  • Join myself and ‪@MartinZero‬ as we venture high up onto Saddleworth Moor in the hunt of a mysterious and strange tunnel. We take a look inside and try to solve the mystery of the syphon tunnel and why it is there. We also take a look at the surrounding area, including the Dovestone and Chew Reservoirs and an old abandoned tram road.

    Very interesting, back then they certainly took pride in their workmanship, the stonework on those portals is magnificent, by the way, Salts mill has been out of bounds this week as they have been filming the new Gentleman Jack , Saltaire as you know lends itself to period dramas with its wonderful architecture, rambling ... anyway, I enjoy the Martin collaborations.

    I love to jog up to Chew reservoir and back down again. Theres also WW2 plane wreckages dotted around the area as when the planes hit the peat they just sunk into the soil and where left there. Theres also the stone cut shepherds hut which was chiseled into the rock face.

  • @gilles111
    @gilles111 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're correct. The 2 valves at the pipe in the tunnel are air leek valves to prevent an airlock in the higher placed pipe in the tunnel. The temperature in tunnels, caves etc. (without traffic) is constant at 12C. Nice video!

    I was here a few months ago - although i went the other way around which starts at that old quarry - theres some really interesting rock formations called the Trinnacles further on. You end up climbing a big waterfall on the way up,i think it was something like a 20 mile trek and it was dense fog hehe.

    How's your back now, Darren? Thanks for adding the photos of the area from days gone by. This time, I have preferred your explore to Martin's version. Perhaps because it's much more concise. I am imagining your silence, walking through the tunnel, during Martin's explore, was due to you feeling uncomfortable with the size and length of the tunnel. I couldn't have coped stooping at 5ft 8 (same as you). Stunning to see how well built the tunnel is.

    • @AdventureMe
      @AdventureMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By the time we reached the tunnel, I was exhausted and ready to sit down. So a 560 metre clamber wasn't fun. I was aching for days afterwards, but it was all worth it in the end.
