I meant it as in the way I read Fantasy books, because it were the best ones I ever read. There's a pretty fun Interview with Patrick Rothfuss which assumes why these books are like so much when they are, because he didnt write a lot of scenes that we simply imagined as if they were there. I mean its obvious that this happens with a lot of books, but never in that way to me like it did with those.
JUST finished The Crimson Crown a couple days ago and OH MY GOSH it was amazing. Definitely one of my favorite series! Throne of Glass is of course also on my favorites list, and the rest are all on my TBR list!
Maybe it's weird to think this, but I quite like the old covers! The one with the girl in a dark cloak looking feircely at something to the right of the cover while holding a thin sharp dagger, and thin lightning like designs in the background. There is a background of the city in a pinkish haze.
when it comes to covers, i always prefer something that is drawn out, that's why i love the hardcover art so much, not really a big fan of the illustrations of the originals, and the uk version i actually only like the first book cover, the 2nd and 3rd one have a real life face on them which i dislike, i hate covers that have pictures of real life people, can't do it. idk lol that's just me
Oh my gosh I just finished reading the Mistborn trilogy, which I picked up because I saw one of your other videos where you talked about how much you loved it, and it is now one of my favorites too! I cannot wait to read more of his books!
I truly love reading. However, sometimes I find myself procrastinating on things I really like. So instead of reading in my free time I almost waste my time watching OTHER people talk about BOOKs I want to read. I could just read the books myself I would like it better that way anyway but I just stay on TH-cam and tumblr.... Do you have any advice for me? I really want to change my behaviour :)
crazytoenail Start off by reading smaller, easier books that don't take too much dedication but are engrossing. Then work your way up. I entered a slump for quite a while where I wasn't reading much, but then I decided to pick up a relatively short, not too difficult novel and it really helped me get back into the zone.
You have an amazing ability to explain books in a way that doesn't spoil them but gives me enough info to know if I want to give it a read! Thank you so much, I have found so many "best of life" books because of you!
I have so many of these series sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read because of you! I'm excited to read all of these and pick up the (only two) that I don't have yet!
I'm a newcomer to book channels, but yours is far and away my favorite that I've come across so far! I've shelved a lot of books on Goodreads thanks to your recommendation. Thank you so much for these videos!
I was expecting Game Of Thrones, but then I remembered you still need to get back into Storm Of Swords. I agree with a lot of your choices! Love your channel!
I have read more adult paranormal romance but you booktubers have really got me interested in YA. I have my list ready. Thanks for the recommendations and great descriptions.
I have actually just read the Throne of Glass and am currently reading Crown of Midnight. I adore both books and have been on the edge of my seat many times while reading them. Can't wait to finish Crown of Midnight and move onto Heir of Fire!
I literally had to pause for a second when I saw this video in my subscription feed because I am so damn excited!! Fantasy is my favorite genre and you have given me countless recommendations that have changed the way I look at the genre!!! THANK YOU!!!
My top five: 1) Percy Jackson 2)Gregor the Overlander 3) A Song of Ice and Fire 4) The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel 5) Maximum Ride Not one was mentioned (Salty).
I did not read much fantasy last year at all, which is something that I WILL BE WORKING ON this year because it is my favorite genre, so your video gave me some ideas of what I want to read next. Great video as always!!!
Finnikin of the Rock sounds awesome! I've never heard of it, so I'm absolutely going to have to check it out. Same with Pathfinder, the concept of that sounds so original!
You've talked up the Mistborn trilogy SO MUCH that I had to set aside all of my other high fantasy series and read it immediately. You were not wrong. Now I own a dozen Brandon Sanderson books haha. Thanks for all the recommendations!
I really, really enjoyed this video! Pretty much all of these books are on my must read asap list but I loved your descriptions and reasons for loving them. Made me really excited to pick them up!
The Throne of Glass series is also my favourite series! I have a shelf with all of the Sarah J Maas books she's ever written and I call it my most awesome shelf. Have you tried the Court of Thorns and Roses series, also by Sarah J Maas? The third book comes out May 2nd and I can't wait!!! I will definitely be checking out the other books on your list, with priority for Graceling, that really captured my interest! Great video!!
