As a young (16) pedal builder, youve been my biggest inspiration. When I was 13, I asked my dad if he could buy me some pedals. He told me that i should try to build some myself. Since then Ive built 30-40 pedals and a eurorack synth. When I discovered you and your show I immediatly fell in love. Thank you for everything Josh, youre the person i want to become one day.
30 to 40 pedals on your own?? such a cool story! imagine my disappoint when I went to your channel and discovered only a single upload entitled CUCUMBERS.MP4 🥲

Amazing episode! JHS must put the sound of that tunnel in a "The tunnel" reverb pedal. But it have to be stereo just to us to see Josh demoing it and saying "I don't really care about stereo".
I love this company…. Bought 3 JHS pedals last year because of watching their show and appreciating how they represent all pedals and the industry…..thanks y’all
Best thing about Josh is while growing his own business, he has spent time educating musicians about pedal and amp circuits and how each one affects their sound, which is a huge contribution to humanity!
I grew up in Ecru! This is absolutely unbelievable to me. I worked at McCoy’s Grocery on main street for 5 years. Insane that there was a time that Josh was essentially in my back yard. Wild.
Because of their TH-cam vids, I bought myself a JHS pedal. They rarely promote their products and rather review other pedal companies’ pedals. What a wholesome way to promote their company.
I mention that all the time when I talk to people about this channel. It's awesome to mention that every episode isn't just a JHS commercial or a Demo. I'm not a hard core pedal user, but I come back to this channel all the time to see people genuinely excited to talk about stuff the people around them are doing, even if it could influence someone to spend their money elsewhere.
Gandalf and Frodo in that wide shot. I mean that in the most respectful and loving of ways. So glad you guys found eachother. I've spent like 1400 dollars on jhs pedals and now feel like I should go buy the packrat becauseof that comment.. ok doing that now.
It always starts with a “weird kid” pretty soon they have a factory full of like minded Weird kids making awesome stuff for other weird kids. Normals scare me with thier milquetoast blank eyes. Keep it Weird! I miss radio shack 😖 surfing the digikey website isn’t the same as being able to bring a meter in and test and match all your components in a dirty lil strip mall.
What I have learned by 3:29: - this should have been a musical. - something happened at Josh’s graduation that stopped his ageing. - Josh is freakishly tall.
I really loved hearing your story Josh! I remember seeing the Tupelo Press picture of you and thinking man this guy is so young! I think everyone in the effect world is so glad you went down the electronics/modification/pedals/business-building rabbit hole! Indeed, you're a multiplicative factor in the effects world, so much more than just the simple assimilation of great branding and awesome sounding pedals.
I loved everything about this episode! The 60 minutes style opening, the story, the conclusion....everything! It made me incredibly proud to own a few JHS pedals in my pedal arsenal that I am slowly building. I am sure I will buy more JHS Pedals in the near future! I actually felt a little bad because I remember way back in the day that Josh was selling a modded Big Muff, I believe, and I did not have the funds to buy and it sold out before I saved up enough. . I think it was in that period where Josh was overwhelmed and working 18 hours a day in a shed. But I am supporting yall now! :) The one thing I really like about the JHS story is that Josh truly paid his dues and now he is enjoying the fruits of his labor. I mean come on, did Josh ever really think he would be part of the Guiness Book of World Records biggest pedal board or work on a musical about pedals?? And now he has! But what I really loved in this story is Josh acknowledging that JHS is just a name now where he has built an incredible team of individuals to bring JHS to the masses (and not burn himself out). Truly Josh is an American success story! Also I just also want to give a shoutout to Nick and whoever else that produces these videos. I have a background in TV and I can safely say that these videos are some of the best videos on TH-cam! Truly a pleasure to watch every time. Also let me just give a shout out to the whole JHS company! Y'all are incredible in what you do day in and day out! I say all this to say, "Long Live, JHS! "
This is where the integrity began as you have paid your dues Josh... really a fantastic success story and knowing what you've been through to get it is inspiring.. which is what u are all about providing guitar players with w your pedals to begin with..hats off to you.. enjoy your life..! Make us more killer stuff!..,🙏🎸🎶🤪🔥
The ending definitely showed how much the entire company means to Josh and Nick. As much as they were trying to throw in their joke/sarcasm, the emotions were there and real, and this is what makes the show such a personal thing to watch every week.
I have only 2 JHS pedals, but they are both in the ALWAYS ON category! The Whitey Tighty, and the Prestige, they bookend the rest of my board with the Whitey Tighty keeping the junk in place from the start, and the Prestige sending it buffered and boosted out the end. Love the playfulness of the pedals, they are reflections of the playfulness that comes from the people who make them. Keep that spirit flowing! Listen to Safeword!
