I just finished binge-watching the whole series two months ago it was fantastic! :)
I moved from Texas to Connecticut 4 years ago and I was a nervous wreck about the winter. We ended up with TONS of snow that first winter and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The north is equipped to deal with lots of snow so you don't feel stranded or like you may die every time you leave the house. The roads get cleared pretty quickly so you don't have the problem.of snow melting then freezing and turning to black ice...at least it's not as big a problem as it is with Texas winter weather. Get a decent pair of snow boots and dress in lots of layers because you can quickly over heat. We are back in Texas now so we didn't stay away long but I will miss having all 4 seasons. Best of luck!

Oh you're going to love it here in Chicago! There's always so much to do and see. Christmas is my favorite time of year here. Everything is covered in snow and the holiday spirit is beautiful.
Moving is so hard! But we are so excited to have you here in Chicago. And, there are a lot of great book stores of course! ❤️
I totally understand how you feel about moving! A little over a year ago I moved from Texas to Tennessee. I had grown up in Greenville (about an hour east of Dallas) and it was weird and hard to move away. Saying goodbye to friends was the hardest part. I will say, though, that it's also so refreshing moving to a new place! There's lots of adventure and a chance to figure yourself out in a place that's new to you! Best of luck with your move! :)

Oh my gosh! You're going to love Chicago! I've lived near it my whole life and out of all the cities I've visited it has been my favorite- there's so much to do and has a lot of culture and diversity. The winters are pretty bad but you get used them after awhile. Overall it's my favorite city, I hope you like it too !

I grew up in Chicago and recently had to move out of state for work! You are going to absolutely love it! Such a culturally rich city with amazing food spots!!! I cannot wait until my career path brings me back!

I'd love to see your moving experience/vlog! I'm actually going to college this fall and experiencing a move myself! (And having to pick a few favorite books to bring with me is so hard)
I've been watching BB since the first season. It's a tradition with my mom. I was pretty young when it started, but it's something I look forward to watching every summer 😊😊 this season has been super crazy and fast paced, love it.
Almost 2 years ago, my husband and I moved from Ohio to Arizona. We had 3 weeks from when we got word that my husband was being transferred to when he had to start in the new location! Gah! It was an insane 3 weeks. We took the time to make our way across the country. We have 2 cars, and we pulled a trailer. Which means I spent 3 days driving across the country all by myself... I listened to a lot of audiobooks! Haha!
A_A KhAn it wasn't too terrible, but we did move in the beginning of August, which meant moving our stuff during 110+ weather! 😱

CHICAGO IS SO GREAT!!!!! I mean, I may be biased because I lived there for almost 4 years (now I live in the suburbs), but those were some of the best years of my life! To me, it didn't really feel like a BIG CITY unless I went down to the loop / Magnificent Mile area, and thus was large but not overwhelmingly so. I hope you love it!!! Good luck with the move!

I moved from NC to Hawaii with only a suitcase in 2009...and the only books that went were the Harry Potters and whatever I was reading at the time. I was so attached to so many of those old books I donated, too. Good luck with your new adventures!

The snow is not as bad as you think it will be! I live in Wisconsin and the winters can get cold but it makes you cherish the nice weather even more! And driving in the snow will be a breeze once you get the hang of it :) and then when it gets to 40 or 50 for the first time again in the spring you will be ready to put shorts on! :)

I still haven't fully accepted that I don't live in the midwest anymore and I've been on the east coast for about a year now. It took me eight months to finally change my driver's license. I think it was hard for me because I'm very family-oriented and my whole family is still in the midwest, and it's just far enough away that a weekend visit is difficult. It definitely has helped having my boyfriend with me though, as I'm sure it'll help you that Clay is going with you! Good luck with your move and new job! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how you decorate your apartment!

Regan, I'm so glad you did this video. I'm moving from Oklahoma to Seattle in three weeks, so I'm experiencing something similar! I've given away or sold over 500 books now, and I'm debating getting rid of more. There's only so much room in a UHAUL... :'( We can do this! It's nice not to feel alone.

As a book lover and someone who has moved many times, I have a couple of tips.
1. Put a list of which books are in the box on the outside of the box. If you are delayed getting things unpacked or if you want to organize things by bookshelf, this helps enormously.
2. Pack books in small boxes. Never larger than a case of paper. Books are heavy, and you will hurt yourself and anyone helping you if you pack big boxes full of books.
3. Since you've downsized your library, have a master list of the books you still have. This way you don't end up with multiple copies and you don't spend a lot of time looking for books you no longer have.

ahhh i love chicago sm, i used to live there and will (hopefully) be moving back there for college! biggest recommendation is to stock up on some nice boots with really deep grooves on the bottom so you don't slip and get a good quality pea coat (my personal favorite because it looks great with a ton of clothing *plus* they're super warm)
Christmas in Chicago is magical! I've lived here my whole life and I still love it especially the downtown area 😊
I just moved from NY to FL and my room is now a lot smaller and I also had to get rid of a ton of books and it was so hard!!! I feel you Regan but that only makes room for more in your new place! :D

Christmas in Chicago is amazing! They have this german fair that comes through in November and it's worth going to. It's super fun and they have a ton of stuff to do there.
I can definitely relate. I find it freeing to only keep absolute favorite books and get rid of ones I'm not crazy about.