Thank you for this video! Fantasy is my favorite genre and I just want to read more (though there are some on this list I have read.) Just ordered the beautiful UK mistborn editions on Saturday. Hopefully it'll get here soon! The Demon King Series and Finnikin of The Rock both look so good. Still need to read the rest of both Throne of Glass and Daughter of Smoke and Bone but loved them both so I'm excited.
Thanks to coming across this video randomly, I decided to pick the Codex Alera back up. I had read the first book and thought it was okay, read through the second, and stopped midway through the third book and never picked it back up. Rereading Furies of Calderon, I really, really regret that I wasn't more into the books more when I started reading them the first time. I'm really wanting to finish it now. Thanks for bringing that series back into my head. Then again, I am a fan of the Dresden Files, so it's not like I forgot about Codex Alera, I just need someone praising them to the degree you did for me to reconsider them.
I just subscribed when you mentioned Falling Kingdoms. That series is my latest obsession! You seem to have good taste and that is why I will check out these books.
Fantasy is my favorite genre but I'm ashamed to say that I've only read 2 series on your list! (Throne of Glass and Daughter of Smoker and Bone.) Most of the others are on my TBR so this is just what I needed to inspire me to get to them!
The Codex Alera is probably my favorite book series ever! I LOVE the magic system, the characters are so amazing and well-penned, Ravi’s growth through the series is fantastic. Ugh, LOVE IT!
I've added a couple books to my tbr pile, can never read too many fantasy books! I loved The Daughter of Smoke & Bone, my only pet peeve during the book is how secretive everything was!! My goodness, just when they're about to explain something, it takes another 100 pages to actually tell you agh! haha Still loved it, completely agree about how beautiful her writing is. Am reading the 2nd in the series now. :)
So fricking keen for Queen of Shadows! SO KEEN. And A Court of Thorn and Roses! Sarah J Maas just generally is a queen. Don't even argue with me on this. She is queen.
Such a great list! I hope you'll read the Stormlight Archive books by Sanderson since it's so great itmakes even his other books appear"average"! I'd also recommend the Kingkiller's Chronicles series by Patrick Rothfuss! It is truly exceptional.
Great video. No wasted time. Straight to the point. I'm here because I'm considering either Mistborn or the King Killer chronicles. I read one of the Malazan series but had no idea what was going on for the most part. Thanks for the suggestions!
no Bone Season?! i guess we need more books to be released before it can fit into the favorites category. but Mistborn & Finnikin, yessss. such good picks.
So my TBR pile just grew right now lol. I actually have the box set of the Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima - I just need to get around to reading it already.
I love your videos! They are so entertaining to watch and I'm learning about so many other fantasy series out there! I'm going to check out Cinda Williams Chima now
I love this video and mad props for The Seven Realms mention!! I'm currently on the final books of that series and I don't want it to end!! Great work!! :)
i just finished hero of ages this weekend... haahaha... haha... ha... #dead also i'm so happy to see daughter of smoke and bone on the list! that trilogy is so gorgeous and detailed, i looove it.
Thanks for making this! I thought I read a lot of fantasy, but I haven't read any of these (except the first Mistborn book) so I think I'm going to have to go out and get some!
On your recommendation I read Falling Kingdoms and I absolutely love it! I marathoned all 3 books in under a week :D I'm so excited to read the other books you've talked about here! Thanks!
I bought the Seven Realms box set a while ago but haven't quite gotten to it. But seeing you talk about it now makes me wanna pick it up soon! And also everything else on your list that o haven't read yet :)
I finished The Wise Man's Fear from Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles in January and I have tried to get into other fantasy books again since, but everything just seems to pale in comparison; everything about that series is just so phenomenal. Hopefully one of these will end my Rothfuss hangover! Anyone have any suggestions which? I'm drawn to Sanderson, but I think it's largely because the YA label does put me off the others because it makes me worry the language will be simpler and beautiful language is something I really look for in a book.
The Demon King is my favorite book series! I loved Throne of Glass too, and several of the others that you mentioned have been on my TBR for awhile. I really want to read Mistborn, especially. Thank you for making this video!