I literally love watching your videos. But this is this best one by far. I love the behind the scenes small detals of how you’ve gotten to be where you are now. From humble beginnings to becoming a major leader in the custom pedal business. You and your JHS family are awesome!! Plus, you’re funny.
At 73 years of age, you guys have become part of my rock revival. I’m heading down the rabbit hole to choose a stamp to put on my Harmonic Trem. Wishing you heath happiness and continued success. Rob
Amazing, inspiring! Thanks for the recap! Glad I got the chance to trade pedals for records back in the day! Still have a giant all JHS pedalboard! Hopefully Josh still has some of the records 🤣
I’ve been inspired by this. I’m quitting my job and starting my own company to compete with JHS. On second thought, starting a pedal company is INSANE…
One of the greatest JHS history videos ever! I absolutely loved this, really makes the show feel so human and connecting. Love the way you guys have stuck it out this far, your now an amazing product/family that can actually connect with customers and individuals that love the interests. I'm hoping to buy a JHS compressor soon, would the JHS 3 series compressor be more more limited if I got that over the PulpNPeel?
That tunnel is objectively amazing. It seems architected for big wet sound. I dig the concrete stairs at the end spreading out the delay time to give a softened echo instead of a hard slap-back you'd get from a flat wall.
My pedal chain has Wampler Ego76>JHS MGV4>JHS Packrat>JHS Notaklön>Wampler Moxie>REVV x Glenn Fricker Northern Mauler for the "drive" section. It's a ridiculously beautiful set-up. And if it wasn't for JHS, I wouldn't have reignited my love for playing and learning and gear. Josh makes sick overdrives. It's his bread and butter. Much love to you all.
Thank you for a fine episode. I know I am in the minority, but I prefer these structured shows to the live stream stuff. Thank you for the excellent products and wishing you all great success.
Maybe the biggest reason JHS is successful is Josh saying, "I needed someone to argue with me." That's a great attitude for a boss -- I tell people who work for me, "if I'm doing something stupid tell me!" -- and explains a lot about why the JHS team looks like a great place to work. If people won't tell you the truth, or if you won't accept them telling you the truth, you cannot make good decisions. This is the second time I've watched this. It just feels good to watch. Thanks!
This is what the show needed. A history lesson on JHS Pedals. Please make this a reoccurring thing. Say every 2-3 years. It's important to the history of effects pedals fo sho!
Jackson, MS Native here: It’s so weird to see y’all walking around to different spots in Jackson that I drive past every day and don’t give a second glance. Thanks for telling this story!
Got a funny story about pedal modding…back in the day I needed a particular cap to try on a Tube Screamer mod. Walked into Radio Shack. Found the part and start talking with the guy behind the counter. He says billionaire Ross Perot was just in the store looking for a multimeter. Perot had pulled up in a beat up van. Perot refused to buy the multimeter when he discovered it didn’t come with batteries. Oh the days of modding and Radio Shack…
On a real note the JHS show has been so helpful for me during one of the hardest years of my life. I've learned so much about guitar and pedals through this show which has made my love for them even greater. The pedal demos are great but my favorites are the nerdy deep dives into the history and the how's and why's of gear that has shaped the world of music in which we live today. This show has also inspired me to get into building pedals of my own! This episode is so inspiring and if any of yall see this just wanna thank you from one of your many fans. Keep up the great work!
This is a piece of history JHS. I had stopped watching videos cause I was just snowed over with work. But getting back to see this... It was not only funny at times, but also heart-warming. I wish each and every one of you success and prosperity. Warmest regards from Peru.
Y'know, I definitely remember the "JHS Mods" era, but I had no idea about the whole story. I was really active on Harmony Central and The Gear Page back from 2002-2012, ish. But over the last decade a lot less so, really. This is amazing to see, and fun to follow up about after all these years. I especially love that metamodern sincerity at the end. Thanks for keepin' on.
Amazing. Such a great homegrown story. This has become my favorite show within the last month or so of discovering it. @jhspedals I have a burning question that I cant find an answer to anywhere online, and figured that one of you guys may have the answer to. Soo here it is: Does anyone (even viewers) know what the D1 diode in the BOSS DS-1 is responsible for. The one in mine cracked (i assume from a surge.. ?), so i clipped it out completely, which in turn made it into a weird fuzz pedal. Keep on rocking guys! Y'all are an inspiration to a fella.
Do a documentary about how a bunch of dudes from the super south managed not to have any southern accent or grow up to sound like a bunch of hicks. Being from Texas myself, I thought I was an anomaly to not sound as stupid as all my friends.
Dude, I TOTALLY had that tunnel in my high school! It connected the high school to the Jr. high school (this was pre-middle school days). It's since been filled in and I never thought to drag my early 80s synths down there. If only I had then maybe *I* would be master over a pedal company now.
