You had me all confused, couldn’t figure out what the hell a mole panel was. When you installed it and explained it for attachments it became clear. Never heard it called that. The military and the tactical crowd use it on everything but they call it “Molly” M.O.L.L.E. Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment Great job, wish my Cherokee had the upper console.
@@backcountrybeagles no worries, it kept me engaged, waiting for the mystery to be revealed. I’ve seen other panels like that But they were made of steel. Seem like they would add a bunch of weight to the lid. I like the idea of the plastic.
I've literally gone through hundreds of junkyards, and thousands of cherokees over the last 20 years. Never seen a single latch that wasn't broken. lol
Some pretty cool stuff there. And yes, XJ's did come with under hood lights. It was a telescoping style light... And long wire and would reach all around the vehicle. It was a really cool idea, but the telescope part would always crap out,.. the wire wouldn't wind back in. So I ended up taking it out on one of ours... And going to go the route you did. I haven't done it yet, so maybe I'll get this under hood light. The light I myself would put it up higher and more centered in the hood
I coated my headliner backer with fiberglass resin. Front and back with fiberglass resin to make it more rigid. It’s just a thin sheet of cardboard. Then covered it with headliner material. It worked very well.
Under hood light has a switch at the front passenger side corner of the hood (at least on earlier XJs like my 91). I believe it’s a switched ground that completes the circuit whenever the hood is opened. My hood switch broke some years ago, but you’re inspiring me to fix it now haha!
For the center consol, the truth is that you should pick "either/or". As he showed there's little space in the tray so adding the lid attachment will take away more of the little space that was left.
if your looking for these "Overhead Center Consoles", look in early 90's minivans, they had a very similar design, and can be made to work as well. I wish I would have had my 3D printer when I had my XJ, that switch panel is really nice.
The textured finish on the 3d printed parts is from the printing bed/platform they were printed on. That's why it was only on the one side. That was the first layer that was printed and then it moved up from there.
Added to my bday (may) wish list. Yall need to make XJ HVAC vents other than the one with the mount. Super expensive and anytime I try and scrounge them they're cracked or missing. Great products for 3d printing!!
@@backcountrybeagles I completely agree, they don’t make stuff like they used to anymore. But if you’re still having it fall out I think blue lock tight would be a quick cheap fix.
For an under hood light check out the Harbor Freight P/N 63878 @ $1.79. LED bright light runs 48 hours on 3 AAA batteries....no wiring; magnet mount....sick it under hood move where you need it; use on fender for changing tires; use a hand held flashlight. Rong the Riger G-R-E-A-T!!!!
On my XJ the light was on a retractable spring with like a 10’ lead. So you could take the light with you to the back axle to change a tire. When the light was secured in the housing under the hood, it would be off, until you took the light out of the housing. I’m wondering if it was a switched ground within the housing?
That sounds like a sweet setup! I’ll have to keep my eyes out for one at a junkyard. I do think it is a switched ground. I’m going to retest and I’ll let ya’ll know!
Greetings from a fellow XJ owner from Romania. About those two lid screws that constantly unscrew themselves: wrap them in teflon tape and only then screw them back in. You can thank me later 😊
Looking forward to the mount piece as I have one too without that mount. I friend I have said she put in a 12 outlet in the rear storage part and it has bee great. Good idea for a video. She sold me her leather seats and I added heating element and the switch is where the ashtray used to be and it's an excellent location. Those sets also have the electric movement as well and works good after I replaced a gear in it. My latch is still good but that site does have some good ideas I'll be ordering. I love my XJ. It's got 350K miles on it and a newish 4.0. It needs some lighting as well. Thanks for the links and the ideas.
@@backcountrybeagles I do like the rear seat cup holders. Not going for the molle insert. That cover is flimsy as it is. She also gave me an overhead center console after I did my headliner but she left out the metal bracket that holds the console up. I'll have to make one. Cant find one. The overhead switch panel looks like a good replacement for the door that falls of and just looks crappy. When you build your bracket, I'd love the dimensions.
Just FYI, MOLLE is pronounced "Ma lee", not trying to be a nitpicker, just trying to help. I love this video and the showcase of products that my XJ needs!
They have better replacements for the center console latch, I’ll have a video uploaded soon (short video) it eliminates the hole latch part completely, works great!
maybe that ground is a switched ground? If so, that would prevent the draining of your battery if the key was off. I don't know, just a guess. I know jeep is all about switched grounds.
That light for the engine bay is not worth it at all. Get a good quality LED strip, cut it to size, stick it to the hood from the underside and wire it. It will last longer, guve a better angle for you to see something and be dirt cheap to replace once it goes bad
Everyone go check out www.printi-parts.com ! You won’t be disappointed!

I had to find a latch from a junkyard when mine broke. Its good to know that someone makes them.
Couldn’t recommend this one enough!

@lurpwgn lol i am glad i got lucky and found the one unbroken latch! And after all these years it hasn't broken yet!

Wouldn’t be hard to do that. You can use a self tapper and put the bracket basically anywhere under that hood…good idea
You’re doing a hell of a job. Takes a lot of energy and guts to do something like this. Keep it up.
Appreciate it a ton!🤘🏽🔥

Lock tight the loose back lid screws....
There’s this crazy new invention called lock tight. It works great for keeping screws from coming undone.
I've been a mechanic for 87 years and have never heard of this lock-tight. Back in my day our screws didn't need help to stay tight.

Not at the moment, we appreciate the interest though:)

Where are you located. I have the console parts you need.
👀 Western Colorado
It's pronouced MOLLI....as a long E .....not a silent E....