Haven't finished with the first Mistborn book yet, but so far, the book is so awesome! I so love the interesting way in which they use their abilities. Never would have thought of a magic system like that. It's so refreshing and different from the typical magic abilities.
awesome video! I'm getting back into fantasy lately, I just finished the final empire and I forgot how much I love fantasy novels so this video came at a perfect time in my reading life. xx
My favourite fantasy series is The Old Kindom series. The books are just sooo amazing! I really recommend that you check them out. I am also currently reading another amazing series called Shadows of the Apt. I'm only on book 3 of 10, but so far I'm really loving it and the concept is just so unique. I think I also have to give a mention to The Inheritence Cycle (the Eragon books). The books did have some small problems, but overall they were very good aswell!
I haven't read any of those but I do have the Laini Taylor book. your list was great & I'm getting more into fantasy so I'll have to check some of those out.
Oh the blood of the Hanalea, thank you so much for recommending The Demon King, it is such an awesome book. I have never finished a big book before in my life, flew through this book like no buddy's business. I love game of thrones, but so scared to start reading because it's so big and everything. But I think I can read it now. Thanks so much again. I have already started the second book, don't want it to end, so happy there are 2 more books to read. Once I finish I will going through your other recommendations. Thanks very much. You are awesome!
Ugh, I love Cinda Williams Chima. I read the Seven Realms Series, Flamecaster of the Shattered Realms and I'm starting to read the Heir series. She's my favorite author so far and I have no regrets. Also I'm camping for Shadowcaster so there's that XD -I can't even wait till April. I have to have it now-
Time-Travel, the only two words I ever need to hear in a element for a novel. "Pathfinder" has been added to my To-read list. From the books you have read which ones contain the strongest element of using portals to different time periods or alternate realities?
So I just finished The Mistborn Trilogy based on your recommendations, and I must say it was excellent! I have a very bad book hangover over right now, but it was excellent. I am going to go wallow in my feels now.
I love Graceling and Daughter of smoke and bone too ^^ You have to read Elantris and the name of the wind, they are on my favourites , I hope you'll enjoy it! De los que has puesto me encantan graceling e Hija de Humo y Hueso también ^^ Tienes que leer Elantris y El nombre del viento, están entre mis favoritos, Espero que los disfrutes!
I'm so happy you included Graceling! I feel like it's so often overlooked on Booktube, but it's been my favorite fantasy novel for years. Katsa and Bitterblue are such strong, complex female characters and they deserve all the recognition in the world
So many amazing books! I wanna start Mistborn sooo bad but I only want the UK covers but I keep talking myself out of buying them cause I know I can get the others for so much cheaper.
We also love Melina Marchetta! If you haven't read her other books, we highly recommend 'Looking for Alibrandi' and 'Saving Francesca'. They're contemporary YA and super addictive reads :)
Hey, thanks for the ideas, I've read Hobbit, LOTR, ASOIAF, sword of truth (which was awesome!) and am on the last book of codex alera, will definitely try some of these next. I hear a lot of good things about wheel of time too.
Graceling has been on my TBR forever. I absolutely loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Throne of Glass. Completely agree that it's better to go into DoSaB without knowing too much.
Since you mentioned that you like well written combat in fantasy, I'd really recommend R.A. Salvatore's The Icewind Dale Trilogy. (If you haven't already). there's a ton in the series so far, since he's been writing the Drizzt character since 1988, but the first trilogy is a must.
Oh my gosh I read Finnikin of the Rock as a teen and had no idea it was a trilogy! I saw the plot twist coming a mile away and it put me off looking the book up after I finished it, but maybe I'll give it another shot since there's more.
I have taken an interest in one of the series you have mentioned. Throne of Glass series looks promising and if you have the time I would like to know all the book titles in order because I can't seem to know which is the first second or third. Also you have great taste in books as I am also a huge fan of the seven realms series as I have read it at least three times, so keep up the great content.
