This is great argument for using what you have, and not getting too hung up on perfection. I mean, there's a whole lot of signature guitars hanging on CEO'S walls that have never been played, and probably never will be.
Josh Scott being given a brief tutorial on how to find cheap pedals on Amazon, is priceless...much unlike the affordaboard. The look on Josh's face was hilarious!

Wow, I picked up the ISET Flanger because of this video for $26.08 free shipping! It arrived in around 3 days if I recall, and it sounds great! Everything is solid and the switch is quiet through the amp and no white noise that I noticed in my setup. Thanks! I also have the Island on it's way to arrive this Friday.
All my pedals are "affordaboard" candidates, some of which I got after watching Ryan. My fav is the Cuvave Fuzz, but I love all the small format pedals. It's not only the price, it's the flexibility that you just cannot get from an all-in-one.
My buddy recently got back into playing and needed a new board so I showed him your channel and he's been working on his own Affordaboard based on your recommendations. His name is also Ryan haha
This was really enjoyable. The playing and creativity throughout was inspiring. I play through loads of those pedal parameters and sounds and think wtf am I doing. Then I hear this. My children are getting flangers every Christmas from now on.
First cuvave fuzz I got was glorious. I tried to buy a second as a backup and it sounded “fixed”. No bias gate shit. Booooo! Bought five more trying to find another. No dice. Dude... tell them to make them the old way! I was able to sell the ones I bought on reverb thankfully customers were happy with them.
It's Donner, short "o" and double-n, like the reindeer. The word means "thunder". The European (Turkish actually) meat dish is a Döner (Doener), one n, long "o", pronounced the same as one who makes a contribution to a cause. And now that's something you know. Great vid, I'll be buying some pedals in the near future. 👍👍👍😃😃😃
I like the Donner Reverb! It's called the Vintaverb. Definitely some modes better than other, and some noise, but it actually does some unique stuff I haven't seen anywhere! Infinite hold reverb with verb-d playover that feeds into it (it does get pretty loud when you do that so I run early chain into comp). Also DsVerb (distorted tails) is pretty cooo!
Donner does great pedals that go under the radar for some reason, but then again, that's good for us broke rockers who want to experiment and play with sounds without being discouraged by pricey pedals...
My come-to-stay cheapo pedals: Dolamo D-8( such dreamy basses), Tomsline Blues( for jazz, ha ha!) and Tomsline Overdrive/Distortion ( bit more break than the Blues...)(( both Tomsliners are FET btw...!!)) + NUX/KOKKO Amp Simulator: again darkish clean for Jazz, but in addition great SUSTAIN!! these cheapos work side by side with my 100-200€ pedals, and are a relevant part of my tone/tones...!!!
“I love noise. I’ve embraced the noise.” Haha…great commentary and impressive selection. Thank you for extremely helpful analysis of affordable pedals.
I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous. When I was recording and touring back in the day, we didn't have Amazon. We only had Guitar Center, Mars Music, and other brick and mortar shops. Effects pedal choices were limited to store stock and price was always a problem. It took years to assemble a board worth showing off. Now we have Amazon and other online retailers and access to quality effects options at a fraction of the price of a rack of Boss pedals. I actually still have all my old Boss pedals and admittedly, I am a bit surprised what they are worth today (more than I paid for them). Love this video. Saving it for reference later and I play with some lower cost effects options for my home setup.
yeah it's only got 2 transistors. i don't know what it is and i'd like to trace the circuit, but i've got enough fuzzes and it's not that different from a muff to be fair (also it's $40 now, not 20).
First affordaboard build out … trying out the caline Sundance special (bb preamp) and the andes (pure sky) over drive/boost, the mosky spring reverb, donner looper/drum machine…. And CUVAVE! Can’t wait to put it all together. Thanks for all the great content.
I am surprised by the cuvave and how it can clean up, i had to dime the amp treble , dime the tone knob, roll off all the fuzz, and back off the guitar volume just a hair. Clean to cleanish tones and then full distortion with guitar volume. Pretty awesome !
