The Instant Pot isn’t the be all end all like they make it out to be but for the things I use it for it’s beyond amazing! I cook 2lbs of dried beans every week during my meal prep & haven’t purchased canned beans since owning my IP. I can make salt free & organic beans for pennies per serving. I also make a big batch of organic grass fed yogurt weekly again for much cheaper & healthier than store bought yogurt. It makes better white & brown rice than my rice cooker! It also makes great steel cut oats without having to babysit it so it doesn’t spill over & cause a mess. I would have paid double for it for those things alone.
Jameson Jones Do you have a recipe for instant pot pinto beans? I’ve just purchased a bag of them and would love to know a method to cook them, thanks Michelle 😊
michelle_aus it’s really easy! I do 5 cups of water or broth for every 1lb of pinto beans without presoaking the beans. I cook on high pressure for 30 minutes & let it come to a natural release which is usually like 20-25 minutes. This works for both pinto & roman beans to get firm fully cooked beans & not mushy ones. I usually cook mine with a couple of bay leaves, 3 or 4 peeled crushed garlic cloves & a large yellow onion cut in half. I fish all of that out at the end. I usually don’t salt or season them since I use them throughout the week for different recipes. You can add whatever you normally use for beans right at the start if you want. I portion them out in mason jars with a little bit of the broth & use them during the week for refried beans, bean burritos, rice & beans & on top of salads. I cook a 2nd batch of beans like chickpeas & use that for hummus & salads. Same recipe but chickpeas need 40 minutes of cook time with a natural release.
Hi Jameson...would you tell me how long you cook your steel oats for(that's all I have here) & ratio of say one cup oats to water? (slow release or fast)...THANKS ! are you putting in anything to avoid the spill over? :)

I have been using the 5-5-5 for eggs since I heard it and works great! The ground beef idea is great for me. Just to have that pre-cooked is a time saver. Then can season depending on what you are making (tacos, spaghetti) Such a simple thing but I LOVE it!
I just tried this way to cook eggs and I will shout out that it worked perfectly. I used this 5-5-5 method and my elevation is just a little over 1,000 feet. So easy to peal and the texture of the eggs are so soft and creamy with no overcooking of the yolk and the white is soft and tender. Anyone who states this recipe doesn’t work is not following your instructions. I have purchased your 6 Sisters Cookbook through Amazon and know i will enjoy many of the items in it. TYSM! I'm a brand new owner of an Instant Pot and have never used a pressure cooker. I'm scared! But, determined. You made it look so simple the way you showed the process every single time.
I just got an IP & today made my first hard boiled eggs. I live at a high altitude (5,500 ft) & had to add a bit of time. I did 6 minutes & they came out perfectly. I’m so excited.
Yes to the steamed veggies!! I always hated steamed veggies, and then I discovered roasting veggies, which makes them all caramelized and delicious. But you can't really roast green beans, and steaming or blanching the green beans using traditional methods, I always found they either wouldn't cook all the way through, or they'd be mushy and gross. Then I tried steaming the green beans in the instant pot for one minute, and they were PERFECT!
First of all. I love your weekly recipes. My favorite Monday thing! Re: the chicken. I do Just what you do but....sometimes...the Costco cooked chicken is so good. I get all the meat off. Save it in Tupperware whatever is left and....put the whole carcass in that steamer basket. Cover w water. And about 45-60 minutes. Voila. Pull out that basket and there’s the most beautiful tasty stock ready to divide up and freeze. Also I have done the same carcass a second time. It’s not as rich but still better that a box or can.
I don't have an instant pot, but I do have a power pressure cooker xl and I use your recipes, especially the hamburger, its great for freezing cooked and later making my dish
Linda Murray i have two of the power pressure cooker XL’s and I absolutely love them this you youtuber got me to be confident with my pressure cookers and not scared of them anymore
I have been doing eggs and rice for a while. I did chicken with chicken broth and garlic powder for meal prep. Turned out great. I can’t wait to try the steamed veggies. I usually steam in the microwave and yes they are mushy. I am hoping in the IP they will be like a Panda Express. I just ordered your cookbook as I have all of y’alls others. Can’t wait for the IP COOKBOOK. I used to live in Provo but now live in Mississippi or I would for sure come to your party. Love all y’all ❤️
Thanks for your videos. I just thought I'd add a comment about why natural release is preferred for all meats. Natural release is not just used for additional cooking time for meats. It's purpose is to allow the meat tissues a chance to rest and reabsorb moisture. It does two things. The meat will be more tender and it will not be dried out.
