector which is the idea to get a cushy well paid job and to retire early with a good pension package! Also Greeks can be lazy when they drive, can't be bothered to use the indicators or just to go an extra 15 seconds to use the one way system, maybe more impatient than lazy.
Nafplio is a beautiful place, the Peloponnese in general is the most wonderful place to spend time, summer time in particular

Hi Daniel! So my parents were born/raised in Nafplion, but I was born in London. I always spent long summers in Nafplion, with family and go more or less every year. Despite being grateful for all the opportunities the UK has given me, I have always had a huge issue with the weather. it's like we are genetically unable to adapt, mentally. I often consider moving to Nafplion permanently, but always promptly shoot down the idea as I can't see how It can work for me financially, being in my early twenties and having yet to build a career. Hopefully I can find some workaround and get the hell out of here!
Edit: I presume you work remotely/ have a foreign income? Thanks!

ok don't get me wrong, you nailed pretty much everything, i just want to say for those who are watching if they are considering moving to Greece, that almost all these things you mentioned do not apply in Athens or Thessaloniki, where the majority of people in Greece live. The countryside is a different story and I've lived in Greek islands my whole life except the last 3 years I live in Athens, and trust me, the quality of life between living on an island vs living in Athens is mindboggling

    • @MyGreekLifestyle
      @MyGreekLifestyle  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

My videos are not about life in Athens, Thessaloniki, or any other big city where the majority of people live. My videos are about my life in a small town in Greece. If I was living on a Greek island then my videos would be about that. With that being said, the message of my video is about my past life in London and why I moved to Greece to live in a small town. Thanks for watching my video and for your comment.

Your story about belonging is actually a crisis for many Greek Americans and Greek Canadians who were raised by their parents and grandparents to be very Greek. We live in these countries but don’t necessarily feel like we are part of them.

    Greek gyros = Game changer!😂👍 I agree...
If you want to feel more Greek you sould you study history, not ancient history but recent history... It will be easy, there are many books in English. Did you know that Nafplio was the first capital after the revolution? Have you seen the church that Kapodistrias murdered? (By the way, I give the same advice to my Greek compatriots...)

@@Pavlos_Charalambous Yes indeed, when he came because of the situation he had to leave Nafplio and settle the government in Aegina.
The Kapodistrian governor's house in Aegina was rebuilt and reopened two years ago, I've visited it and it's worthy... They're also rebuilding the children's orphanage, which is also worthwhile. He went back to Nafplio when things got better.

It's the EXACT same situation in every country. There are people in Canada who are saying the exact same thing: "try living the Canadian dream with $3000 CAD/month salary, when rent for a 2 bedroom apartment is $2200/month, car insurance is $180/month, plus food, gasoline, children, phone, internet, prescription drugs, etc."
Do you know there are families in Canada that no longer can afford to eat meat? Forget about olive oil, unaffordable. Feta,... don't even think about it! There are poor and rich in every country. And there are plenty of rich in Greece too.

Well you should work more. Minimum wage in Greece is not 700 euros, but more. So instead of winning work more.
I live in Greece, in Piraeus, and I do live my Greek dream with a Greek wage. OK, my wage is good, after 35 years of work but not that huge. Life is good, mainly due to the sea that is everywhere, makes you forget any hardship.

Hey man, I'm kind of the opposite, I was born in Greece, went to school, college, worked for some years and now I live permanently in London!
I think it's important for everyone living in Greece, to have their own 'circle' of good friends who can understand and support them, a job where you're not employed by a Greek, and a good network of doctors/technicians/mechanics/teachers/professionals you can trust. And your own means of transportation. You really need to build your own bubble for you and your family, being protected from the hazzards of the greek reality. Kinda like wearing a hazmat suit in a post-apocalyptic world.
Really good to see you appreciating the country, getting the best of it, and being positive about it. We're lucky to have people like you

and just to add something about the weather:
Living in Greece by the sea enjoying the sun > UK rain and gloom > Living in a Greek big city, working overtimes while it's 45 Celcious outside, no AC, and you're sweating and struggling to breath because you're practically living in a sauna, not saving enough money to do for a 2 day holiday by the sea

I really liked how you mentioned that Greeks are far from lazy. This propaganda has been fed to the world since the beginning of the crisis years. Of course, there are always exceptions, but exceptions are not the rule. In fact, what needs to be said is that Greeks need to respect themselves more when it comes to work and business. This is something the majority doesn't do. It's time to straighten things out. Thank you very much for mentioning that!

Hi Daniel, your situation and other examples you brought is the exception and not the norm. Also comparing cost of living in London with cost of living in Greece in general, is totally irrelevant. Uk, and specially North England is considerably cheaper than Greece. If you can combine the benefits of both sides, then yes, its the ideal situation. But far from the normality of the average person managing to survive. Im not even touching the side of social abnormalities that the average person has to face.