I love fantasy so much, so obviously I need to read all of these! I will be starting the Throne of Glass series soon. A few fantasy series that I love that you didn't mention are the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin and The Books of Pellinor by Allison Croggon
My favorite series are Malazan Book of the Fallen, Broken Empire, Night Angel, Kingkiller Chronicles, The First Law, Stormlight Archive, A Song of Ice and Fire, Worldbreaker Saga,Prince of Nothing, and Tolkien of course. If anyone is reading this try those, they aren't YA though.
Omg I love you I have been dying to find fantasy books that are as amazing as some of the ones you mentioned, idk why I've only just thought to look on TH-cam!
if i had to chose only one booketuber to watch for the rest of my life- it would for sure be you! great taste in books, great video quality, funny, honest and beautiful regan! x
Hi Regan, I really like your videos. I read a loooot and sometimes I read some books just becouse of you (some of these titles are "to be released" for years in italian, so I read in english instead gaining a lot of time)thanks! Speaking of fantasy: 1.Have you ever read J.R.R. Tolkien's books? This is one of my favourite writers of all the time, maybe "The Hobbit" is a good start. 2.You may also like "Icemark" series by Stuart Hill, a (YA?)high fantasy series that reminds me of the Disney Pixar's "the Brave"+"The chronicles of Narnia" and 3.the "Eagle & jaguar" trilogy by Isabel Allende, a sort of fantasy with a "National Geographic" mood. 4.Finally a female writer:Licia Troisi, "Nihal of the land of the wind" is her first book about a kick-ass female protagonist in a high fantasy world, check it out. I don't know if you've already read them, but I think you may like them. 5.About fantasy but in comics/graphic novel world you might really like "Bone" by Jeff Smith.Byee! (Yes, I also write a looot xD)
+Castelli di carta Yess!! finally someone advising Licia Troisi!! It was my absolute favourite book when I was younger...also all of her books revolve around a female character... Are you Italian? I haven't met many foreigners knowing the series...
Throne of Glass was really difficult to get into. I remember reading the dialogue between Dorian and his father at the beginning of the book and cringing at how bad it was. To be honest, I only finished it so I could read the rest since everyone was saying that it gets better, and thank god I did! Sooooo much better! Crown of Midnight is amazing, very entertaining and Celaena and Kaol were great together, I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
The only fantasy i've read is the first book in Eragon and I'm really interested in exploring the genre! Thank you for all the great recommendations. Graceling, Mistborn, Daughter of Smoke & Bone and Throne of Glass interested me the most. ARGHH HOW DO I BUY SO MANY BOOKS? ( central problem of my life)
The books you mentioned that I've read, I loved. So clearly I need to immediately read all the others okay thank you.
Seconded!
Third! ;)
I love your vids Kat! Your makeup is always perfect btw ;)
;D
Same! Definitely added books to my TBR
Guys..The Name of the Wind/The Kingkiller Chronicles. These books were lifechanging for me, I'm a little sad they arent in there.
I love them too, but how did they change your life?
I meant it as in the way I read Fantasy books, because it were the best ones I ever read. There's a pretty fun Interview with Patrick Rothfuss which assumes why these books are like so much when they are, because he didnt write a lot of scenes that we simply imagined as if they were there. I mean its obvious that this happens with a lot of books, but never in that way to me like it did with those.
I hope my explanation isnt total blabbering, english is not my first language, sorry :D
+Fayeluria I kind of understand :) to me they are the best fantasy books along with the Game of Thrones books and The Demon King books
I dont know The Demon King, i might have to check that out, thanks (:
JUST finished The Crimson Crown a couple days ago and OH MY GOSH it was amazing. Definitely one of my favorite series!
Throne of Glass is of course also on my favorites list, and the rest are all on my TBR list!
priceiswong Woo! I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed it!
priceiswong YES! I love the series so much I'm currently in the middle of rereading it
Just ordered the beautiful covers for Mistborn! So excited!
