- Gave neck training a shot after thinking about it for years, and hearing Andrew Huberman and Tim Ferris bring it up on Tim's podcast. The results were interesting.

I suffered a concussion 6 months ago and all my muscles just disappeared. My body got so weak that my neck and throat muscles had a hard time holding my head up which resulted in pain... strange. Anyway, it was then I began working my neck through similar exercises as in this video. I then realised how important it was. Training the neck will be with me for the rest of my life.
Liked the video!
Hope you’re doing well now.
Did you have any hip issues or tilt in your hips?
The towel neck crunches have made the biggest change to my face and posture. A good few weird looks in the gym or people coming over and asking if I do contact sports. Wrestlers and boxers do this.
I started doing this a little over a month ago. I use bands about every five days. I'm 82 and have noticed the loose skin us old farts have under our chins, has gotten smaller. I didn't have this in mind when I started. I started because I was having a hard time turning my head far enough sometimes to see oncoming traffic. All I can say is that it works. I do 15 to 25 reps on all four sides. I am still a little reluctant to go to a bigger bands but I am starting to think about it. I have trained for over sixty years three to four times a week, but never any neck work. So far so good. I would recommend it.
Love this, thanks for sharing!
Great video. I started working out my neck a few weeks ago and gained about a half inch. Definitely helps with that “fuller” look and better posture for sure!
great video man. straight forward , interesting, educational , thank you man
Thank you for making this bro
Great video, man! Very informative. Keep it going! You will get more views, keep it!
Loved the video, bro! You have great energy.
Really cool video!! Thanks a lot, I’m definitely going to try it!!!
Great video!
loved how you described the results in terms of spine-strength and "subconscious" confidence etc. this really motivated me.
I did the plate crunches and I immediately feel better about my posture. Thanks. I'll definitely try doing these regularly.
Awesome video. Didn’t know how to do a neck exercise so this vid really helped me. Gonna train it in 20 minutes for the first time in my life😅 thx again
I do the towel-biting crunch as well and it hits the jaw muscles as well so it's a great exercise for both training the neck and improving your jawline.
Man I love the way u talk
This is a great video, the exact info I’ve been wanting, thank you for going through the battle before me haha
your dentist would die if he saw the towel biting neck crunches
He would fire me as a patient haha
Why?
Why?
Worked for Mike Tyson and he had strong enough jaws and teeth to rip off ears
Hahahah yeah buddy true as i dentist I confirm 😂😂😂
Thanks I am 65 and need something to strengthen my neck. I almost most bought the iron neck, I will try these cost free.
I will try this man definitely man
It makes sense, just look up some old Mike Tyson neck training videos 😎
👌🏼😎
Fair warning dont do it like mike did it because I think hes said he damaged his neck
You can do the same kind of training especially the sides if you just apply pressure with your hand against the side of your head and tilt your head to the side for reps.
I just ordered rubber exercise bands from Amazon. I will use them to exercise the neck.
More important to train movement resistance than movement for the neck.
You can use your hand, your car Seat while driving, a slam ball instead of a plate,. A easy resistance band works great too
Your car seat? How?
Going to add this to my training. Always have been self conscious about my neck after having radiation therapy for hodgkins disease when I was 17. Received treatment in my neck and chest area. It's hard to find a definitive answer if I would have permanent muscle atrophy in those areas. I'm sure it's not good, but hopefully training my neck couldn't be a bad thing for many of the benefits you mentioned even if can't achieve the full asthetic aspect I was hoping to accomplish.
Just start out light. So light that you barely feel anything. You can always work up to a higher weight friend. I always proceed cautiously when it comes to the neck. GOOD LUCK FRIEND
Did lots of the bite crunched during my fight career and still do at times. Old muay thai exercise from way back. Helps when getting clipped imo.
The upper traps are huge, there is no way you're challenging them with any weight that you can hold with your teeth.
Literally just buy a head harness for 20€.
How many days a week should you do this? Sorry if I missed it!
I always find it hard to hold the plate against my head with the right amount of pressure.
I have always done the neck rolls from the football days. They work too
fun fact: andrew huberman actually did thai boxing for several years and even had a few fights. I wonder if he got the idea to train his neck from martial arts?
Great exercises. Although, I do have one other attachment to my body, that is way more important.
Leaning neck isometrics against the wall.
this is for all developers around the world
Would the towel biting crunches mess up my teeth? they seem like a really good option (i have braces btw)
Seeing from the front, people always look better when the width of their neck gets closer to the width of their jaw.
I would not do it with that huge range of motion. I would do it with static holds. Spine, especially neck doesn't like range of motion while under load
If you get a boxing head guard and cable tie a weight plate to the top, then the can get a good neck workout.
Warning,- don’t use it like this for sparring
What do you think about neck harness weight lifting?