I do 14 eggs at a time. I have the double layer egg trivets. I do 3 minutes cooking, 3 minutes slow releasing, and the ice bath for 5 minutes. I used to do the 5-5-5 method, but it turns the yolk green which was very unappetizing to me and my family. They still peel easily. I just find that they taste better if not overcooked. We made the beef stroganoff recipe that she showed on one of the videos. It was delicious.
I just won my first instapot in a raffle for Christmas at my job this is so great I have to come online to figure out what to do with it these videos are awesome and I will be watching your new ones and your old ones for advice/ Merry Christmas! God blesses everyone!
I use my IP almost every week. Cooked pork roast for pulled pork. Love to make soups to freeze. Quick frozen ground beef for pasta sauce. Just try it and you will find more ways to time.
Frozen chicken tenderloins (like the ones in the bag at Aldi's) will totally cook at 12 minutes. I do it every other day. Never had undercooked chicken. At 12 minutes, you can also throw in navy beans (presoaked) and white rice. The white rice will be mush beyond 12 minutes.
Thank you so much Kristen. I ready on your videos so much. Simple and great recipes. I’m a bachelor and love simple. Keep it up. Good luck on your new home and making the transition to a new area.
I'm really starting to love my Instant-Pot, which I still call Insta-pot 😂. The concept of cooking with a pressure cooker was so foreign to me and there definetly is a learning curve to using it. Thank you so much for making this channel, I'm cooking my way from a F grade to at least a B- minus and eventually a A+ with the help of good instructors like yourself ! Thanks Kristen 😁✌
Thanks to watching you I lost my fear of using the Instant Pot and now I love it! I also got your cook book and it is amazing! Thank you for all of your videos. I send send them to friends all of the time!!! Woohooooo!
MA Jo 1 cup long grain rice, 1 cup water, 2 cups whole milk 1/8 tsp salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon I use a little more and 1/2 cup sugar close lid set to sealing push the porridge button and walk away let it natural release for 10 minutes once lid is off stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 can of sweetened condensed milk or depending on how sweet you like it you can use half of the sweetened condensed milk and BAM you got Amazing homemade Rice pudding it’s absolutely delicious it’s a recipe my family has passed down for years except I have tweaked it for the Instant Pot no more standing over a stove a stirring constantly!! Please let me know if you tried it! 😊
@@Bradyviolation71 Your rice pudding sounds great, I just had to ask about the amount of liquid here. I've only had this a couple of times and always loved it. That sounds like an awful lot of liquid for just one cup of rice. I know m probably being overly cautious, just had to ask. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Tere Brown it’s not a lot of Liquid I promise it comes out perfect every time I make this weekly for my son he loves it for snack after school. Trust me it works perfect
Thank you for these videos. I just binge watched 2 hours worth. Didn't know what to do with the dang thing. Bought it in 2016, used it 1 time and shoved it to the back of the closet. Now I have some great ideas of how to cook with it and will add my own touches to "make it mine"
Been watching your videos as i just purchased an InstaPot Duo Crisp + Airfryer. I decided my first meal would be a beef stew. Smells delicious. After binge watching your recipes, i find they are easy to follow and looking forward to experimenting with my own twists. Thank you
You said the amount of cook time stays the same regardless of how much veggies or rice you are making. But would you change the amount of water? I just got my first instant pot, and trying to learn how to use it. Thanks for the great videos!
Hi Kristen Thank you and your sisters for all your fantastic recipes done in the instant pot I love following you recipes and my neighbours enjoy them too. Much love Roz xx
I used 3 lbs. Ground beef from frozen but after the 25 min. raw in the middle so back in for another 15-18 min. Then done. Compared did the rest. I will never cook ground beef or turkey unless in an Instapot ever again. Thank you! P.S. now I know why you got a second steel pot. I wanted to do a different recipe right away but had to clean my only one first. With two pots, and the silicone cover, I could have switched it out in a second.
I am seeing this after I looked for the steamed vegetable method. I used the same as you did, but fresh, and set for 0 minutes. They were perfectly cooked and delicious and kept their. I have oatmeal in now with the time delay, so hopefully I will have really good old fashioned “ porridge “ at 6:30 am. I see that you are using 2 different I.Ps, so one must be the original. And never have I had better eggs than with the IP. Thank you.