I bought the Dolamo overdrive based on this video and love it. It's nice as an always on but can dial up some distortion. It's great with a tube screamer. It's not as versatile as my Bogner Ecstasy Blue mini but sounds just as smooth. Combined with the Ecstasy, it gives me a decent aggressive overdrive with a lot of clarity.
Great episode! Josh is such a cool guy - it always amazes me how open he is about reviewing essentially a ton of his competitor’s products. I love JHS Pedals, but can’t afford an entire JHS hoard, that where these afford-a-board pedal reviews really help out. I have that Mosky “Spring Reverb” mini pedal. Playing thru my original/vintage 1965 Fender Champ amp, it really sounds amazing! I bought on Amazon, on sale for 50% off ($15 brand spanking new), and I love it.
Appreciate the always nuanced opinions of afford-a-board options. I just picked up the Mosky Reverb after viewing this review. It's a lovely reverb in any class. Thanks! Never would have found it if not for your review. Best to you guys.
I too thought that the Mosky Spring Reverb had a bar code design, but it's actually replicating the three springs of a reverb tank. Nice pedal. I like mine a lot.
I realize this is counter to the "cheap" ethos being promoted, but I'm curious as heck about the pickup selection and wiring of that BILT guitar. I'll have top visit Josh's channel to see if there's more info on this unique assembly of parts.
Cheers me up every time I see it, and I think I am spending more time watching Ryan's videos playing guitar with pedals than I am spending learning how to play my guitar with pedals......
Funniiy enough it didn't. I think guitar 'buyers' just became crazier in the past couple of years. Luckily most normal people put the blame on them rather than Josh.
I have that Spring. I have a Blue Delay that's nice too. But my fav of the bunch is a Moskey MM Silver overdrive, prob the best bang for the buck pedal I've ever played. I also endorse the Hosa pancakes.
That Dolamo overdrive is a rebranded Caline Highway Man. I opened mine up, and it has the Caline board inside. I also opened up my Movall Minotaur, which is a rebranded Azor AP-320, their Klon clone. All current Movall pedals are rebranded Azor ones (the older ones were somehow affiliated with Tone City), and all Dolamo and Pignose pedals I've seen are rebranded Caline ones. There's also many mini pedals, from Outlaw effects, Stax, Iset, and several others, that are rebranded Rowin pedals.
I LOVE the reverse delay section with the Donner Island. It’s so beautiful, I’ve never really figured out how to use reverse delay. That was a master class for sure
I've got the Donner Echo Square on my board and it has the reverse on it. My used $28. Made me take a Boss DD-5 off the board. 7 different delays. Great pedal next to a C Copy for 2 delays on board.

Thank you both! Can't tell you HOW MUCH I enjoyed that lil' tidbit of valuable entertainment.
My come-to-stay cheapo pedals: Dolamo D-8( such dreamy basses), Tomsline Blues( for jazz, ha ha!) and Tomsline Overdrive/Distortion ( bit more break than the Blues...)(( both Tomsliners are FET btw...!!))
+ NUX/KOKKO Amp Simulator: again darkish clean for Jazz, but in addition great SUSTAIN!!
these cheapos work side by side with my 100-200€ pedals, and are a relevant part of my tone/tones...!!!
In the UK, the first Harry Potter movie is called the Philosophers Stone. This afford-a-board video is the Philosophers Tone!! Lol! 🤣🤣
“I love noise. I’ve embraced the noise.” Haha…great commentary and impressive selection. Thank you for extremely helpful analysis of affordable pedals.
Are we just glossing over the “Space Bathroom” reverb? I need THAT pedal ASAP.
Caline is my favorite affordable pedal company
Can we please get more videos with these guys. I could listen to them review/talk all day. Like peanut butter and chocolate baby!
The roadcase theme song gets me everytime. It's the audio equivalent of a really bad dad pun
This is my favorite video from both of you. I’d love to see you hanging out and demoing more stuff, just casual like this.