YAYUS
You're so lucky you got the prettty UK covers!
the uk covers for the paperbacks look great but the north american hardcovers look amazing, the artwork is too good
Maybe it's weird to think this, but I quite like the old covers! The one with the girl in a dark cloak looking feircely at something to the right of the cover while holding a thin sharp dagger, and thin lightning like designs in the background. There is a background of the city in a pinkish haze.
when it comes to covers, i always prefer something that is drawn out, that's why i love the hardcover art so much, not really a big fan of the illustrations of the originals, and the uk version i actually only like the first book cover, the 2nd and 3rd one have a real life face on them which i dislike, i hate covers that have pictures of real life people, can't do it. idk lol that's just me
throne of glass is amazing
Regan, please do a updated favorite fantasy books!! I love your fantasy book recommendations
Oh my gosh I just finished reading the Mistborn trilogy, which I picked up because I saw one of your other videos where you talked about how much you loved it, and it is now one of my favorites too! I cannot wait to read more of his books!

Ehm, turn off your internet?
You have an amazing ability to explain books in a way that doesn't spoil them but gives me enough info to know if I want to give it a read! Thank you so much, I have found so many "best of life" books because of you!

Many thanks for posting this list, in particular. Just picked up Mistborn and already I can tell it's a rewarding read!!

Great video, thanks for sharing your fave fantasy books! I'd really like to see a recommendations or favourites video for historical fiction, too.
These are all on my tbr already, from hearing about them in your past videos, but now I need to start reading them all more than ever!!
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin ?
I just finished Gathering Darkness and I'm completely in love!
I literally had to pause for a second when I saw this video in my subscription feed because I am so damn excited!! Fantasy is my favorite genre and you have given me countless recommendations that have changed the way I look at the genre!!! THANK YOU!!!
My top five:
1) Percy Jackson
2)Gregor the Overlander
3) A Song of Ice and Fire

5) Maximum Ride
Not one was mentioned (Salty).

Have you considered reading Name of the Wind, Its so amazing it feels like a thousand stories all consisting to make one beautiful story.
Fantasy is my favorite genre but I'm ashamed to say that I've only read 2 series on your list! (Throne of Glass and Daughter of Smoker and Bone.) Most of the others are on my TBR so this is just what I needed to inspire me to get to them!
Reagan omg i've commented this before but i distinctly remember you having a song of ice and fire and i highly highly highly recommend it
The Codex Alera is probably my favorite book series ever! I LOVE the magic system, the characters are so amazing and well-penned, Ravi’s growth through the series is fantastic. Ugh, LOVE IT!

Thank you for your recommendations, they never go wrong, especially for fantasy. You're the go-to booktuber for that genre tbh
no Bone Season?! i guess we need more books to be released before it can fit into the favorites category. but Mistborn & Finnikin, yessss. such good picks.
WellDoneBooks I have only read the first book! maybe in my next one ;D
The Bone Season Series is SO gooooooood!! I realle can't wait to read the next one!! Is it 2016 yet?
So my TBR pile just grew right now lol. I actually have the box set of the Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima - I just need to get around to reading it already.
I love your videos! They are so entertaining to watch and I'm learning about so many other fantasy series out there! I'm going to check out Cinda Williams Chima now
I pretty much always go to you when I'm in the mood for a fantasy read! Love all these though :)
Mistborn yassssss! Did anyone read wheel of time? Coz that's how I found Brandon Sanderson frankly saying
Thats how I found out about Brandon Sanderson. I was reading the wheel of time last year.
Rainy Liu Mistborn is how I found out Wheel of Time :D
Rainy Liu I want to read TWoT, but I'm already reading ASOIaF and both series are sooo long.
I love this video and mad props for The Seven Realms mention!! I'm currently on the final books of that series and I don't want it to end!! Great work!! :)
i just finished hero of ages this weekend... haahaha... haha... ha... #dead
also i'm so happy to see daughter of smoke and bone on the list! that trilogy is so gorgeous and detailed, i looove it.
Thanks for making this! I thought I read a lot of fantasy, but I haven't read any of these (except the first Mistborn book) so I think I'm going to have to go out and get some!
So I just spent the last three weeks reading kingkiller after your suggestion... Amazing. Probably the best books I've read. Thank you!
On your recommendation I read Falling Kingdoms and I absolutely love it! I marathoned all 3 books in under a week :D I'm so excited to read the other books you've talked about here! Thanks!
