  • A fresh new song...
I wrote the music for this almost a month ago and recorded the drums three weeks ago (a day before I started drum lessons…) but then got caught up doing other things, like astrophotography. Anyway, after a quick job of recoding the instruments and the wordless background vocals yesterday evening, I improvised some words and melody into the mic. I started with the minor section which is why the whole thing turned out a bit darker than planned. I did have the title “Drifting” as a jumping off point.
OK, for the music nerds, I played (manually) on a Roland drum kit, a Bach trumpet, my voice. The bass was mostly Poly D with some Rev 2 and then with the Pro-800 thrown in on the choruses (second chorus has a second Poly D line). Chords where Rev 2 with Pro-800 supporting. One sound buried in the chorus was 100 Rev 2 and the other 100% Pro-800.
And, yes, the photo of M 101, the Pinwheel Galaxy, is one I took last week. (OK, it was a combination of dozens of photos I took last week).
    I hope you enjoyed!

Fantastic composition!! You have my heart.
The coronet was my third instrument to learn. I started with piano, and mandolin then coronet. Brass instruments were a formative learning period. I moved from coronet to euphonium and finally the bass (Sousaphone).
I love this piece. Your improvisation in the mid-section is colorful and full of life.
Please don't wait so long for the next release, but I know it takes a while to harness the muse and finish the project.
    Much respect!

Thanks, David! Yeah, last year I put out over 30 videos including 22 brand new songs. So far this year I have two new songs... I need to catch up! lol.
Coronet (later trumpet) was actually my third instrument as well. I had guitar lessons when I was far too young, a year of cello (didn't stick at all) and then trumpet. I played through my first two years of college, picked up again about 15 years ago, but only for about a year, then picked it up again at the end of last year. Even with that, and not practicing nearly enough, I still feel more comfortable on it than on the keyboard.

Terrific song,Trent. The chorus is catchy. 👍Honestly, I suppose it's all the background, but your trumpet rules.

Oh, and BTW... I have a lot of experience in astrophotography. The Messier 101 shot is very good. I spent years doing deep sky as well as planetary and lunar photography. That hobby or skill set is a tremendous and rewarding effort. God has made for us the ultimate spectacle in the night sky. Please continue your endeavor and use you skills to enhance the music.

Cool. You are in CO, right? I am sure there are some great dark sky locations close to you! In the spring I took a photo of the Orion Nebula just for the heck of it. I liked it so much that I had to do more. My main interest in deep sky objects, but will be pointing at the moon and planets a bit more now that I understand stacking (Last year I posted a video where I slowly zoomed into a photo of the moon - amazing detail - I wonder what it would have been stacked with 50 more shots?)

@@trentpmcd I live in Texas just at the Oklahoma border. To my west are dark skies which are good for both observing and photography. My main interest includes double star splitting and Lunar observing. Don't need dark skies for the latter.

@@davidryle I know it's a big border, but I lived north of Dallas for a few months and in OK City for a few months (I worked for the FAA, so visited OKC several times after that long summer for ATC screen) so a little familiar with that section of the country. Anyway, not sure why I thought you were CO - I think because you once commented on a photo from Boulder.
