If you like what you saw and own a PS4/PS5, keep in mind that the game is on sale on the Playstation Store when this video is uploaded. Also, make sure to leave a comment if you know about a similar futuristic racing game featuring cars or motorbikes, I would love to play more of them. Thank you for watching!
Another game that is similar to this is Rise: Race the Future which is available on the Switch or PC. You race on tracks, dirt, and even water as your vehicle transforms into a boat to traverse the water sections . It actually got pretty good reviews. I haven’t bought it, but it is on my wish list.
Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I'm actually in the same situation as I saw the game by accident on another racing channel called S2riker. I immediately thought of Xenon Racer when I saw it and was happy that there was at least one more similar futuristic racing game. Thanks again for the tip!
@@AGRacingCentral That's right! How did I not think of this one... There's a tragic story behind Rise: Race the Future, if memory serves me it was developed by 2 French guys, one of whom passed away. That is supposed to be why it wasn't released on other platforms. It is a fantastic game too, and probably one of the most visually striking games on the Switch.
There was a game on android and iOS called AG Drive, which was heavily WipEout inspired… but then it kinda just died. It’s not even on the app store anymore. Also, ERS stands for Energy Recovery System. F1 cars have it, as for most hybrid cars on the road.
Thanks, I don't follow F1 so I had no idea. Of course, I knew about the system in hybrid cars but I'm pretty sure they gather more reserve energy from braking rather than drifting :)
I'd recommend the newest Hot Wheels game. It's pretty fun and made in Unreal Engine, so the visuals are crisp. Gameplay is mostly very smooth too once you get a hang of the drifts
I played the first Hot Wheels Unleashed a bit and found it very enjoyable. I haven't made videos about it yet since I didn't think it quite fitted my channel but I may have second thoughts about that. Thanks a lot for your comment, Hot Wheels was a great suggestion of a similar game.
You're totally right :) Perhaps in a slightly more gritty and dystopian setting but I guess that the vehicle design is relatively similar between both games.
I really wanted to like this game, but it just does not feel good to me. The cars feel like absolute bricks that don't want to turn, and if you miss a single corner and bonk the wall you've ruined your entire lap, probably your entire race. I tried a lot but gave up in the end.
To be honest, I can see what you mean. To me, the presentation of the whole game is top notch which makes me like it a bit more than I should. Also, I think it's very satisfying when you actually manage to handle the track well and avoid the aformentioned wall bumps :)
Now that you mention it, the game does give off strong Ridge Racer vibes :) I think RR7 is a PS3 game but it might be playable through streaming on PS Plus. If that is the case, of course I have to check it out!
@@AGRacingCentral initially I couldn't get in to Xenon, no matter how hard I tried till I unlocked a drift heavy machine and the old RR muscle memory kicked in . Then I upgraded all the machines to be a more drift oriented and my view of Xenon changed. Drifting still is funky sometimes but man it's a fun game.
This is one I highly recommend, it's a fantastic game. Only downside for me is that, despite being advertised as 4K on PS5, it is not. It's clearly 1080p, as you can see either by playing it on PS5, or watching footage such as this: th-cam.com/video/PM39LNqxHHc/w-d-xo.html It's just a game that wasn't upscaled from its PS4 version (shame because it deserved it) and the only way to play it in 4K is to play it on the PC. Still highly recommended though :) And Erik, in case you were wondering, I for one totally think these games fit your channel naturally. Fast arcade action, wheels or not, why not. I'm even thinking that a game like Hotshot Racing would deserve a nod.
Thanks a lot for the feedback! I would love to expand the types of racing games I feature on the channel so that type of feedback is very important. A bit of a shame Xenon Racer can't be played in 4K since the visual presentation is one of the strongest aspects of the game. Glad you like it too though!
I'm not sure I would go that far but I agree in the sense that it doesn't give off AAA-vibes. Xenon Racer is a solid experience in my opinion but it has been fun to read all the comments, people's opinions are definitely very split about the game :)
Not a huge fan of Xenon Racer, looks cool but just doesn't feel great to play. Have you played Grip? Fantastic futuristic racer, looks and plays beautifully, main gimmick is the cars can drive on walls, and they added AG ships in a later update. Also quite old now but Extreme G3 for the PS2 was an awesome futuristic bike racer.
I agree in that there is nothing really remarkable about the gameplay in Xenon Racer. The visual presentation stands out though like you said yourself. I have tried Grip and like it a lot! I haven't featured the game in a dedicated video but I have included it in different top lists. Thanks for the tip!

Bought this as soon as you said it was on sale
Awesome! I hope you won't be disappointed.
ooooh! i never heard of this game! thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
No worries at all, I hope you liked what you saw!
This is what I imagine a dedicated cyberpunk 2077 racing game would look like
Night City could make for an excellent need for speed style game with its mix of megacity and desert home to various gangs in futuristic vehicles.

This is closest thing we ever got a decent Ridge Racer game on the pc . Give RR7 a go, it's not super futuristic but the vibes are similar to Xenon.

@@AGRacingCentral RR7 is only available through emulation while RR6 is compatible with newer Xbox consoles and Ridge Racer 2 PSP is on PSPlus

honestly this game looks more like a high end mobile game rather than something for pc and console
