EXCELLENT EXCELLENT video. Got my driver's side interior done yesterday. What a pain in the m m m. You're video made it much easier for me to understand. I ended up using two of the old clips along with the all the new clips. That metal isn't as good as the old metal and bends very easily. The weather stripping should be lined up away from the weep holes in the door, to minimize the chances of water coming in thru the door seal gap.

    Jason from Maryland here.
One half of "American Cherokees USA". New channel, mostly XJs but MJs will be featured soon. I wanted to reach out and say I work as a parts director at a restoration shop in the DC area. I have connections across the country and can help you find parts. Between my brothers and I we have close to 20 XJs, mine going back to Original AMCs and yes I have an 84. Would love to help brother 👍

I finally got around to starting to tackle this job today. If it wasn't 35deg F out I probably would have gotten the passenger side done but am pleased with how it's going thanks to your video.
The weather strip on the vent window frame for the main window basically crumbled when I took mine out, it was super crusty.

So what did you do for the outer most bottom trim piece on the outside? You took the new one off and didn’t say what you did. Did you use the old one? I need to replace that I think on my MJ.

Are you talking about the bottom wiper that rides on the glass as you roll up/down the window? Like your arm would sit on this seal if you put your arm out the window.

@@InternetDude I replaced that part with a new one, the only thing I had to reuse was the clips that hold the lower strip to the door. The new rubber piece fit fine, I just had to reuse the old clips. That lower strip is the same reason I was replacing my weather-stripping too.

How did your doors close after the weatherstripping install? Just did mine in my '92 and the driver's side especially has to be slammed to shut completely.

    • @Rnddiesel

Mine has the same issue, I think it might have something to do with the latch mechanism? I find if you push up the door a tad bit while closing it closes much easier, so yes same issue here.

@@Rnddiesel oh no, I'm talking both hands slam. I'm afraid I'll shatter the glass. The passenger side was tight after but I left it closed for a few days in the South Louisiana sun and now it closes with just a bit more force than pre-weatherstrip install.

..... I've got an '88 MJ 4x4 in central Calif... Without 'full disclosure', what state are you in? ... And if your 'near' are you up to doing this same job on mine?... Lastly, can you 'remove posted comments' ? Because, if your close enough, I'd send my actual email & phone info, but would want it removed from 'public view' ... Regards, Larry

larry g. it's awesome that you've got an MJ as well! I call Texas home, so it's a bit far. I encourage you to tackle the weather-stripping job if you've got mechanical experience. It's really not that bad, mostly just takes time.