I use my IP daily. Sometimes multiple times. My question is - I rarely see you season while cooking. Is there a reason you don’t season your meats with anything? Also, I rarely see you add veggies or garlic, onions, etc. Can you explain?
Ha Ha. Depends on which recipe you watch! I do about 1/2 and 1/2. There are so people who FREAK out when I add a lot of seasoning - so I kind of leave it open to those who love the seasonings. :) ha ha. I hope this helps!
Thank you for that reply! I was wondering myself why no seasonings?? I always season as I cook so I am glad that it would be ok as well to season as I cook if I were to purchase an IP!
Kim Everhart The beauty of seasoning in the IP is that it infuses flavors rather than releasing them in steam. Using vegetables in traditional cooking like a mirepoix, works even better in the IP. Happy cooking!
Just rec'd an IP for Christmas; can't wait to try some of these ideas. Oh, yeah, I'll (probably) be seasoning the meat. Really like the ideas for the eggs and rice! Y'all Be Safe!
I just bought hatrigo. Multi purpose deep bowl stackable steamer insert pot. I used it for dump cake. Love it. Bought it for deep bowl. Used steamer lid.
I just wondering if all these recipes your showing can also be done in a crock pot slow cooker? Also wanted to add a really enjoy your video thank you for being descriptive about what you're doing I just wanted you to know that all for one really appreciate that I am sight impaired I cannot see videos very well and depend on people being descriptive in their videos so I know what is going on. Sorry about any typos I used talk to text and it doesn't always say what I want LOL
Thank you so much! You are the 4th person who is sight impaired to reach out. I will try my hardest to make it easier for you guys! - the only one I would do in the slow cooker is chicken. Low- 6 to 8 hours. 😁
Thanks for the reply. I thought it might have something to do with your family’s preferences or maybe something I was doing wrong with my IP! Keep up the good work and I’ll keep tuning in!
I got the 6 quart, I'm a 109 lb wife with just my husband and the pot barely makes us feel full lol we workout a lot, the hunger is absolutely a beast.
Maybe I’ve missed something as your iP is a different model than mine but when you set it manually, do you use low, medium or high pressure cook? Thanks.
Great tips for Beginners like me. Thank you! Can you flavor frozen chicken before it cooks in the Instant Pot, or is it better to flavor it after it is cooked? For example, fajita chicken?
I love ur recipes and u are so helpful thank you .the insta pot scared me when i first got it and with watching your videos I use it like a pro ty angain from Canada
I've been making the oatmeal, and it's turning out wonderfully, probably the best oatmeal that I've had. I use different toppings, but the prep of the actual oatmeal is awesome. My issue is that the oatmeal is sticking to the bottom of the pot. Can I just use a cooking spray for that, or am I doing something wrong?
Thoughts on oatmeal I do oatmeal about every other day, I found that it sticks to the bottom of the instapot (IP) pan, or worse burns, so I cook it with pot-in-pot method. Here's how; * 1 part oats to 2 parts water in insert pot * 1 cup water in IP pot * place pot with oats in IP pot on top of trivet or other riser (I use a silicone one) * seal and set timer to 3 min * go about your morning routine for as long as you like, but at least till it completely releases, i.e. the pop-up plunger falls. (DO NOT quick release or it'll boil over out of the insert pot making a mess - voice of experience) Note, the oatmeal will still be hot enough even after sitting an hour or more. * remove insert pot & add salt, sweetener or other ingredients to taste & enjoy. Note, these can be added before cooking as well. * cleanup is a breeze, just empty water from IP pot and wash insert pot.
💕 Hi Kristen ! Could I please ask a question ? I've noticed in some recipes some people will put chicken right on the bottom of the pot, whether it's frozen or not, and even with liquid. I thought that was a no-no, so I'm a little confused. Could you please explain why some say you should never put the meat in directly on the bottom ? Thank you ! And I loved this video !! And look forward to trying your simple dishes on here ! 💗👍🏼👋🏼
because it will burn the pot, you need water to pressure cook, unless you are sauteing the meat, which will call for some sort of fat (butter or oil). she was cooking frozen chicken so maybe the liquid was created because it was frozen, idk
People who are complaining about seasoning have never eaten pressure cooked meat. lmao It's not the same as other cooked methods as the natural taste of the meat is much richer in flavor. But this is just some basics for beginners with the Instant Pot. I've used pressure cookers, just not this type. Looks like I'm going to be using my pot a LOT. Just watching this video I know that several of my recipes are now going to be so much easier & faster. One is homemade dog food. Cooking the ingredients is time consuming on the stove top, especially the meat & rice part. My new Instant pot is going to make it sooooo much easier. yay! Also thinking meatloaf in the instant pot.......is that do-able? Please tell me it is. Thanks for the video!