This video was a real treat. Amazing and inspirational look into Josh’s journey. Key takeaways for me are 1) hard work ethic 2) perseverance 3) surrounding yourself with good people - all together lead to great things. I wish Josh and JHS all the best in all their future endeavors. They deserve all the success in the world right next to all the other large great pedal companies. The JHS Show is also genius and binge-watch worthy, Nick’s brainchild is awesome and can’t wait to see more of it. This was a long comment. But you guys made me feel it with this one. I never experienced the feeling of being teary eyed & wanting to buy pedals at the same time. There. I’m done. Thanks guys.
I was watching TH-cam to get info for us new guitar learners. Looking into my first pedal purchase. Analog vs Multi effects...... I come across a few of your videos and immediately subscribed. Since then it's watching you talk about all the history of different pedals, companies. I found a new love for music i never knew was possible. Thank you
I'm getting into songwriting and guitar playing after like a 10-year hiatus. After bingeing on JHS videos for about a week, I'm in love with you guys. I'm moving back to Springfield, MO after far too long on the west coast, and hope our paths cross sooner or later. Keep up the good work and the good vibes, my friends!
Man. One of, if not the first person to influence me towards electric guitars was an older guy down the street. His sister was our age but a couple of us went down there and hung out with him and watched & listened to him play his guitar. He was actually really good. We were like 12 or 13 and he was like 18+ so he was just the coolest guy in the entire neighborhood. Especially because he let us hang out while he played. I never forgot those days we spent over there. They lived like 4 houses down from me so I was there alllll the time. They moved off and I didn't get my first real guitar for 26 more years. And it's partly because if him that I have one. Unfortunately, I found out that he passed away a couple of years ago so I won't get the chance to tell him that. Though I did leave condolences & a message on his obituary, telling his family of how he inspired me to learn to play and how I never forgot about him letting us watch/hear him play all those years ago.
Beautiful. So great to see and hear about a success story, which appeared it would fail before it ever began. Like so many stories of those who did not have the same passion, focus, motivation, willingness, support… I think this can be summed in one word: LOVE. I wish for continued and sustained success for all of you. Everyone at JHS. The staff and their families. Your business partners and friendly-competitors… Bless You. Much Love ❤️
Josh is the one who got me excited about pedals. Once I get my house, my next hobby will be pedal building. The Stew Mac kits seem like a good place to start.
What an awesome story! As a previous small business co-owner, I know the ups and downs, and roller-coaster times of running a small company, and it's not trivial at all. You seem to have built a family with your business, and that's even harder to do, but the rewards are worth it! Good luck on whatever future endeavors come your way!!
A beautiful story, thanks for sharing! I started messing with guitars and associated electronics in the early/mid '70s and wanted to do something gear related. Got my Engineering degree the year Josh was born and started my corporate job. Never really got around to doing much with building/modifying pedals, amps etc. I truly admire that Josh and families had the courage to stay after it and make it work!
Great story and video! Two things: First, behind most entrepreneur success stories (like Josh’s) is a supportive family that believes in the idea and is willing to risk larger financial failure to make it work. It’s always a unique guy or girl who has a wild idea and is driven to do it beyond most normal people. That can’t work without enormous support from loved ones. Second, it was really smart to tell the same story twice. Once on location and the other in the shop. It kept the whole thing really interesting.
I just want too say JHS is one of the most honest and genuinely enthusiastic about pedals that is so commendable and inspiring. JHS made me want to play bass, Then to get into pedals. Now I’m trying to start a club and change my major. Thank you.
A fascinating look at the evolution of what looks to be a very cool company. What a great place to work! Having said that, I would have replaced the hand sequence with maybe some super-slo mo shots of Josh and the gang playing frisbee and laughing...now THAT'S when the teardrops would start...
This brought back memories for me as well. I was actually a guitar teacher in Tupelo before main street guitars or Tupelo consignment existed. I went on to work as a touring and session musician in Hawaii touring all over asia Oceania until health problems ended my career in 2007-2008. I enjoy what you guys do in the pedal world and on here. Keep up the good work.
This had to be a very difficult video to get right and you guys knocked it out of the park. It makes me smile that much wider when I see the JHS pedals on my boards.
Such a great show. Massive respect to what you've done in such a short time from fixing a pedal stomp switch to employing 40 people, having fun, doing what you love.xxx
I wish I had discovered this company earlier when I still lived in Mississippi! I am from Jackson and love that this business has ties to Mississippi and Jackson! What a great story! I am so a fan now!
I find it unsettling that he never really did answer the question about where he was during the Wall Street crash of 1929.

Josh needs to design a reverb pedal around that tunnel. "The Tunnel."
I think "Underpass" would be catchier, nay, more marketable.
“Deep hole” 🫣
"Stink pipe"
"Tunnel Vision"
Where can I buy it?