I left mine at my parents in Missouri when I moved down to southern Louisiana, bc girl... this heat. Gah!
Hey! I've been watching your channel for awhile. In fact while you were anticipating a move to Chicago, my family and I were as well. At the time we were living in Austin too. We just moved to Chicago at the beginning of this Jult. I still work for UT but I do so remotely. I am also a native Texan, but this is my second time leaving the state. I left previously to go to college in Missouri. All of my friends still stay in Houston. I tried to make sure to see everyone we could before we left. It is hard, but I am already planning trips back home for various weddings, events, etc.
We did the U-haul crate thing. In fact, in the end, I'm glad we went that route because it allowed us to keep adding things to the crate until the end. The downside, we couldn't tell them where to send it until we had a new residential address here in Chicago. So we just got our stuff last weekend.
Getting rid of the books was so hard, but honestly I'm glad I did. Chicago is a reader's paradise. There are so many independent bookstores in the city. I've already acquired like 15 books since I got here. One downside that I've noticed is that you have to go to the suburbs to shop at Half Price Books. That bookstore was a mainstay for me but I found one in Niles that I can get to by taking public transportation. The summers are so cool here. We've had 70 -80 degree days since we got here and it's JULY!! That would never happen in Texas. The breezes coming from Lake Michigan are so nice. Keep in mind the farther in land that you move, the more humid it is. Yet not to Houston or Austin levels. There are tons of things to do. I've been going out every weekend to find something to do and sometimes I don't even make it my destination because I discover something else along the way.
Do you guys know what neighborhood you're moving to? Have you found an apartment locator/broker? If you would like more advice or tips about what is encountered when relocating to Chicago from Austin this summer, I would be more than happy to discuss it further.

I moved from Iowa to Florida. My husband is stationed down here, and once I moved he ended up deploying. So I was completely alone. However, it makes you adapt and gives you a fresh start to how you see things. I'm sure your move will be fine. Though, with Chicago, collapsable grocery cart for traveling. My friend and grandparents lived there. Also thick long winter coats with cute hats and mittens for winter. They are harsh.

Also I can't believe that some people have never had snow during Christmas. The winters here in Wyoming last from October to April and it can get realllly cold. When people first move here I know can be a show for some of them but I know you'll be fine. And Christmas with snow is the best thing in the world. I don't like it for six months, but I do love it.
This new Big Brother season IS INSANE so far like WOAHH!!!!!!
When I moved across the country, the best thing that helped me was to try and find some local groups with similar interests to make new friends! Good luck!!

I moved around a lot as a kid and into my early 20's and being the new kid sucks! I have been away from my parents since I was 18. (I was in the military, and I just had a different life plan) It is really hard at first, and the culture shock will be refreshing for you. Chicago is 2 hours north of my hometown (Bloomington, IL) The book culture there alone will be amazing!

OMG YOU'RE MOVING TO CHICAGO YOU HAVE TO EAT LOU MALNATIS DEEP DISH AND GET PORTILLOS FOR SURE. Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder is another awesome place (slightly more expensive so for a date night) where your order cheese in your pizza by the pound! Congrats on moving out here! I know you'll miss your home city, but Chicago is mine and I love it and hope you'll love it too!

Tracy Osimowicz This is so crazy! My oldest brother lives in Austin (like Reagan) but moved to Chicago (also like Reagan) for summer so I visited him a few days ago. It was my first time ever in Chicago & I had Lou Malnati's which I also highly recommend now
The concept of not having snow during the winter is crazy lol, don't worry to much about the weather, just know you will have to shovel and be uncomfortably bundled up in clothes.

Give it a go you don't need to be reading the latest books to have a channel. I recently started and I am on a serious book buying ban so all the books I am featuring are pretty much all pre 2017 releases!
We recently started our channel! BookTube is amazing! We get some books from the library and buy some! Nobody worries about that! Go for it! ;)

As someone who lives in Canada, my advice to you for loving winter is don't be afraid to invest some money into warm boots and coat etc that you love! As long as you have the right outwear winter won't seem so tough. I spent years freezing my butt of waiting for the bus cause I refused to spend money on actually warm boots. 🙄
I live right outside Chicago in the western suburbs. The winters for the last two or three years have been pretty mild except for a few cold spells in December and January. I don't even think we got that much snow last year.

I'm moving from New York to Georgia and I actually just packed up all of my books a few hours ago. I've been getting rid of some of them over the past month but I found that when I was actually putting them in boxes I was a lot better at being realistic about what
I should bring and what I should give away. Also putting books in boxes is a lot like playing Tetris

Hey! I'm a college student living in Chicago and I know you'll love Chicago once you get here! There's a couple of super cool bookstores in Wicker Park. One of them is called Myopic Books and is this super cool used book store that has tons of levels and so many books. But if you are looking for newer books there's a bookstore down the street from Myopic called Volumes bookcafe that has all the new books plus cute little quirky gift items!
also myopic books is a good place to take an artsy instagram picture :)