Get a boxing head guard instead and tie a weight plate to it to train your neck, it’s more versatile
In muaythai gyms in thailand the alwlays do neck training
Just get a heavy old school football helmet and wear it around the house for a bit everyday. My helmet made my neck huge for years
Wear a helmet around the house lmao
Just listen to metal music and headbang. Most metalheads have insane necks, look at Corey Taylor and corpsegrinder.
haha resist chokes.
I mean it sounds fun , I'll try it.
any chance of pulling teeth out when biting the towel and pulling up?
Wait where's the after video? Shouldn't the base of your neck be slightly wider than your jaw?
Aw man, this was the after! Could’ve shown better angles my bad
i tried it twice in the past week and it felt great. How often can i do this exercise?
Awesome! I wouldn’t do it back to back days just so you leave time to recover, but as often as every other day
@@BackMuscleSolutions got it, thanks for your reply.
Of course, good luck with it
Does it improve your vocal cords?
What does it have to do with it? 😆😅
Why not just do neck curls off the end of your bed mate?
I do them like 5 nights a week, it is as habitual as brushing my teeth.
No reason, I just enjoy the weights. Do you do side and back neck curls off the bed too?
@@BackMuscleSolutions Sometimes back, but I'm going to start doing them more.
I just like to keep things simple.
Makes sense! Something new to try I appreciate the comment
@@BackMuscleSolutions I mean as long as you're getting results!
No worries, thanks for video/replying.
They dont train all the muscles
Can you do these with bands ?
If you find a way not to risk them slapping you in the face, sure :) Honestly, I found it hard to do it. It slips of the head, etc. Better to use just your hands, lying on the floor/bench using gravity, or weights.
how frequently should I train neck?
If you use correct technique and dont go to hardcore with weights or reps, why not everyday. Its like the one bodypart that is always at work whether you are sitting down or standing up. It needs to be strong. And dont forget to warm it up a bit and stretch it before and after. You dont even have to use weights or a bench. You can do all those exercises in front of the mirror, using only your hands/palms as resistance too. But remember, be mindful of technique. Dont pull/push too far. Start slow and light, and feel your way, and look in the mirror for correct posture. Then add pressure. I have set it as a routine after brushing my teeth (to remember it) and it takes about 10-15 minutes, and then your head rests like a baby on the pillow.
Towel biting neck extensions make about as much sense as deadlifts with the weight attached to your balls.
Your upper traps can lift many times more than what you can hold with your teeth.
Sounds like a weak jaw and very strong balls good bud
watch training videos from Sonny Liston and Mike Tyson. You dont need anything but bodyweight
👍
doing it for a few years with a "head harness", i dont like those towel and bite techniques
dont bother with sides its too dangerous, u can do the front plate crunch and for back do the harness OR just do heavy barbell shrugs which work the upper trap and back of the neck very well.
What about doing sides but only lightly, with resistance bands?
You didn’t list the weight you’re using or the reps or the sets. You should list those
Just because he does a certain amount of reps or weight doesn't mean you should copy try it yourself
Placebo results then
You got a small neck
dude grab your head with your hand(fingers) and try move it with resistence, believe me it works.
You wouldn't know if you're getting stronger with your technique in your training
@@ahmarammar4024 yu're right. hard to tell. maybe only by size...
@RDD87z no you can't tell at all because the tension is constantly changing from each rep to each set, and you wouldn't ever get it right.
@@ahmarammar4024 I don't think that's a reason to not grow it. If training volume and tension is enough (even if variable) you can still get stronger and grow. I am sure ive a thicker neck than when I started 8 months ago. And I'm probably stronger on it too.
@RDD87z But bro, where is the progressive overload. You have to increase the weight with time, and sometimes, you might be going easier and sometimes harder it wouldn't create enough stimulus to build strength and muscle. I mean, you wouldn't get that much benefit from using your hands rather than adding resistance via weights or simply gravity. If you're seeing the results, then good for you, but I wouldn't do that.
Neck training is super important..but not this One...because is isolanted and Linear..so its ONLY good for estétics..not for performance..i like MuayThai..but long term this maby Will make cervical Issues.. wrestling neck training i think is more efective
In my opinion
no you are totally wrong, this is way safer then wrestling neck training
lol, let me try this 350$ thing before spending a normal 5000$
Yeah that podcast clip was annoying. Still wanna get a thick ass boxer neck though.
Your low back and neck should be strengthend by reseistibg motion and holding it in a neutral posture not doing something like crunches. Its scientifically proven crunches are bad for the spine.
It looks cool, but I'm afraid of becoming too attractive.
Haha an unfortunate side effect
Brother please for your teeth
This is idiotic
This can't be good for your teeth.
Your teeth are alot stronger than you think....
Sure it can. A lot of old time strongmen did even more severe teeth lifting stunts and didn't have problems
Actually it is good for your teeth, everyone should do this even if they aren’t trying to make their neck stronger
Bro comments on bro science 😂
dont workout ur neck lol
Pencil neck