Can’t wait for your IP Cookbook. Your recipes are very user friendly. Off topic.... your lipstick color is very pretty. What is the brand & color? Thanks.
Mom used to brown lots of ground beef all at once then put it into ziplock bags, about a pound each, and freeze. Then, when you want to make a dish with ground beef, just take it out of the freezer and make the dish--easy.
Yes and I cook several pieces of chicken (for us I cook boneless skinless thighs). I add 1 cup of broth to 1lb. Chicken pieces (when cool break chicken in medium pieces) to freeze. Freeze in bags or air tight containers. This is so handy for chicken dishes or casseroles.
Hi! I just received my first Instant Pot and I am excited to start using it! Where would I find the little trivet you used to make the eggs? Is there a link somewhere? I tried to find it on Amazon and also the Instant Pot website but can't find it.

I applaud you for using your fingers as a replacement for a spatula. People now days are so squeamish about using bare hands without gloves, it just makes me sick. I was born in the day of barehanded cooking (clean hands of course), Farm living makes you appreciate the "non sterile" life, and of course the good food that went along with it!! Love your recipes!!
Turkey roasts are so yummy in the pot, too. I save the turkey flavored water (broth) to use in a soup later on in the week. So much quicker that baking an entire turkey, and it’s all white meat!🍽

How do you know how long to set the time?
How can I get recipes for the Insignia Pressure Cooker
Hard boiled eggs....Steam mode for 6min, fast release....cool bath! Try it is amazing!!! 👍👏😍🥰
So excited to try it!
That's what I do too. Work every time!
That hamburger meat idea is THE BEST! Can’t wait to try it!! Thank you! Love your videos!
Watching your instant pot videos is how I got started using my instant pot👍 Thank you for all the great videos😊
Ha ha ha! Favorite comment of the night. I started at an F too! 😂
@@SixSistersStuff , thanks that makes me feel better 😂😂!
Thanks to watching you I lost my fear of using the Instant Pot and now I love it! I also got your cook book and it is amazing! Thank you for all of your videos. I send send them to friends all of the time!!! Woohooooo!
You are so welcome! I am so glad that you overcame that fear, way to go!
Thanks for sharing! This will make cooking for the week so much faster.
You're my new favorite channel! I can't wait to binge watch you! :)) Thanks!
I love your recipes and how great you can cook and your family must be so happy and well fed.
I would love to see another part to this video on how you use all these in dinners with seasoning and everything
I'm new to the IP, last night I made pot roast using your recipe last night it was easy and it was delicious better than the old rocker top.
What a great tutorial for cooking staples in the Instant Pot. I"m not much of a cook so things like this are very helpful. Thanks for the video!
Very good,thank you..
I like the way you point to say a function,
as go to...
You take the mystery out of it.
I just made homemade rice pudding on my instant Pot today it was awesome I used the porridge button and 20 minutes later I had perfect rice pudding! 😊
Right. Where is that rice pudding recipe.
Thanks! This is just what I’m looking for! I’ll try it this weekend.
As someone who is going to buy an instant pot I’m so grateful for this video thank you so much :)
Exactly, Melissa. I noticed the same thing. She will tell you one thing and in another video, she'll tell you something different.
Great info!! Absolutely love the 5,5,5 hard boiled eggs method. Just did that again. Just comes out perfect everytime.
Hi Kristen
Thank you and your sisters for all your fantastic recipes done in the instant pot I love following you recipes and my neighbours enjoy them too.
Much love Roz xx
You are so welcome!
I LOVE making hard cooked eggs in my Pioneer Woman Instant Pot....so easy, and the easiest peeling ever.
Thank you for sharing your ideas with me...I love using my instant pot
Just made the pumpkin pie oatmeal, but used steel cut oats instead. My 1 year old is DOWNING it as we speak.
Ha Ha Ha! Awesome! I love it too!
