My favorite p’n’w trope is to have like 5 different “transparent” ODs that you stack and then running direct in with no amp or cab sim, so you final high gain sound is super mushy and over compressed, while also sounding like a soundboard blowing up. That plus a reverb with the mix too high and you’re in guitar heaven (pun intended)
@edised71 well, I didn't actually use say the word band, but that's ok. Often church bands are called worship teams. I live in South Korea, and I play worship at a nearby university for international students, and I play in a Korean rock band that definitely leans into metal.
@edised71 ohhh. Well it's not like a rock band will play in a church. Does that mean churches in France wouldn't have even a guitar player? Modern worship has a lot of guitar.
This is the exact video I needed! You're awesome mate. Needed help picking a few pedals for my Budget Worship Board and have been watching the Afford-A-Board series for a while now. Thank you!
As someone who bought the Blessed Mother drive pedal just to play at my Catholic church camp, and who has a fish-shaped tambourine as well, I really appreciate the dedication to the cross-board. Love it. ❤
A Psalm of Praise. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves: we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. I bought the big one, unfortunately there was a small volume drop when activated. The Mooer Mod Factory is the same pedal as the small Flamma, and it didn't have that problem, so that was a keeper for me.
Excellent video! Bro, I actually have a Flanger pedal on my worship board. Amazing swooping, airy sound. I always have overdrive and chorus on. Be blessed.
I'm not particularly churchy but mad points for the thumbnail and corny humor. Your joy, humor and wonderful life certainly go a long way towards evangelizing for the cause. But I worship at the Choich of Fuzz and molten space rock is my Gawd. Pray on and play on, funk soul brother! 🎶🎵🎶🎶❕❕❕
The Nux Edge Delay is probably the best delay for this board, since it does have tap and a smart sub division thing that should be able to do dotted 8. I've even considered one myself for my own more Dreampoppy stuff.
I use that iSet Booster as a siphoned off pre-pedal before a fuzz, more like a retro rocket, since some fuzzes like to react to an anemic nothing-signal and it's great.
Of course you can just run that stereo into whatever your amp modeler of choice is at the end. However the Flamma Preamp does have cab modeling as well and sounds pretty good. Gives you a variety of amp sounds also. If it were me and I wanted a self contained direct board, I would remove the Fuzz and put the Preamp between the drives and verb. Maybe an idea for a future video!
Great vid! There’s more guitar in modern worship music than anything on the radio today. If you want to improve your guitar chops, join a church band ✌️🙌 Might I suggest for the P&W Affordiboard the Joyo D-Seed 2 Delay. Has tap tempo and a favorite switch to toggle delays.
I'm having a hard time following the wiring schematics of where exactly you have that wah/volume pedal inserted. Which pedal is going into it...and what pedal is it going into? I'd appreciate your reply...as I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to where I should wire an expression/volume pedal into my board. Currently, I keep my wah at the very beginning of my board(as I see most people doing so)...so is your volume/wah pedal the first one in your chain featured in this video?
My bass pedalboard is an unintentional afford-a-board All pedals bought used for $60 or less in Canadian dollars I use three of them at church, and I have used it with guitar at church swapping out one of the pedals I don’t use at church with a non afford-a-board for an Empress Distortion pedal So for bass, octave >volume pedal>AutoWah>chorus>EQ. For guitar, I would add reverb, delay & dirt.
I’ve noticed that have a loop for tap delay with reverb, a loop for a lead sound, loop for just reverb and a loop with nothing is like 70% of playing at church. Just lots of time based stuff. U2 inspired Hillsong and Hillsong inspired Bethel/Jesus Culture and now we have modern worship music.
This was a really cool video. I'm not exposed to praise and worship music/gigs, but I thought this was a great video for ambient boards in general. I'll refer to this to get similar sounds, which I really like. I would love to see a video where you focus on some music made with this board!

6:27 "it's only a cab sim... not an amp sim": last time I played in church, I was using a UA Dream 65 for my 'amp' but I was using an IR in my HX Effects for the cab. Something happened during service and I was really digging the sound, especially because I'd been really wrestling the rig leading up to this (turned out the problem was my cheap in-ear monitors)... after service I looked down, and to my horror, the UA pedal was off. I accidentally clicked it off somewhere, probably during sound check. Sounded better without my fancy amp sim. You 100% don't 'need' an amp sim for P&W tones. At my church, you absolutely do need to be able to go direct to house (you're not invited if you can't).
Excellent. And it's conveniently dial purpose, as all you need to do is turn it the other way up and cover it it in distortion pedals and a Death By Audio Fuzz War and you've got a black metal nkt-so-afford -a-board.
