    Hi Brian, very I impressed by you off the cuff commentary, you are a natural at this. It’s Immaterial were from Liverpool and the song sings/ talks about heading down the M62 to Manchester. I’ve always loved the song. The M62 is my favourite motorway (yes I’m sad enough to have a favourite motorway). When I was up younger listening to the song on the radio (it got a lot of airplay in the UK ) I never imagined later in life I would spend 15 years driving 5 days a week from Manchester to Liverpool and back 😢. Not sure how I managed to stick that for 15yrs. Andy

      I may appear to be a natural, but I will be stumped some day, and that is a guarantee! I can't say that I have a favourite motorway. I love to drive, but I imagine having to drive daily would degrade my love of being behind the wheel. It's amazing that you did that drive for 15 years.

    Hello Brian. One of the first albums I randomly pulled to play in my new record room was that XTC album. That was sent to me after the flood, love that album! April Wine, I know they had a hit in the US but I can’t place it. I saw a few of their albums quite a bit but the music was not what I listened to. They are a Canadian institution!

    To pull and speak from such a vast collection shows some fantastic knowledge Brian. Love Nonsuch and that Peter Gabriel double sounds great. I’ve always loved PG’s version of Book of Love. I haven’t heard those covers of PG album tracks. Lou Reed doing Solsbury Hill, I’m intrigued. Must hear it after your great appraisal. Mike

      The good news is that if I pull 5 records that I can't say anything about, I would probably just kill it and redo the video. That might be cheating, although that hasn't happened yet 🙂 Just avoid that Randy Newman track!

    I misread the title of the video and thought you were showing 15 random records. So, when you stopped at 5, I got mad for second. I love that XTC album, but I've only ever had it on CD. One of the first tapes I ever bought as a kid in the early 80s was from April Wine. "Just Between You and Me" was a huge enough hit that 10 year old me had to have it. That Peter Gabriel thing was...interesting. You're right about the Lou Reed track. It was cool.

      Maybe I should do 15 records some day! April Wine were very popular her in Canada, but I am still surprised that they are known outside of Canada. Some Canadian bands make it big elsewhere, and some toil in obscurity 😔

    I urge you to sit down and listen to that It's Immaterial album again late at night. One of my favorites. My UK original I've been playing for nearly 40 years is getting a bit worn so was happy to find a US copy in great condition for just a buck recently.

    Great video Brian. I enjoy these random pulls and you have a very nice collection to pull from. I'm not familiar with that XTC or that particular Peter Gabriel LP both sound very interesting to and I will have to explore them. As for April Wine I like them and have all there early stuff up to mid 80's. They were played a lot on my radio station that I grew up with and even made it on a king biscuit flower hour broadcast live in 82. You may already know this but one of there big hits here in the states was sign of a gypsy queen which is a cover by another Canadian artist Lorence Hud. I like how you show Canadian artists and have exposed me to a lot I was not aware of. I knew of Nash from the FM band but never explored his solo stuff I'll have to remedy that :) Well have a great weekend and look forward to the next video. Bye for now. John

    • @EmbryonicRobot
      @EmbryonicRobot  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hadn't heard Lorence Hud's original Sign of a Gypsy Queen until many many years after I heard April Wine do that track. They picked a very good track to cover, but it must have been irritating for Hud, even if it made him some cash. It reminds me of 'I Go Blind' by Hootie and the Blowfish, which is, as you might know, a cover of a 54-40 song. I have head that 54-40 made a ton of money from the Hootie cover version, so that must have been rewarding $$$.

      @@EmbryonicRobot That is so true Brian. I'm glad that 54-50 made money as I prefer there version. It is strange how some artists write a great song only not to be discovered until someone else does it. Thanks for the reply :)

    We believe HP...we believe!! I reckon those XTC reissues sound pretty good. "Life's Hard And Then You Die" Jeebuz 😲I have never heard April Wine and had never heard of them at all before the VC thing. Gabriel's version of My Body Is A Cage is brilliant. I've heard that lots of OG reggae and ska records the hole isn't even centred so you can imagine how great that would sound. I used to work with a bloke that was older than me and used to collect that stuff & re-drilled the holes into the correct spot. He said early on he trashed a few records but later got it down to a fine art.

      I have learned that April Wine is really popular in Chicago and Boston. I had no idea! My Body is a Cage is an awesome track, both Gabriel's version and the original. I picked up the Nash the Slash album because of Michael Waite (the producer) because I wanted to interview him for my TH-cam channel. Coved kind of kiboshed that. Michael's "Cosmic Wave" album is pretty good. April Wine was my very first concert - the "Stand Back" tour. Myles Goodwyn was also my last concert. I was invited by Bob Segarini to a club appearance in Toronto for Myles' second blues album performance. Actually got to meet him. I love Lou Reed, but I'm going to have to listen to his Solsbury Hill a few more times to figure out if I like it.

      Coincidentally enough, I always thought of It's Immaterial as being the urbane cousins of the more pastoral/suburban XTC.