I really want to read Gracling now!
I love finding new books to read! Thanks Regan, I need to pick up the ones I haven't read soon :)
I bought the Seven Realms box set a while ago but haven't quite gotten to it. But seeing you talk about it now makes me wanna pick it up soon! And also everything else on your list that o haven't read yet :)

Try The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson. They are REALLY good
I agree. Sanderson is the closest to Rothfuss you'll ever get
The Demon King is my favorite book series!
I'm reading it too, and also loving the magic system. (Also, I really like the purplish cover with Vin in the cloak with the dagger, too). ^_^
Books Beauty Ameriie I know, thanks! About the cover, I guess it's just personal taste! I do like the non-white one better though.
No 'His Dark Materials'?!!!
Ikr it's the best
awesome video! I'm getting back into fantasy lately, I just finished the final empire and I forgot how much I love fantasy novels so this video came at a perfect time in my reading life. xx
I just got this video recommended for no reason but I love having a Reagan throwback nonetheless :)
These overviews are so informative and interesting. Great job!
I just found your channel, and it is Amazing! finally an awesome channel to geek out on books. Much Excitement!
Also I'm camping for Shadowcaster so there's that XD
-I can't even wait till April.
I love Graceling and Daughter of smoke and bone too ^^
You have to read Elantris and the name of the wind, they are on my favourites , I hope you'll enjoy it!
De los que has puesto me encantan graceling e Hija de Humo y Hueso también ^^
Tienes que leer Elantris y El nombre del viento, están entre mis favoritos, Espero que los disfrutes!
I've read all those books or at least one from the series' except for Finnikin and Pathfinder. I do own Pathfinder though so I should get to that! :D
Mistborn absolutely incredible. Read the series 5 times. Love the all twists in the final book.
love fantasy so I would surely check them all out...thank you for your recommendations...
Making me feel excited about Mistborn. Need to read Sanderson!
ahhh! I'm so excited for this video from you! You're my favorite person to look for recommendations.
I saw the title of this video and immediately went to grab a pen and paper. lol I always end up loving the books you recommend. Thanks for the video.
read and enjoyed, mistborn, seven realms, throne of glass, and graceling, i am about to try the falling kingdoms now.
I'm so happy you included Graceling! I feel like it's so often overlooked on Booktube, but it's been my favorite fantasy novel for years. Katsa and Bitterblue are such strong, complex female characters and they deserve all the recognition in the world
I ordered Pathfinders solely on your recommendation I'm glad to see it on your list.
Added a ton to my TBR! I'm finding I love fantasy. It's a new discovery and I'm embracing it.
Throne of glass is so so so good!! Thank you for recommending it I loved it❤️❤️
Thank you for some new wonderful tips on fantasy books!
Fantasy is my favourite genre, I haven't heard of some of these but I want to read them all now!
I love your videos! So hard to find book lovers at my college so, I like to watch your videos and fangirl over books so I don't feel so alone! lol :)
Thank you sooo much for this video!!! 😍😍😍
I love Throne of Glass series but I'm disappointed in Heir of Fire. I hope that next book will be better.
I thought The Hobbit or Lord of The Rings would have been at least an honorable mention.
Agreed
Mitchel Anhalt definitely
Oh my gosh I read Finnikin of the Rock as a teen and had no idea it was a trilogy! I saw the plot twist coming a mile away and it put me off looking the book up after I finished it, but maybe I'll give it another shot since there's more.
I have taken an interest in one of the series you have mentioned. Throne of Glass series looks promising and if you have the time I would like to know all the book titles in order because I can't seem to know which is the first second or third. Also you have great taste in books as I am also a huge fan of the seven realms series as I have read it at least three times, so keep up the great content.
I own or have read all but two of these books. I listen to your recommendations apparently
just bought my own copy of Throne of Glass! Now I want to read it even more! :D
Yes I have found someone who has heard of the Icemark chronicles!
( central problem of my life)
Lol
The books you mentioned were all stacked up on that table behind you and i could see them all.
BTW codex alera is set is Carna, Alera is just the antion in which most of the plot takes place.