Good cork sniffing guess on the Cuvave, JHS. It has a Muff style tone stack but the fuzz design is not a Muff.
yeah it's only got 2 transistors. i don't know what it is and i'd like to trace the circuit, but i've got enough fuzzes and it's not that different from a muff to be fair (also it's $40 now, not 20).
@@calinguga Fuzz Face perhaps?
turns out it's a zvex woolly mammoth (look for bushidov on tdpri)
First affordaboard build out … trying out the caline Sundance special (bb preamp) and the andes (pure sky) over drive/boost, the mosky spring reverb, donner looper/drum machine…. And CUVAVE! Can’t wait to put it all together. Thanks for all the great content.
I am surprised by the cuvave and how it can clean up, i had to dime the amp treble , dime the tone knob, roll off all the fuzz, and back off the guitar volume just a hair. Clean to cleanish tones and then full distortion with guitar volume. Pretty awesome !
“Just the same dumb noodling thing that doesn’t mean anything and has no origin.” That’s my rut too 😞
I bought the Dolamo overdrive based on this video and love it. It's nice as an always on but can dial up some distortion. It's great with a tube screamer. It's not as versatile as my Bogner Ecstasy Blue mini but sounds just as smooth. Combined with the Ecstasy, it gives me a decent aggressive overdrive with a lot of clarity.
OK Josh asks "are these oxygen free cables?" You said "Is your cable cool?" If you do an entire video on the patch cables, I would be interested.
“I’m angry and cheep”
Josh: “That makes you a philosopher.”
Space-bathroom reverbs are awesome.
Appreciate the always nuanced opinions of afford-a-board options. I just picked up the Mosky Reverb after viewing this review. It's a lovely reverb in any class. Thanks! Never would have found it if not for your review. Best to you guys.
Josh is like an encyclopedia of riffs and effects!!!
Josh is that guy! He just loves pedals and tells the truth. Great video!
I found this channel through that jhs “does it drip” live show. Great channel. Great humor from this guy. Sorry I don’t know his name, I’m new here.
This was one of my favorite vids you have ever done. So cool to get his views on affordable pedals.
Anyone who calls it "New X" is a cop
Seriously
Josh is such a legend, love my Notaklon pedal I got from JHS
I too thought that the Mosky Spring Reverb had a bar code design, but it's actually replicating the three springs of a reverb tank. Nice pedal. I like mine a lot.
I realize this is counter to the "cheap" ethos being promoted, but I'm curious as heck about the pickup selection and wiring of that BILT guitar. I'll have top visit Josh's channel to see if there's more info on this unique assembly of parts.
its a little bit of everything
Ryan: "I've never been accused of not being bright enough."
25:38 Josh's pants: "Hold my beer."
i fell in love with that donner delay pedal but I can't seem to find one for sale anywhere :(
Dammit, Ryan, you have the best intro on the whole webbernet.
Cheers me up every time I see it,
and I think I am spending more time watching Ryan's videos playing guitar with pedals than I am spending learning how to play my guitar with pedals......
What a good hang. Its a lot of fun to hear Josh's tech talk during this as well.
Fun fact: after Josh has said that Dolamo sounds kinda like the Klon, the pedal immediately went out of stock everywhere, and the price skyrocketed.
Josh’s a great guitar player! Like his style
The Mosky reverb sounds awesome
I LOVE the reverse delay section with the Donner Island. It’s so beautiful, I’ve never really figured out how to use reverse delay. That was a master class for sure
I've got the Donner Echo Square on my board and it has the reverse on it. My used $28. Made me take a Boss DD-5 off the board. 7 different delays. Great pedal next to a C Copy for 2 delays on board.
I've been trying to get my hands on one of those Donner Island Delay pedals since I watched this video and they have been sold out for months!
I just bought one on Donner web site USA today ! $69 on sale free delivery !
Josh Scott is a mad genius. I love that dude