@@SixSistersStuff I'm making this later this morning ! Yum ! :)
Oh shoot, you just reminded me I love steel cut oats the best but takes so long on the stove top. I need to try it in the IP.
I'm a beginner and this a great starting instruction. Vegetable, oatmeal and rice. Thank you kindly 🌷🌷
I love my Instapot and use it all the time. I like doing my meal prep with it
Me too! Thanks so much for coming by!
The hamburger meat is going to be a lifesaver for me! I am always cooking frozen hamburger meat and I hate it! Thank you!!
Just used my Instant Pot today (also just arrived today). LOVE IT! Thanks for your videos, they were really helpful for a first time user :)
Your videos are so good! So helpful!!! And your hair (and your sisters) is always so beautiful. Thanks for posting these!
Thank you.
I love my instant pot. Love your videos.
@@SixSistersStuff---This helps a lot, girl. I was expecting you to say you threw everything out.
I had no idea you could do a chunk of ground beef like that! I can't wait to try this :-)
Does it still have the flavor of browned ground beef
Thank you for this video...I have had my instant pot for some time but have been nervous due to the pressure...your explanations have helped a lot!
Great video! Good basic info on common things and the perfect process and times! Txs!
Maybe I’ve missed something as your iP is a different model than mine but when you set it manually, do you use low, medium or high pressure cook? Thanks.
Thank you, very hepful basic recipe. I have instant pot but never used, now I feel inspired to start. Tomorrow AM-will start from oatmeal
I LOVE THIS! It’s a perfect sampling/variety to get the juices flowing! Keep up the great work! Love your channel!
Nicely done. Thanks for your time.
Just got mine today. Can’t wait to use it.
Great tips for Beginners like me. Thank you! Can you flavor frozen chicken before it cooks in the Instant Pot, or is it better to flavor it after it is cooked? For example, fajita chicken?
Easy to follow your a good speaker .just got my insta-pot still learning receipts.the close up video and a personal touch to. Your presentation.
Can I just use a cooking spray for that, or am I doing something wrong?
a bit of oil/butter might help
This is great! I go thru spells of using my Instant Pot and this is basic enough for an unseasoned user! Thank you!, Anna
I love all of these recipes and will be making them for sure. Thank you so much
Thoughts on oatmeal
I do oatmeal about every other day, I found that it sticks to the bottom of the instapot (IP) pan, or worse burns, so I cook it with pot-in-pot method. Here's how;
* 1 part oats to 2 parts water in insert pot
* 1 cup water in IP pot
* place pot with oats in IP pot on top of trivet or other riser (I use a silicone one)
* seal and set timer to 3 min
* go about your morning routine for as long as you like, but at least till it completely releases, i.e. the pop-up plunger falls.
Thanks for sharing that!
I would have never thought to add pumpkin to oatmeal, but I love both oatmeal and pumpkin so I'll probably try that one. Great for winter!
*flavor had left the chat*
Was thinking that too! Definitely perplexed about what I am to do with plain chicken and ground beef.
Can’t wait for your IP Cookbook. Your recipes are very user friendly. Off topic.... your lipstick color is very pretty. What is the brand & color? Thanks.
Yay! New ideas!💃🏼 cooking the oatmeal ahead of time sounds like a plan, going to try it! I don’t like soggy vegys either!😆🥦🥕🌽 Tfs 💕
Love six sisters recipes .I don't use my oven and hardly use my stove.i watch all their videos
I love all your recipes I don't own an instant pot but my quick pot does the same all yummy stuff
Just found you. Good job explains the Instant Pot. Really basic and smart.
Awesome! Thank you!
I tried to find it on Amazon and also the Instant Pot website but can't find it.
www.google.com/search?q=instant+pot+trivet&rlz=1C1CHBH_enUS709US709&oq=instant+pot+trivet&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l7.13545j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Gives various sources for IP trivets.
I love your videos, thank you. My instantpot doesn't have a yogurt button. Which button do I use and how do I make it in the Instant pot. Thanks.
Loved your video!! you have such a sweet personality, thank you!!very helpful!! ♥
Turkey roasts are so yummy in the pot, too. I save the turkey flavored water (broth) to use in a soup later on in the week. So much quicker that baking an entire turkey, and it’s all white meat!🍽
Can you season your vegetables and meat before putting them in the InstaPot or should you wait until it’s done cooking?
what most do is de-pressure toward end...add seasoning then pressurize it again for about 4 minute.
