The Small Can Change the World

- Kind of a throwback to the early 1970s…
I have been wanting to do a song about Frodo in the Lord of the Rings and how the smallest sometimes have the largest impact. Here it is. My problem is that the music was written before I knew what the song would be about and I found out that the rhythm I put in for the verses was odd. It wasn’t easy squeezing the words in…
This started by me playing with a sound on the Pro-800 that, in the low end, reminded me a little of the Arp 2600 sound Edgar Winters used in Frankenstein. I didn’t want to be a total copy, but that was the starting point. For the solo I had to recreate the sound with the Sequential Prophet Rev 2 so that I could use a foot pedal. It wasn’t exact - the Pro-800 is a little meaner sounding - but it worked.
I used the usual suspects for instruments - you can ask if you are curious. Everything played live, by hand. Didn’t do any correction on the voice (it is obvious!). I put in the echo manually as I was singing - I pushed the sliders on the mixer up as I sang that last note. Lol. Yep, low tech.
Hope you enjoy! - เพลง
Love the funky beat... and yes, small DOES change the world!!
Thanks, Annette! Sometimes the smallest can :)
Quirky and charming sound mix with potent lyrics. The beats between melody and singing are asynchronous but by now I feel that it adds to the charm of your compositions. How you create something from nothing is pretty danged amazing.
The beat in the singing on this one is whacked... I didn't think lyrics until all of the instruments were recorded. I then discovered that the funny four 6-beat phrases in the verses (as opposed to 8-beat phrases) did not work at all! Squeezing them in was almost impossible and made the verses odd and choppy. Oh well. Quirky is right... Thanks!
The truth resonates.. Great lyric!
Thanks, David!
Very nice
Thanks!
I like your live use of the echo! Lovely message buddy
Thanks! I had used the echo for the solo and did vocals for the chorus next, so on a whim did a little testing with it.
Fabulous, Trent! Love the intro, your voice keeps getting better... stronger. Way to go!
Thanks, Resa! No place to go but up with my vocals ;) This, particularly the intro, is a little more straight up rock than I usual do, so I thought you might enjoy it.
LOVE IT!@@trentpmcd
Thanks!
So I take that you finished Tolkien? Samwise Gamgee is my hero! BTW Good job!
Samwise was a great character :) Thanks!
