Huge thanks to @Coatsink for providing the code for the game! Phantom Spark is available on all major gaming platforms. Make sure to stay tuned for the giveaway event this coming Sunday for your chance to win the Steam version of Phantom Spark. Feel free to leave your thoughts about the game in a comment and thank you for watching!
I guess you and I had the exact same initial experience then :) Glad you liked the game too, one of the biggest racing game surprises of this year I think.
I think atmosphere adds a lot. Its not aggresive with fast tracks and bright neon colours. Instead muted pastels, ambiant soundscape with calm and soothing enviroment its almost a zen feeling. Like meditation rather than racing.
This game looks buttery smooth! This could potentially run very well on a switch too, assuming that's still a "major platform". Great job on the review!
Perhaps it could! It would be interesting to see if the instant restart mechanic is really instant on that console. And yes, Phantom Spark runs really smooth on a PS5 at least :)
Really cool! The gameplay is definitely quite reminiscent of Trackmania, but I'm surprised how much the vibes and aesthetic remind me of Break Arts II. Definitely gonna try out the free demo!
I got a lot of comments comparing the game to Trackmania and after trying it out, I'm inclined to agree :) The look and setting of the games are totally different though.
Hi Erik, I like the simple pure gameplay of Phantom Spark, will have a look. I recently picked up a GameCube and F-Zero GX as I've always been a PlayStation/Wipeout guy for a long time. Myself and some friends are actually working on an indie space racing/combat game in our spare time, it's our first game. Not sure if it's strictly AG racing (I suppose so as it's in space!) and it's early - only one track so far and lots of polishing to be done - but we have a Steam page up. It's called Hyper Hadron Racing, and should be finished sometime next year.
I've recently been gifted an emulator software with a bunch of games from a viewer som I'm really looking forward to trying out F-Zero GX as well! I also checked out Hyper Hadron Racing and it looked cool! Both the setting and the perspective felt unique. Feel free to reach out if you ever want to collaborate with me about the game, like when it's time for some kind of marketing push for example. You can find my email adress on my "about"-page.
You know what?, it doesn't look bad at all, it feels like a nice racing game to just play and relax a little. The graphics aesthetics and the music reminds me when I played the Zone events on WipEout HD on PS3 with chill/ambiental music in the background with the custom soundtrack option (and yes, I did that, lol!). And checking the PS Store, it looks like it has a PS4 version too!, nice to see that console wasn't forgotten yet, better put in my wishlist for buy it later.
Glad you thought Phantom Spark looked interesting! It's a different look and feel when compared to Wipeout for example even though both games are in the same genre.
This strongly reminds me of Trackmania, and i didn't like Trackmania when i played it, but the appeal is obviously there, and I hope this game gets more exposure
I saw a couple of other commenters making comparisons with Trackmania, a game I hadn't tried when I made this video. I have now however, and I can definitely see the similarities in the concept as a whole for both games. When it comes to the visual style, not so much :)
I tried the demo, really enjoyed it. The handling model is EXTREMELY smooth, feels really good to nsil your lines the most cleanly, even only on the 3 first tracks. Made me wish that other AG racers controlled this cleanly. Also maybe want to try Trackmania but lmao I ain't paying a subscription to Ubislop.
I completely agree with you regarding the smoothness of Phantom Sparks gameplay. And I did finally play Trackmania Turbo after receiving a million comments comparing Phantom Spark to that game. I can see the similarities now, Trackmania was a lot of fun too :)
Hei Erik .. great vid and very interesting looking game .. I think I will give it a shot 🤔 reminds me a wee bit about trackmania .. Anyways hope you and your family is doing well and your wifes eye is getting better .. Have a good one 🫡
Thanks a lot, man! People mentioned Trackmania so many times and after I finally tried it, I'm willing to agree that the similarities are there. At least when it comes to the general concept with short tracks that are mostly time trials. From an aesthetic perspective, not so much :)
Phantom Spark definitely manages to be intense and relaxing at the same time. Thank you for checking out the video, apparently the game has a free demo on Steam.
Never heard about that game, it looks cool! Is it possible to play on PC/console? Apparently it wasn't originally released outside of arcade cabinets if I understood it correctly.
I had no idea about the demo, I would have of course mentioned it in the video if I knew. Yes, I'm really curious about how well it runs on a Steam Deck :)

It's genuinely excellent - I also wasn't sure, but that changed as soon as I tried it!

Thanks for the review Erik! Looks like a solid game!
It surely is, be it a bit different from many other AG racers. And thank you for checking out the video!

Fantastic game. Highly recommend
Couldn't agree more :) Thank you for checking out the video!

Soo, it's Trackmania but it's for anti_grav racers. I actually like the style of time trial only racing games, gives me a sense or relaxation.
Phantom Spark definitely manages to be intense and relaxing at the same time. Thank you for checking out the video, apparently the game has a free demo on Steam.
Check out Sega's 1997 game called Motor Raid, it looks like a fusion of Wipeout and Road Rash.
Never heard about that game, it looks cool! Is it possible to play on PC/console? Apparently it wasn't originally released outside of arcade cabinets if I understood it correctly.
It reminds me to trackmania
I guess it does when it comes to the general concept at least. Perhaps not so much when it comes down to the looks :)
The demo is free on Steam,
and you don't need a NASA standard computer to play.
I had no idea about the demo, I would have of course mentioned it in the video if I knew. Yes, I'm really curious about how well it runs on a Steam Deck :)
@@AGRacingCentral Same! I'll check it out!
So... Its hipster-trackmania? Do you see it getting the same community and leaderboards?
I haven't actually checked the Discord and so on. I recently tried Trackmania though and I can definitely see the similarities :)
