What a joy to listen to this man. When he plays the piano it is like Freddie is playing Bohemian Rhapsody all over again. The one and only fifth member of Queen, mr. Spike Edney.
@@hermannus3894absolutely he hasn't got the attack or dynamics that Freddie had, it's hard for me to describe it exactly as a guitarist but it's like Marty Friedman play lets dance for example, he has all the talent to play it but will never pick like Nile Rodgers so it will not sound just the same
Legend. And very underrated. And almost invisible at Live Aid. I've had so many people arguing with me that there was no keyboard player at Wembley! He was behind Deaksies stack.
Spike is an absolute master of his craft. He deserves more credit than he already gets. I smiled all the way through this video thank you spike for your decades of dedication and love for Queen 👑
Well done, Spike. Great video. Me and Spike were at grammar school together in Portsmouth UK and we were also in our first band together aged 12. He’s a smashing bloke totally genuine and so talented.Even at age 12! Hope to see you soon mate!
It was Spike's video about the Korg Kronos which lead me to buy the Kronos 3 years ago. I am in a Queen Tribute Band called Celebrating Queen and the Korg Kronos which I love, is now permanently on my Tech Rider. I really enjoyed this video, because technically I am the Spike Edney for our band. So if ever Spike is unavailable for a Queen gig my phone is on :-) This breakdown was excellent - thanks for sharing.
fascinating. Hearing how Spike decides when to bring Fred in for "It's a kind of magic" is spine tingling. It's a visual photo, taken long ago and see/hear it again and again in it's current state but at the same time, Freddie lives on, waiting to be heard at the touch of a key and when he's released, the hairs on your neck stand right up! Thanks Spike, great video, you're a hell of a musician!
@@basilfawlty89 wembley is far from the only gig he's played, he straight up says he's played with the band in 1984 fuck, he played with them at live aid
Spike Edney has given so much wonderful musicianship in his piano playing backstage during Queen gigs, especially at times when it would have been impossible for Freddie to be on piano. I'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves for his contribution to my favourite band.
this Korg system is absolutely amazing…and when Spike is playing some of these classic examples from some of Queens songs..it’s absolutely wonderful..really wonderful!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a joy to see Spike front and center! He is the epitome of a masterful support player. Even though we all knew he was there, he was brilliant at making himself invisible.
Spike was in a band back in the early 70’s called Smiling Hard. I saw them play so many times at Penelopes in Paignton and they were superb. Amazing to think what he’s gone on to do!
I was contimplating an M8X but after watching Spike using his NAUTILUS I'm rethinking what to get. Either will kill my bank account. Hard thing for me is to try and avoid being influinced by one of the keyboardist I respect the most. He was one of the reasons I desided to become a keyboardist back in the 80s. It's nice to see such a great man in a post like this.
Great insight....Would have loved to see how the middle section of Bohemian Rhapsody is done with all of the operatic vocals. Perhaps the next video...
Loved your intro for I Want To Break Free on the Magic Tour. The keyboards and guitar work just took it to a whole different level from the studio version 😃
Thank you for sharing. I’ve been a fan of Queen for ages and this is certainly due to your work Spike Edney! Also, thank you Korg for making such great instruments.
There was a great exhibition of Spike and his work a few years ago in Portsmouth Guildhall (a few miles away from where I live), a talent who has worked with many people.
Another brilliant video. I spent years working on replicating Spike's sounds on the Triton, Triton Extreme and Kronos. I've got many of the sounds pretty close, the one that still evades is the power of the vocoder. If Spike ever sold a download pack of Kronos or Nautilus presets i'd buy it!
Even if they did, I am sure it would evade a lot how Spike Edney does all his trickery. He is part technician, part musician. And as such the perfect fifth member for Queen, where that same combination is found in all the other original members, too.
Very much looking forward to Spikes All Stars (SAS Band) in December -- used to visit Hammersmith in the 90's. Much anticipation about who'll be joining him on the night and experiencing what will be the band's 30th anniversary show.
Spike I've had my Nautilus 88 for 14 months, I've learned to turn it on now but you've made me feel very inadequate, but you know what your doing, I don't!
Korg always worked best for me because the sounds were the most authentic . The sound cards in the M1 were a nightmare though changing . Real keys vs tracks, a dying art but it is a real art, in contrast to too many charlatans masquerading as bands , singers, musicians these days. Very interesting video, many thanks , ( an ex queen tribute show keyboard player)
Absolutely outstanding very interesting and informative and you get to watch and listen to a master as well, the keyboard is excellent but you still need the skill to use it.
Bloody legend. The fifth member of Queen.
🤔
Love him as part of the Cross too.
What a joy to listen to this man. When he plays the piano it is like Freddie is playing Bohemian Rhapsody all over again. The one and only fifth member of Queen, mr. Spike Edney.
And he never tries to play like Freddie and does it in his own way.
If you think a piano sounds the same like a KORG, I suggest you visit a audiologist.

This is what the internet is for. It's amazing to have world-class musicians show you how they do their magic on and off stage. Thank you

One of the most reliable ever. He's a true rockstar and a true gentleman.

1984 was the first time I ever saw Queen in concert - Spike Edney also played additional guitar on "Hammer to fall".
In a pink tee shirt???

This dude has been always there.
Spike - You deserve so much more credit. Brilliant musician.
I can listen to him talk about this all day! He’s the reason why live performances have so much depth to them.
Really nice to see Queen's keys, I love your work Spike. Thanks😊👍
He's played with more than just Queen. I saw him live with Peter Green's Splinter Group - total legendary lineup.

Absolutely incredible.. He just casually brings those iconic songs to life .
What an excellent presentation and what a fabulous job he has had all these years.

I saw Spike with Queen on the kind of magic tour, he was amazing, he contributes massively to the queen sound. Amazing talent!!
I only clicked on the thumbnail because I thought it was Bill Bailey, turned out even better!

Best “ behind the scenes” video ever
Thankyou Spike, watched the whole way through, brilliant, cheers from New Zealand.
Not is he a great musician, but a beautifully soft spoken thorough gentleman, lots and heaps of love from Pakistan ❤
Absolutely amazing that you share your knowledge. Very useful info about production side. Thank you.
This man knows the whole of all queen songs. He literally puts every song together..
Just awesome, I play drums but could sit and watch keyboard players like Spike all day long 🙂

Great and humble guy who’s had an awesome career, very envious 👍🙌🙌🙌🙌
Absolutely beautiful! A true artist from the inside out. What a wonderful example of living art embraced with humility.

Verry good for you. Im glad to see all queen in one
Nice TOUR - Thank you Spike ✌
Just want to say Spike.....you were hugely important to the band in my mind
That backward piano at 7:45 reminded me of the song "I" from Black Sabbath 1992 Dehumanizer album.
Love these videos of keyboardists stage gear sundown. I would be interested to know what Spike uses as a monitor for his keyboards.
Excelente Maestro 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 simplemente espectacular, una especie de magia ❤

Hey Spike thanks for sharing respect great Keys playing BTW I have a Korg X3 always wanted a M1 and still do ...
Love this. Great to see how you do this live.
without you the sound of queen's backing vocals will remain empty and hollow thank you for 40 years