Less than 2 minutes in, and I'm already convinced. I don't know what I'm convinced of, but I'm convinced
Tred brundy. I’m convinced
I am convinced that you are convinced
I’m not easily convinced but you’ve convinced me that your convinced

Hmmmmm Convincing
What I really get out of this is that Josh's wife and her family are the heroes that embraced Josh's obsession and gave all sorts of support to help get him from struggling startup to successful company. Maybe take her on a nice vacation away from the cold winter of Kansas City.
Amazing episode! JHS must put the sound of that tunnel in a "The tunnel" reverb pedal. But it have to be stereo just to us to see Josh demoing it and saying "I don't really care about stereo".

Yes!! Please!!!
this is absolutely necessary!
I’d buy it.
Green Tunnel Reverb
“Is JHS just a tall man with weird hobbies?”
Yes.
Yes he is. And the world is better off for it

Also Yes?
I love this company…. Bought 3 JHS pedals last year because of watching their show and appreciating how they represent all pedals and the industry…..thanks y’all
Same, but I got the double barrel, so technically 2. 🤪
JHS took over my board. I bought the morning glory v4 and it’s spiraled to adding the lucky cat, unicorn, and supreme fuzz to my board
I got the Angry Driver last year... what a nice pedal.
Me too! 3 series Fuzz and Reverb, and a Kodiak. Plus the show inspired me to buy my first boss pedal ever!
Thank you!!!!
You need to create a pedal that replicate the reverb effect from that tunnel!
JHS TunnelVerb pedal!
Awesome idea
Now I need to find a tunnel to play in.
We’ve had spring, plate, hall, shimmer… and now creepy damp tunnel.
first find a stamp for that

@jhspedals I have a burning question that I cant find an answer to anywhere online, and figured that one of you guys may have the answer to.
Soo here it is:
Does anyone (even viewers) know what the D1 diode in the BOSS DS-1 is responsible for. The one in mine cracked (i assume from a surge.. ?), so i clipped it out completely, which in turn made it into a weird fuzz pedal.
Keep on rocking guys! Y'all are an inspiration to a fella.
The diode D1 is protection against reverse polarity connections, in case the player connects a wrong power adapter.
@@TheChainsofAlice thanks! Gonna replace it and see how my first repair goes. Cheers!
Great story about Josh's humble beginnings. I love the fact that Josh loves all pedals and doesn't seem to be biased to only his own stuff.
Do a documentary about how a bunch of dudes from the super south managed not to have any southern accent or grow up to sound like a bunch of hicks. Being from Texas myself, I thought I was an anomaly to not sound as stupid as all my friends.
As a small business owner, I'm taking note. Admire his leadership style and open door approach. Inspiring!
There. I’m done. Thanks guys.
no joke. JHS is kind of an American inspiration. What a great story.
Josh’s son did a good job.
So glad there are businesses out there like JHS, great pedals, great journey.
Quality products but they are even higher quality individuals. Well done Josh and team.
This episode is why i always keep a jhs pedal on my board.... even if i dont use the pedal...
Josh... keep your humility... you are a wonderful man
My only question every ep. is: "Does he have the box?"
I just want to buy some JHS pedals now. Seriously I never had one before I dont know why. what a cool dude and company. I hope you guys thrive.
Every time I watch an episode of the JHS show, I smile. And right now, in these times, it’s a big deal. Thank you.
How was this such an emotional experience? Thanks for sharing the history, the pedal infatuation, and the passion of JHS with the rest of us!
As a Mississippian love all the MS history JHS is an awesome part of our modern music culture!
Having said that, I would have replaced the hand sequence with maybe some super-slo mo shots of Josh and the gang playing frisbee and laughing...now THAT'S when the teardrops would start...
dude, this video felt like a mother´s hug, so warm and sweet! hope we can have more videos with this format
What a tear jerker! Know what you are good at and get others who do what you suck at.
I laughed, I cried. It became a part of me...:0)
“They had a bigger shed” (for jhs to move into.) just awesome.
Man, I've loved the pedal show for years now, but seeing the origin story adds so much more depth. Awesome work guys
I just bought the jhs 3 reverb pedal. Plain white, no fancy designs, functionality it’s beautiful!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, these startup stories, actual tell of the remembrance of blood, sweat, and tears.
OMG! The 60 Minutes intro had me laughing from the jump! Well done, well done! 👏
Nick's rim rattler @23:50 - epic. Play it at 50% speed.
Major hops. Props, son.
Youse built an EMPIRE…no brags just facts! y’all are just inspiring. i`d hope to be 1/10 of a person you are Mr. Josh.
Josh only lives in places that have been immortalised in songs: 'Jackson'... 'Tupelo'... 'Kansas City'... 'Ecru'... okay, MOST places.
